I have one, yea they really do work very well for 0-60 and 1/4 times and speeds, you just have to be a little careful when using them. They have to mounted on the windsheild level, you need to do the readings on a fairly level surface, and you have to make sure to zero it out properly before going. As for the lateral G function, it's pretty much useless, too much stuff throws it off.

I can attest to the lateral G thing being off...

A guy I know was autocrossing in his Trans Am and it said he pulled like 1.03 or 1.something lateral G's. He had Goodyear Eagle GSC's on it I think. Even with some good tires, I doubt any ls1 f-body would pull over .95 lateral g's.

Yea that would be fine, where are you going to do it though? It needs to be level and somewhere that you can stop and get everything set right before taking off, i.e. not at an intersection or something.

Gtech pro is always off about 5mph on the 1/4 mile reading (to high). If you want something accurate that doesnt have to be completly level and does 0-60, 60 feet, 1/8 mile, 1/4 and all the G's then check this out...

It puts the gtech to shame

G-Tech isn't high by 5mph it's just that it reads your speed differently than at a drag strip. At a drag strip the speed you get is an average of your speed over the last several feet of the track where G-Tech gives the speed you are actually going when you hit a 1/4 mile which is always about 5mph higher than the averaged speed you would get at the strip. Oh yea, and another feature of the G-Tech (and the Tazzo) that doesn't work worth a crap is the horsepower feature. It depends too much on the weight of the car and it's kind of impossible to input the weight accurate enough to get it right.

this is just way to complicated!

Yes i know the reasoning behind why it reads the mph 3-5 to high. The fact is that I could really give a sh!t about how the gtech uses an average...it doesnt compare to 1/4 track speeds. I agree the logic they use is actually more right but people visit the track, not go out and put there gtechs on the windshield for record keeping and such. I mean if we all used gtechs then I would laugh at tracks saying there speed is always 5mph to slow! Maybe your catching what im saying. If you want to tell someone how fast you run in the 1/4 then you better tell them the "standard"...which is track times. If you tell them a gtech time and dont actually tell them you used a gtech there either going to think your BSing them or just plain stupid.
And what my friend had to do with the HP read-out was when he went to the dyno he kept adding weight till the hp of the gtech matched that of the dyno and everytime he bolted something new on and took it back to the dyno his numbers were always within +1,-1 HP. See on his car he had to tell the gtech his car weighed alot more than it really did. As long as you put in a weight no matter if it matches your car or not and it gives you correct read-outs in HP then I wouldnt mess with putting your actual car weight in. Does that make any sense at all? Wish I could explain it better. Oh well....time to go to bed,

its good to compare a cars performance before and after... but other than that go to the strip (for 1/4mile) or borrow a setup from motor trend or something (if you MUST know your 0-60 )

There's nothing wrong with the way that the G-Tech measures 0-60, it's just that the way it measures 1/4 speed differs from the way a drag strip does it. Either way, as long as you're comparing G-tech readings to other G-tech readings there's no problem at all.

The G-tech on my car (the talon that I used to have) gave me a 14.7 with a trap of about 92mph. And I ran a 14.666 at 91.89mph at Commerce.

The G-tech can be accurate down to the hundreth or even the thousandth. It depends on how well it is zeroed and whether or not the car is sitting on level ground. Also the whole stretch must be perfectly level for the best results.

One more thing. Each car is going to react differently in the 1/4. Cars with DOHC and cars with a changing cam profile tend to increase the amount of acceleration after the 1/8 mile ( or around there). This will also cause the g-tech to vary from the actual time. On the same note torquey cars/AWD cars tend to have good 1/8 mile times and the rate if acceleration changes after the 1/8, also causing a slight variation.
