#1 nukes

war over resources should be big in the 21st and 22nd

bird flu - more people die from regular flu then bird flu
ice age - polar shift baby
green house - we dont have enough oil to pollute ourselves to death
asteriods - who knows
chaos cloud - huh? is that a materia summon
super nova - sun is too small to go nova
aliens - someone call ellen ripley
Zero being banned - if that were so, the world would've ended multiple times. we must be in an infinite cycle of death and rebirth, then.

I dont think any of these will distroy the world, Just change it from what we know now.

Excluding the Super Nova.

There also is an off shoot of the big band theory that says we are still blowing out and at some point the universe will collapse back together.

But I like the chaos cloud one. It's like the langoliers except it just eats everything.

I think it's more accurate to say what will end the human race first. The Earth will continue merrily along its way long after we're gone.

Yes, just not most of the things you named.. he meant you should've phrased this "what is going to end the human race," not "what is going to end the world"

Well either or. If it's just the end of the human race the world might as well be gone.

Two things are for sure.

Nuclear Holocaust triggered by some douchebag dictator or terrorist group who's pissed off because women in the west vote and drive cars. I can appreciate their pain, but I cannot justify killing everyone else because of it.

Triggered by them yes.

But its the fact that everyone will join in on nuclear warfare.

With the nuclear capability of the world today. We can make the plant unlivable in 48 hours.

Its easy to think of a single event/senario that would trigger all of us to fight each other with maximum firepower.

Environment or Nukes...it will be man's fault either way.

how would it be man's fault if, say, an ice age came and destroyed the human race?

If you haven't been paying attention to any of the new environmental studies and whatnot, the planet is -long- overdue for the next ice age. If anything, our polution could possibly be holding that ice age off. Though, thats another thing. If Global Warming is such an issue, why are the glaciers around here growing? and why do we now have new glaciers that weren't here 20 or 30 years before?

And by glacier I simply mean snowfields that haven't completely melted in the last two or three years.

Really, I never heard that.
since our sun isn't big enough to go nova, it will expand into a red giant. and then possibly colapse into itself to form a dwarf star.

We had a mini ice age in the 1300's I think.

The history channel has been doing some good shows on the Dark Age.

I guess it killed allot of people, like the Vikings.

We would be able to handle it a little better today but not by much.

I would welcome it so long as fuel was available since it would mean I could ride the snowmobiles more.

I don't really see an ice age being that big of a problem, so long as they could figure out a way to grow enough crops inside of heated buildings. Could probably figure out some new form of hydroponics, get all the pot heads out there to help the gov't figure it all out.

the sun will actually expand into a red giant late in its life. the diamater of the sun will expand to such a point as to engulf the earth.

I have looked up some stuff on that. The earth is going to have a pretty violent end looks like.

The Future of the Sun

We now (late 20th century) believe that the Sun and its planets formed about 4.6 billion years ago out of a huge cloud of swirling gas. For practically all of that time, the Sun has been fairly stable while it has burnt hydrogen. For the next 5 billion years so, our Sun will keep on burning hydrogen, and will have a fairly boring youth. Then, as it uses up the hydrogen at its centre, and starts to burn helium, it will have some exciting changes.

These changes will happen over just a few hundred million years. Our Sun will get hundreds of times bigger and brighter. It will puff off its outer layers of matter through the solar system and into the space between the stars. Some of the inner planets will vanish, swallowed up by the expanding Sun. The Sun should keep on expanding until it gets to around the orbit of Earth. On Earth, the oceans of water will vaporise , and be replaced by oceans of molten rock. Our home may or may not survive. But if it does survive, it will have a strange glassy surface, as the molten rock cools down. All the outer planets should survive.

Then, the Sun will shrink down into a much smaller and denser star - about half the size of the Earth. It will start off as a white dwarf, and then gradually change colour into a red dwarf as it gets colder. The future solar system will be unrecognisable to us of today. Two or three of the planets will be gone, and the surviving planets will freeze in a perpetual darkness, spinning around a dull and shrunken star, barely glowing.
