80mph in a 55mph zone
9:09AM
Ugh.
$220 & 4 points under NJ 4-99.
The officer wrote down the wrong statute on the ticket. He wrote 4-98 which is 1-14 mph over the limit. 4-99 is the one for 15-25 over the limit, iirc. I also have no prior speeding tickets... ever. I am twenty five years old.
I'm going to go talk to the prosecutor and try to plead down. Hopefully I can plead down to no points and just pay a hefty fine.
I'm sure some of you have some experience fighting tickets. Any advice?
You're studying criminal law right?
BATMAN 01-26-2006, 02:16 PM Why don't u prescribe to a pre-paid legal service?
I do.
Think of it as legal insurance.
I've used mines to get tickets dismissed without even showing up in court.
It's cheaper than the price of the ticket, the insurance increase, and points on ur record.
If ur interested email me and I'll give u the 411:

I don't think ppl services apply to prior tickets. I joined one a couple of years ago and the said they couldn't help with the tickets I got prior to joining.

+1
Interestingly enough, that's also where I got into my 130 MPH run with a G35 and a 350Z Track on the way to NY on the 2nd of this month.... :D
Mmmmmm, 4 lanes....
Anywho, time to put those skills to use and talk your ass off Poopz.... Chances are they'll probably just slap you on the wrist and give you a PBJ, since just about everyone knows that place isn't the best for keeping to the speed limit....
REALLY helps that you don't have a record and are learning law, too... Might want to stress those two points....

PBJ??? personal blow job?
DarkAngelKamui 01-26-2006, 05:50 PM Silly pervert, "PBJ" is for the law.....
"Probation Before Judgement"...
It's usually given to first time offenders as a means to get them to keep their nose clean... It works like this:
Judge gives you a 1 year probation period where you CANNOT gain another moving violation under any circumstances.... If you can manage to keep outta the Law's way, the charges get dropped and everybody's happy...
But, if you are found guilty on another moving violation, not only do you get the full consequences of the current ticket you recieved, but you also recieve the points and fines from the previous ticket... Court gets paid, you get assraped...
Supper 01-26-2006, 10:06 PM They do that on DWI/DUI/whatever the fuck your state calls it, here in Wyo. A guy I work with got pulled over drunk as fuck, was given a 6 month probationary period to stay sober, he did it and it never even went on his record.
Carbine 556 01-26-2006, 11:59 PM PBJ is called deferred judification here in texas
Animal 01-27-2006, 12:36 AM Here in colorado if you drink&drive you get a breathalyzer installed in your car... buddy of mine works at safelite and installs them. Have to breathe into it to start the car, then 10mins or so after you start driving, then every hour or so after that. Computer logs all the data, have to bring it in and have it docked every month.
Really shitty thing is they charge you for the breathalyzer, installation, time, *everything*.

exactly! that's why i think this is such bullshit. i just had the bad luck of cutting over to the right lane in preparation of the ez-pass toll lanes, and i happened to pass an unmarked police car on the right instead of the left... lame.
i'm definitely going to try and talk to the prosecutor. PBJ... sounds interesting. i'll try to talk my way out of it if i can, but my buddies who've been to the prosecutor say you don't get much of a chance to actually talk.
DarkAngelKamui 01-27-2006, 09:44 AM I think you'll get a shot, since most prosecutors aren't really trying to break their feet off in new offender's asses (unless they had a bad day or something...)
Trust me, I've been in and out of the courtroom quite a few times, and I only have 1 ticket to show for it all... And that was for driving without registration that I agreed to take the fall for after talking to the State's Attorney and cutting a deal... I'm pretty sure I have the system all worked out, and I've never had to hire a lawyer... :D

"When you finally appear in court, it will probably be a district court set aside specifically for traffic violations. Before the judge begins hearing traffic cases, he or she usually gives a short five minute speal about how they are going to try the cases appearing before the court on that day.
This is where you can size up the judge and determine how your case will fall. If you have a clean driving record, more than likely you will be given PBJ. PBJ doesn't stand for Peanut Butter and Jelly, it stands for Probation Before Judgement. What this means is that the court feels there is enough evidence to convict you but will hold a verdict until the end of the probationary period. If you reach the end of the probationary period without any similar violations, a verdict of not guilty will be entered and no points will appear on your driving record. The term of the probationary period is at the discretion of the judge. If no term is mentioned in court, it is usually until you pay the fine and court costs. So you are on probation from the time you leave the courtroom until you walk over to the cashier and pay the fine. If a term is specified, it is usually six months or one year.
During the short speech, the judge will explain how cases will be handled. For example, a judge may say that if you have a clean driving record for the past 3 years and were traveling at less than 20 MPH over the posted speed limit, PBJ will be granted. "
aznpoopy 01-27-2006, 09:51 AM ah i see... if the prosecutor cuts me a deal, i still have to go into the courtroom? scary. lol.
on that note i hope MD and NJ courts are similar. i don't mind the fine... i'm just really hoping to get no points.
