More than likely just a .480 Ruger, .475 Linebaugh, or possibly a .45-70... and a lousy shooter.

No one could shoot a pistol chambered for a bare minimum "elephant gun round" like the .375 H&H Magnum, which generates a little over 48 ft-lbs. of recoil energy. For comparison, the .30-06 Springfield, which most people would agree kicks fairly hard, only generates about 20.5 ft-lbs. of recoil.

edit: I never knew people actually considered .45-70 Gov't an "elephant gun"They don't. At least not anyone with any intelligence.

its generally known in the hunting community as a "silhouette gun" and on of the best elk rifles. It's generally known in my area as a "pumpkin pusher". Slow moving and not much good over 100-150 yards.

I prefer the almighty .378 Weatherby Mag, the king of flat shooting (factory round) big bores in my book....but I'll stick to a rifle :)
might want to look into the new Lapua magnums for the new "king of flat shooting" ;)

this is my next purchase... but i can't decide wether to go with the barrel pictured or the hunter style heavy 10.5 inch barrel

here next to a 44 mag 4.5" barrel

It doesn't have the outrageous powderload of a "big game" rifle... but then again.... I don't plan on shooting elephants with it!!!!!! Just White tailed deer and the occasional homo-Sapien-sapiens that gets in my way.

kicks like an absolute muthaA bit over twice the recoil of a .375 H&H, which most people wouldn't enjoy shooting.

How did your little body handle it? You weight what, 160 lbs.?

jimlab
01-02-2006, 01:10 AM
I was 5'11" and about 190 in college, basically same as now....I think your tape measure is faulty... or are you standing in a hole in this picture?

http://www.theforumlounge.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1508&stc=1&d=1136185574

what is your height and weight, mr. "little body"??Bigger than you, little man. :D

how ironicThat you'd show up here and immediately start preaching in the Christian forum, not for a minute aware of how hilarious we all find your antics and how utterly predictable that was? You're right, that is what I'd call ironic. :bigthumb:

jimlab

bs Jim, I've seen your picIs this the picture of "me" you've seen? Wrong Jim, wrong college, wrong coast. Work on your researching skills.

http://www.andrew.cmu.edu/user/jamess3/JimLab.JPG

you're 5'8" or 5'9" on a good day, maybe 175-180 lbsI don't remember meeting you during my freshman year of high school, but anything's possible...

fact is I'm biggerI guess the bike was superimposed? That gas tank is as big as your torso.

AND stronger than you, by a long shot...That I doubt. I can pack an SBC iron engine block around without help.

why would I lie about such a thing, when people like Jim Swantko have met me in person and can attest to my height and weight??I'll be sure to ask Jim, but I've easily got you by at least 2" and 25+ lbs.

sheesh, at one point I thought you were a genuinely cool person, now I just think you're an ass with a global sized ago and a desperate need to spitefully belittle people...Sheesh, at one point I cared what you thought. No, wait a minute... I never cared what you thought.

BTW, at any time did it seem just a little too convenient to you that this forum has a "Christian" sub-forum? Why do you think that is?? :D

jimlab
01-02-2006, 05:21 PM
no that is not the pic I'm thinking of....who the heck is that geek, your brother?Dunno. Who's the little guy next to the bike trying desperately to look pumped? Joe Piscopo? :D

jimlab
01-02-2006, 08:27 PM
ok, whatever...my height and weight is legitJim says you might be that size, but also added that you're a tool regardless. :)

the pic of you I'm thinking of is like a car show or some gatheringYou mean the one where I'm standing behind the FC instead of on the curb/median where everyone else was standing?

http://www.theforumlounge.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=939&d=1122419505

Note the median behind the row of cars...

http://www.theforumlounge.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1510&stc=1&d=1136254905

Or were you perhaps referring to the one where I'm showing a friend the HUD display of my Z06 and my waist is almost level with the roof?

http://www.theforumlounge.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1511&stc=1&d=1136254905

Like I said, I've got you by at least 2" and 25+ lbs.

what does a SBC iron block weigh?190 lbs.

jimlab
01-02-2006, 09:52 PM
who cares how tall you are, Jim, ask me if I really give a shit...I don't have to. You wouldn't be trying to prove that you're bigger and stronger than I am if you didn't. :bigthumb:

and what is this second person crap?Jim Swantko. Did you already forget that you told me to ask him to verify your claims of ultimate badassdedness?

fact: I've shot a .460 WeatherbyFact: You yarded the trigger on one, possibly, but you don't own one and I doubt you fired it more than once. Your opinions on cartridges are therefore irrelevant, and your comments on the .378 Weatherby were only an attempt to impress... which I immediately recognized and which they completely failed to achieve.

and your comment about "little body" was unecessarySure, but it accomplished my goal. You're all riled up and I didn't break a single forum rule doing it. :bigthumb:

just more of your stupid ego pushing bullshit I've more than enough of....go jump off a cliffDid you ever wonder if I'd be "cooler" to you if you were just one of the guys and not a nutcase who can't keep from babbling about Jesus and the 12 Opossums every chance he gets?? Just curious... :D

BATMAN

my opinion on "catridges" is "irrelevant" because I don't OWN an elephant gun?No, your opinion on cartridges is irrelevant because you're just a poser.

I grew up with guns, my dad was a cop and we went hunting and target shooting just about every weekendGreat, good for you. So why all the babbling about the flat shooting .378 Weatherby and having shot a .460 Weatherby, big chief? Just randomly trying to impress a few people by reciting what you felt was pertinent information?

that's another $1000 bet I'd happily take: that I can out-shoot you with any handgunDoubtful. I've owned a couple dozen handguns and revolvers of various types and calibers and have countless hours of range time, as well as having shot deer and cougar with a .44 Mag.

next stupid comment?Dunno. Are you prepared to make another one so soon?

jimlab
01-03-2006, 11:05 PM
In my experience, the type of people who admire Weatherby cartridges are the same kind of people who think the Renesis is better than the 13B-REW because it has a 9,000 rpm redline instead of an 8,000 rpm redline...

jimlab
01-03-2006, 11:46 PM
Weatherby built a reputation on high velocity ammunition....overpriced? perhaps, but it still out-performed most factory rounds of it's timeOut-performed how? Higher velocity? Higher muzzle energy? Perhaps, but if two cartridges perform the same job adequately and one kicks 25% harder than the other and the shells cost twice as much, which one is the better cartridge?

You'll find that very seldom do professional hunters use the .458 Winchester Magnum or .460 Weatherby Magnum. Do you know why, all-knowing Christian Zealot? Unlikely.

Next.

a buddy of mine in Canada bear hunts all the time and does just fine with his .338
uh...

you do realize that .338 is a magnum round that was designed for "large and dangerous game" in the first place, right?

Now... if you would have said .308, it would have been a tad bit more impressive.

I know guys around here that hunt with nothing bigger then a .270.

Oh yeah, well my dad is bigger and can beat up all of your guy’s dads.

I don’t know anything about large caliber pistols past a 44 mag. I have shot some at the range but don’t know what they were. I think one was a 454 something. I don’t care for them at all I don’t really see the point. If a 44 won’t do it get a rifle.

Oh and it looks like you have more than 25 lbs on yz there jimbo. You look a little cubby to me. As for me I’m fatter and taller than both of you small fries.

Well you don't want to carry allot of cash in an airport.

My dad was going to Georgia to buy some cattle. I ask him to drop me off at the airport in Atlanta. He wanted to go out to the gate so we were going through the metal detectors and he got stopped. Apparently large amounts of money will set off a metal detector. So he got taken off to the side and given a "time out". If I remember right he had 12 or 15 thousand at the time. Farmers usually won't take a check for their cows. They let him off pretty easy. I guess the fact he took up 4 parking places with his truck and was dressed to work, convinced the supervisor he was telling the truth

I saw one of those S&W 500s yesterday and at the same gun shop they have another .50 6 shooter, too. I think it was something like a BNR Beowulf or something like that?

Anyways, yesterday was my first time shooting a pistol, too. My dad bought my brother a Ruger MarkIII .22 for his 22nd birthday and my brother bought himself a .40 Taurus.

The .22 felt really good shooting wise, but I think I like the way the Taurus fit my hand better. That Taurus is just too powerful for me, though. I'm 6'2" and 150lbs; so, it's kind of hard to control a .40. Every single time I pulled the trigger, my left hand would slip off of my right hand. It wouldn't go off by a lot, but still, it's enough to seem a little unnerving. That .40 is so fucking lound, too.

I think my dad is about to buy another Ruger, too. The one he is looking at looks a lot like the German Luger; so, I think he really, really wants it. He also wants a pistol grip shot gun, too... For... whatever reason....

I have a buddy who is about to buy a .45, too. I'd like to shoot it to see the difference between the .40 and the .45, as well.
