rodney87 07-14-2007, 12:59 AM I'm gonna be on vacation the forth week of august and I'm gonna be going from San Diego to Portland. I've got 5 days to make my way up there and I was looking for someone local along the way to give me some pointers, where to eat, places to see etc. I've already been told its a long ass drive, I'm aware of that, and I've been told the higyway along the coast is beautiful. But I've been on an island my whole life, the last thing I need to see is more fucking water. I'm looking at google maps and I'm wanting to bypass Los Angeles and San Fancisco because of traffic and the fact that I'm a small town boy, dont know if I could handle that :blah: vrooom305 07-14-2007, 03:56 AM just take I-5 and drive.... Say No To Pistons 07-14-2007, 08:10 AM Bring lots of wet naps... czarofzar 07-14-2007, 09:34 AM Veer off to the town of Julian. A wine country in California. We are going through there today. SpartanTS 07-15-2007, 08:38 AM Take the 99 if you'd like to see the mountains instead of the water. I use to live out there about 10 years ago. B-eau-ti-FUL. 95whitepep 07-15-2007, 11:32 AM Veer off to the town of Julian. A wine country in California. We are going through there today. Stop in NAPA valley and have a few drinks. Check out Muir Woods 12 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge....try to find some ewoks. Avoid Oakland at all costs. If you were coming in from the other side of Portland via Idaho, I would have a few more but anyway. rodney87 07-15-2007, 08:13 PM Thanks for the tips, I'll probbly end up winging it for the most part. Question though, whats the general attitude like over there? Everyone from the mainland I meet over here says the same thing "wow, everyone's so nice over here!". Am I gonna get a slap if I stop and ask someone for directions to a hotel or a good place to eat? Say No To Pistons 07-15-2007, 08:32 PM No, just make sure you don't stop in the ghetto (or talk to and/or pick up hitch hikers). barneymcveigh 07-16-2007, 04:47 PM when your north of los angelas and getting out of the mountains take the 99 in stead of I-5 . after the grape vine there aint shit on the 5 , at least on the 99 youll have plenty of options for food and gas. and as far as food things to do there really aint nothing worth stopping for untill you get to northern california/ oregon. Plus you dont want to spend too much time in the central valley what with the 100+ degree heat and beautiful brown skies. Zero 07-16-2007, 08:22 PM I never stop when road-tripping... my goal is always to beat mapquest time WITH having to stop for gas. Need food and/or use the bathroom? If I don't need gas, you're waiting. Animal 07-16-2007, 10:43 PM I never stop when road-tripping... my goal is always to beat mapquest time WITH having to stop for gas. Diarrhea is an exception though, I'll stop to poop if it's urgent even if I don't need gasoline. rodney87 07-16-2007, 10:58 PM I never stop when road-tripping... my goal is always to beat mapquest time WITH having to stop for gas.
