SpartanTS 09-05-2007, 10:03 PM My fiance has been looking into getting a greyhound for quite some time now, and I'm almost ready to get one myself. Anyone here have any experience with these dogs? Thanks. 2ndGen.Rocket 09-05-2007, 10:13 PM The only people I've ever seen adopt Greyhounds are lesbians. I'm not joking. SpartanTS 09-05-2007, 11:02 PM I'm not sure whether to be disturbed by the fact that you've attempted to relate greyhounds to lesbians, or the fact that you may know enough lesbians with greyhounds in order for your statement to be signficant. Manntis 09-05-2007, 11:13 PM retired racing greyhounds are usually not good with children or small, furry pets. They're not usually that sociable around people and it can be hit or miss as to whether they're house trained. And never, ever, let them off-leash in an unenclosed area, like a park. Remember, they were used primarily for running and breeding. That said, they can be awesome pets - as long as you'll never have kids around them, don't mind teaching an old dog new tricks (which can be done), and will keep them leashed when you take them outside. Get one through a reputable adoption agency and you should be fine. rx-7_Z06 09-06-2007, 03:03 AM Its a huge PITA adopting a greyhound. My sister did it and at first it seemed that the greyhound got along great with their smaller dog, but after a while that changed and they had to send it back. 2ndGen.Rocket 09-06-2007, 11:04 AM I'm not sure whether to be disturbed by the fact that you've attempted to relate greyhounds to lesbians, or the fact that you may know enough lesbians with greyhounds in order for your statement to be signficant. I went to undergrad at Ithaca, a city that has a very large gay population. Adopting Greyhounds was a very common practice by lesbians there. I used to go to a massage therapist that was a lesbian, her and her girlfriend had about 5 greyhounds. It was so common in fact, that the lesbian/greyhound connection was a joke in the city. Terrh 09-06-2007, 12:29 PM Where the hell are you planning on putting a bus? and more importantly, WTF are you going to do with it? Manntis 09-06-2007, 02:22 PM Where the hell are you planning on putting a bus? The busses are MCI, aren't they? ;) SpartanTS 09-06-2007, 05:07 PM LOL @ the bus commentz... We don't plan on having kids anytime soon, but I'm sure we'll have 1 within the next 5-7 years. With that being said, I usually keep dogs until they croak, which would put the greyhound, if we get it, at about half life. My girl just has been in love with getting a greyhound. My grandma had one and poor thing died under the house and we didn't find it until she started to smell. It wasn't a racing hound tho', so it was a tad more social than than most greyhounds. preludedude 09-06-2007, 07:04 PM pets are overrated....they die before you and you cry.. cmon..havent we all learned that once already? :gay2: rtryb2200 09-06-2007, 07:48 PM I take my dog to the park everyday and rarely see any greyhounds, probably because the dog tracks they used to have in WI have all folded, to my knowledge. I know of a couple that has a retired one and it is a big baby, gets along fine with their kid that they had after the do. Like any breed of dog it all depends on the upbringing and how well they adapt to their new enviroment barneymcveigh 09-07-2007, 07:49 PM name it santas little helper and call it a day |
