DeRFmAn 04-25-2007, 07:26 PM I've been thinking of getting a bike for awhile now. I was wondering what is a good bike to begin on. I want it sporty but i don't wanna kill myself just yet. I know how to ride a little my buddy let me use his dirtbike to learn but i'm nowhere near a regular rider. Pics of the bikes would be cool too, if not i can just do a google image search. Thanks ahead of time. $100T2 04-25-2007, 07:43 PM Kawasaki ZZR 600. :) DeRFmAn 04-25-2007, 07:50 PM Yeah, I saw that bike in the other thread it looks good. Not sure if i want something new or slightly used though. DeRFmAn 04-25-2007, 08:16 PM yes i know all that i've already done some research. not to mention i've helped out a friend of a friend after he laid his bike down being a moron. I'm not looking to be the fastest or have the "coolest" bike I just want something fun, good looking and.....well thats basically it. Terrh 04-25-2007, 10:13 PM ninja 250 or 500 is your tool to learning quickly. my first bike was a ninja 500, I loved it. Cheap new, cheaper used, dead nuts reliable, good on gas, etc. Steel 04-26-2007, 01:23 AM ninja 500, suzuki GS500, suzuki SV650, honda 599. All good starter bikes. BUt mark is right, you gotta be able to control your wrist more than anything. Fatmikey916 04-26-2007, 01:36 AM i started with my cbr600rr but i rode alot of dirt before i got it. Savington 04-26-2007, 01:45 AM Kawasaki ZX-10 160 rwhp run with the big dogs...or stay on the porch You are so fucking dumb. rtryb2200 04-26-2007, 06:23 AM I had a FZR 600 to start with, Just be smart and take the class! Tofuball 04-26-2007, 06:36 AM I recommend getting anything old and super cheep that you won't feel too bad if you drop it :P Steel 04-26-2007, 09:02 AM ^ yeah that too. Because you will drop it. Steel 04-26-2007, 12:04 PM Faster to hell that is. 2ndGen.Rocket 04-26-2007, 12:47 PM Kawasaki ZX-10 160 rwhp run with the big dogs...or stay on the porch http://www.laist.com/attachments/tony/bigdogs.jpg Way to quote a t-shirt from the 90's. Maybe we can get some Big Johnson, Co-ed Naked, and No Fear quotes in here as well: "Lead, follow, or get out of the way" "I'm the bus driver, because I take people to school" "I eat weaklings like you for breakfast" If anyone ever said "run with the big dogs or stay on the porch" to me with a straight face, I don't know if I would die from laughter, pee on them, or shuffle them off to the special bus. 2ndGen.Rocket 04-26-2007, 01:04 PM No shit, I'm laughing at the fact that you actually said "run with the big dogs or get off the porch". The last guy that said that was wearing Zubaz pants and lifting weights in his front yard, all while not getting laid because he was a meathead douchebag. DeRFmAn 04-26-2007, 01:13 PM thanks for the input guys, i'm actually looking at the sv650 its got some good reviews and it looks pretty good too. Like i said i can ride a little bit. I've been on a ninja 250 a few times but just not a regular thing. Steel 04-26-2007, 02:25 PM You'll get bored with a 250 by the end of the summer. That's why i recommend something a little bigger, you can keep it around for a bit, and then upgrade in a couple years (sell it to your friend or soemthing and him him/her into riding) The SV650 is a really good bike for the price, perfect for beginners. ITs got a nice flat torque curve making it predictable, and good handling, and not way too powerful like a lot of the 600's are now, because its a v-twin (therefore it sounds lot cooler too). If you really end up <3ing the 650, you can upgrade to the SV1000 if you want more nut. That's the bike i'll be buying in a couple weeks. It'd be cool if they came out with an SV1200 or something. YEah. 2ndGen.Rocket 04-26-2007, 02:30 PM get a job, asshole it was a joke I have a job, a better one than you if I recall correctly. ComradeGiant 04-26-2007, 03:32 PM Are you two secretly married? Because thats what you act like. I think YZF has a secret homosexual polygamy ring going on. DeRFmAn 04-26-2007, 05:10 PM seriously, take the bickering to a different thread pls. Fatmikey916 04-26-2007, 06:23 PM my firend has a sv650s and i have ridden it a couple of times. really good bike to start on. comfortable, easy to ride, good amount of torque. it would be a good choice 2ndGen.Rocket 04-26-2007, 06:58 PM liar haha, ok. wotnartd 04-26-2007, 07:37 PM I'm looking at getting something quick, but not insanely fast. 0-85 mph is all I'll ever really need to use. 85-180 is for the fun days. That being said, I'm looking at a used 600 CBR. Steel 04-26-2007, 08:21 PM or like was suggested, the SV650 which has oodles of torque, but only aobut 70 horsepower instead of 160 like a 4 bangin literbike. Theres a reason why they are insanely popular starter bikes. DeRFmAn 04-26-2007, 09:31 PM yeah i think i'm gonna go for the sv650 its got looks and seems to be the best option. I don't wanna go too low b/c i would get bored with absolutely no power. Anyway thanks for all the info guys. 2ndGen.Rocket 04-27-2007, 12:32 AM Dude in all honesty, if you've only ridden a dirtbike a couple of times, hopping right on a 600+cc streetbike is not a great idea. I am not questioning your skills, intelligence or responsibility. I am just telling you that a streetbike is a completely different animal than a dirtbike. Even if you were a seasoned dirtbike rider, there is still an enormous difference between the two. If you have limited riding experience period on any sort of bike, get a Ninja 250 and learn how a street bike handles, especially in traffic. Despite what people say about a 600's lack of low end power, trust me you will still be overwhelmed by the capability of these bikes. In my honest opinion, a modern 600 is way too much bike for an inexperienced rider. I STILL ride a 600, and I rode dirtbikes for years growing up, and have ridden street bikes for about 5 years. To this day, I can honestly say that I have not ridden my CBR to its full potential. Modern 600's have most of their power at the top end, yes. However most will still keep up with litre bikes to 90mph, and at that speed and over an inexperienced rider is extremely vulnerable. Trust me, spend a little bit of cash on a Ninja 250 and learn how it handles, and how to ride on the road with traffic. You will outgrow it quickly yes, but they hold their resale value fairly well and you will be able to get rid of it and move up quickly. It is worth in the long run, I promise. Savington 04-27-2007, 01:01 AM the absolute BEST way to learn to ride a motorcycle (and this is straight from the guys who race professionally) is to spend a year or two on a 250 two stroke, or 400 four stroke on the track in novice racing class...NOT on the street....that way you make the blunders in a controlled environment and learn to master the bike without killing yourself or someone else and it goes without saying if you've never spent time on a bike at all, start with MX edit: the SV does make a good track bike, just about anything with decent chassis rigidity and suspension geometry/components can be a blast on the track First you say a literbike for a new guy is the only way to go, and anyone else is a little pussy, and now you say that the best way is to learn on a 400cc 4-stroke? Make up your fucking mind. Savington 04-27-2007, 01:03 AM Dude in all honesty, if you've only ridden a dirtbike a couple of times, hopping right on a 600+cc streetbike is not a great idea. The way to learn is on a small bike. Steel 04-27-2007, 01:41 PM Dude in all honesty, if you've only ridden a dirtbike a couple of times, hopping right on a 600+cc streetbike is not a great idea. 650cc v-twin != 600cc 4 banger. MY buddies new CBR 600RR makes more hp than my 1000cc v-twin! Savington 04-27-2007, 03:23 PM no, I never said a literbike is the "only way to go" for a noob Kawasaki ZX-10 160 rwhp run with the big dogs...or stay on the porch furthermore, back then literbikes like the GSXR1100 only had about 100 hp to the wheel, if that Kawasaki ZX-10 160 rwhp run with the big dogs...or stay on the porch Shitheel. DeRFmAn 05-05-2007, 11:53 AM as far a control goes i know i wont be hot doggin and what not. Its just how I am. I just like the feeling and mileage. Still gonna drive the 7 a lot, just want something to change up the pace a little. I'm actually lookin at that Kawa that $100T2 was talking about. It is a nice bike. From the reviews I've read its a good all around bike. Savington 05-05-2007, 04:19 PM Talked to my buddy last night who has an SV650. He agreed with the idea that it's the best starter bike out there. Steel 05-05-2007, 05:05 PM woops. |
