I'm thinking about getting the dual pod on top of the dash.

My mods are in my signature.

Since it's a supercharged car and the boost and A/F is fixed, do people even bother with boost and A/F gauges as if it were a turbo'd car? Or even an intake temp gauge?

What options do I have that will match my factory red instrument gauge look (for a nore factory "look")? I see Oil and volt meters. Any other options?

Are there digital gauges that have an "all-in-one" feature that allows me to toggle between, for example, oil, boost, temps, etc.?

And finally what gauages do you like and dislike?

I'm currently using a mixture of the older Defi gauges, and Greddy gauges.

They both glow amber when the running lights are on.

I don't have much (any) experience with superchargers, though I would say that still having a WBO2 could/would be useful in detecting any sort of lean condition (in the case of sticking injectors).

Oil temp is def a must if you plan on doing any serious beating on your goat.

TBH I would guess you could directly apply your knowledge from owning the 7 to your goat wrt gauges. The only one you really wouldn't need to worry about is the boost gauge, for obvious reasons.

IIRC HKS makes a hud gauge/screen/imput thing which can be used to monitor many different values. You may want to look into that.

My $.02

I have a mixture of autometer and westach gauges. Both pretty good although the westachs LOOK cheaper

Yes

No

Lots of gauges let you pick, personally I like VDO (accurate/cheap) - those you just put a cover over the light - I had them red to match the RX-7.

Yes

If I had to pick three, AFR, Vac/Boost, EGT

I think I should also add that there is no point to getting extra gauges unless you've found yourself thinking "I need to know X about my car"

If you're tuning your car, running a car that frequently has issues, or running a modified car that you want to keep your eye on the map/functionality, then the gauges I named in the previous post are for you. If you just want gauges for the sake of having gauges, AFR and Vac/Boost are still the way to go, as they're the flashiest and move the most while still being useful for modifying driving habits for peak MPG. :P

if you are running a SC car with set boost and AF then I would run an oil pressure oil temp and water temp. I have defi red racer boost, oil pressure, oil temp and an AEM urgo A/F guages for my car.

The money spent on an oil temp gauge is probably better spent on an oil cooler ;)

What do you think?

AFR and EGT might make the most sense.

My boost is fix at a whooping 5psi

Just get the EGT... narrow band AFR gauges aren't worth much anyway. I'd personally rather know my oil pressure & or temp.

yeah it wouldn't be a bad idea at all but I don't have any room with my current setup.:blah:

EGT isn't a bad idea but I would really get an oil pressure guage, loss of oil pressure is the quickest way to kill an engine.

When I said AFR I was implying wideband.

Narrowband does have its uses, you can still tell if you're running rich, lean, (Helps you interperate EGT readings or engine problems) or in closed loop or open loop (Good for learning to drive for peak MPG)

TechEdge has widebands em cheap - check them out at wbo2.com

another thing is depending on what ECU you have it is or is not worth it.
Peak MPG is boring:bigthumb:

People don't notice gauges so quickly, that's why a lot of cars have low oil pressure lights instead of gauges, it's more of a on/off thing.

I do like that the RX-7 has the oil pressure gauge, and they are nice to have, esp if you want to see how much the new brand of oil has affected idle pressure.

I disagree. In Clarkson's words, "If everyone was driving for peak MPG, there would never be any accidents."

This is a very good point!

that's something to think about too, I'm assuming you are using the same weight oil.

My GTO already has a digital average and real time MPG reader.

So EGT and Oil temp gauges the way to go?

Are most of these require a hook up to the car's ECU or they have their seperate enclosed system for readings?

Tofuball

EGT you just weld up a thermocouple to the exhaust ($16-$50, sometimes comes with the gauge)

Oil pressure/temp you drill a hole in the proper oil passageway or get a T fitting for the oil coolant line - for the threaded sensor (usually included)

svaillan

yeah, EGT is just down to your exhaust and should be easy to install, oil temp can be an oil line with a t fitting.....(I copy tofu because he is right).

OK.... I finally pulled the triggered and ordered the dual gauge pod.

I'll be ordering the organic LED gauges and post pics.........

u guys want to do a duplicate and sell to other GTO owners?

I'm sure we could. Not sure if there's a market for it though.
