I got lucky and was offered some gravy work this winter break, so what does a short sighted college kid do with extra money? Spend it of course. :)

Here is a system made with a Core 2 Duo E6400, 7950GT / 256, 2GB PC533 ram, and my old FX5500 on an Asus motherboard. I just put it together and it's f'ing quick! Runs X plane about 6x faster than my old PIV 3.0HT system did.

The motherboard is middle of the road (945G chipset) and does not support DDR 800.

I've started experimenting with the FSB frequency and it seems to handle 315 MhZ vs. 266 stock. This puts the ram at DDR 788 and CPU cores at just over 2.5 GhZ; I won't know how good this is until I get a legit XP COA and get the full version of FSX installed, and a few more monitors. :)

Airline jets are pretty fun when you learn how to deal with the speed and mass.
