shows you I'm still clueless about the small towns in NC, where is Rocky Mount? :)

I jsut looked it up now . . . http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&client=firefox-a&channel=s&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&hs=mhD&ei=_5muScLXDITT-Abq_rTQBg&resnum=1&q=Rocky+Mount,+NC&safe=active&um=1&ie=UTF-8&split=0&gl=us&ei=AJquSZeqOIXK-AayscXPBg&sa=X&oi=geocode_result&resnum=1&ct=image

Only 3.5 hours from Charlotte via car! Rt 85S => Rt 40W => Rt 64W. Sounds like an epic waste of your time to me :P

Sure, I'll have it in my back yard if I have to. I'll get some contractor plastic and stick a hose at the top. That'll be a slip and slide. I have a great hill for it. Hey, if I position it right, after a fun high-speed ride to the bottom, one would end up in my septic tank .

Not unless you bring it.

So, here I am in Rocky Mount, NC. I was in Dunn, NC. It's fun here, no one has any basements because it's just one giant swamp. I can talk about guns and strangers will happily join in the conversation instead of backing away fearfully like in MD.

The gun shops around here aggravate me, because their prices are much lower, but they wont sell to me because they don't understand MD law. (Even though it is perfectly legal to sell long guns to me) We even called ahead and they said they would sell to me, and then changed their mind when I picked out a gun I wanted.

Wal-Mart will sell to me tho, but that doesn't do me a whole world of good (though they have a Mossburg 500 for $207)

I'm only here for one more day, so if any NC people want to say hi (Or drive me home, I could use a ride . . .

But you can ship them to yourself.

I just got my second AK-47 sent in from Pennsylvania. Needs a trigger axis pin. Right now, a galvanized roofing nail serves the purpose.

How much did you pay for the AK and what year/make/condition is it?

Any of you guys interested in a "reutger" (SP?) equivalent of an ak-47? My friend took it on trade... looking to sell it...

How much did you pay for the AK and what year/make/condition is it?

First AK47, purchased at a gun show:
US remanned (InterOrdinance) Romanian receiver, has bayonet lug, threaded barrel with slant cut muzzle brake. Black polymer Tapco furniture. One "Master Molder" 30rd polymer magazine. (Thing loads like butter. Never again will I buy metal mags.)
$640 out the door. (Less 5% sales tax and $8 Background check. Sticker price $599.)

Second AK47, purchased off of another forum member:
Original Romanian WASR-10/63, accepts 30rd magazines. Dragunov style stock and original buttstock included. Two 30 round magazines included. Problem - Missing trigger axis pin, galvanized roofing nail used in its place. Replacement on order soon. Wood in ok shape, according to seller.
$400 shipped (Plus my gun shop's $40 FFL transfer fee.)

I'll pick it up this evening and write what the actual condition is. It looked pretty decent in the pics I was sent and shot well in the youtube video I was sent.

So I bought a gun at wal-mart.

That was fun.

I filled out the form and it asked the state where I was born, so I wrote "Washington D.C."

The guy working the gun counter said "No, you need to write your STATE"

Me: I said "D.C. Is a state, thats where I was born"

Him: "NO! You need the _STATE_"

Me: "D.C. is the capitol of this country. You know where the white house is?"

Him: "The white house is in VA"

Me: * mouth open, speechless *

Eventually he was convinced to call NICS and just say "D.C." and see what they said.

Later in the process they needed ID and my divers license doesn't have my current address on it - so I used my C&R.

Quote from the manager: "Department of the Treasury . . . do we accept that?"

Sad thing is, this is the second time I've dealt with that DC\state argument (first time was over the phone with an insurgence agency"

So my Amtrak trip down was fine, everything went smoothly, it was slightly late, but whatever, this isn't Germany.

The trip back was fun - because the Palmetto train doesn't stop at the station, it just blows through, I have to take a bus from the station to the next station that the Palmetto train stops on, Richmond VA - 2 hours north.

I got to the station 40 minutes early - got my tickets and came out to see two business pulling away - yes, those were the business I needed, leaving a half hour early. I told the station manager and he apologized profusely and called a cab.

The cab hurtled down 95 with such drunken fever I thought I was going to die. Two hours later the fare came to $280. My combined ticket price for bus + train was $42. Amtrak could have saved a buck or two by having the bus leave on time instead of paying for that cab . . . Once the horror show of the ride ended I kissed the pavement and hopped on the Palmetto for an uneventful ride home.

^^ (Two posts up)

This is because you bought a gun a Wal*Mart... In MARYLAND.
Everyone knows that Wal*Mart is the bottom of the low... But you bought it in a MD Wal*Mart.

That's like buying cheap sushi at a truck stop in Nebraska.

They already hire rejects at Wal*Mart... I hate to see who failed out of MD Public Schools.

^ (One Post Up)

Dude. You're in the back of cab, most likely a Fleet duty Crown Vic... Those things have an optional fire supression system that's designed to survive a hit from a "Taurus sized vehicle at 75 MPH" according to the CVPI distribution pamphlet. I'd say the trunk and under carriage around the rear axle (Where the suppression system lives) is pretty well reinforced... I've had to drill holes through there and burned up the shop's DeWalt drill doing it.

When I'm in the back of a car with an unknown or potentially dangerous driver, I do what drunks do to survive car wrecks that normally kill people. I go limp; Take a nap and enjoy the ride. Wake up and crawl out the window of the smoldering wreck. :bigthumb:

DC is a federal district, not a state nor is it located in a particular state, right? Either way, I can understand the logistical nightmare you must have to go through.

Not a logistical nightmare - only ever had a problem with it twice in my whole life.

are you getting reimbursed for the $280?

They didn't charge me, they charged Amtrak
