jameswade2002 08-24-2005, 11:27 PM okay, I'll admit it, I know there are lots of OS's out there, but I have always been a looser Windows dude. DOS was fast. Now its dead. So I just got this computer from a friend and it has Gentoo Linux on it. The screen is black and says "bacchus login:" Damnit it just keeps blinking and no mater what I type it just stairs back at me. What do I do? I really wanna make it so I can do a dual boot with Win XP or Gentoo, but for now, How do I get to some sort of command prompt where I can do something with it. Its got a faster video card and alot more RAM on it than my last computer, so you know what that means. if I can figure it out, I CAN FINALLY WATCH "CLUB JENNA". Damn I have waited a long time, help me. jdmfan13 08-25-2005, 10:22 AM Sounds like a typical login prompt. Check your keyboard? When all else fails... rtfm. You probably should dual-boot until you're use to Linux though. You might want to try to install it yourself... to get familiar with it. :o) jameswade2002 08-25-2005, 04:59 PM I found a big discussion board about it. I am told I can't dual boot. The harddrive has so many partitions I don't know what to do with it all. I might just buy another harddrive for windows. jdmfan13 08-26-2005, 12:29 PM or instead of buying another hard drive (depending on the size you have now)... just wipe it... install Windows, then install Gentoo... then dual-boot. you really only need 3 partitions to learn with... later on when you're more advanced... then be partition crazy :o) |
