Tofuball 01-18-2009, 06:07 PM Well, I have an ancient hammer drill, it's a Skil 6850, and the collet is busted. I found another one on a british site, and they want a mint for it and to ship it, way more then an ordinary collet. Q: Anyone have any idea what other brand's of collet fit? Or where I can find a replacement collet? czarofzar 01-18-2009, 06:30 PM try shopping at those side road fairs for old tools. chances are you'll find something close enough to grind down so it can fit. Are you using it for making holes to place re-bar in cement? or anchors? what is so broke about it? maybe find a welder? not sure if that is the best solution Tofuball 01-18-2009, 08:09 PM The collet stopped closing. :) I use it to make holes to place re-bar or anchors in cement, through block walls, and into concrete slabs. czarofzar 01-18-2009, 08:14 PM does it matter? it'll still hammer and spin when you push it into your concrete, no? Tofuball 01-18-2009, 08:17 PM Sure, it hammers and spins, but it wont hold the drill bit, so a lotta good that does me :P czarofzar 01-18-2009, 08:25 PM wrap the grip with paper to center it and jam it in? pour lead into it? fcdrifter13 01-18-2009, 09:31 PM Pic of part please I thought you were talking about the chuck at first now I am confused Tofuball 01-19-2009, 08:58 AM You can call it a chuck too. The collet is the part that holds the drill bit. Part #23 in this picture http://www.toolpartsdirect.com/cgi-bin/noframes.cgi/skil/6850_TYPE_1 czarofzar 01-19-2009, 09:38 AM Ooooo i see. not what im used to. What is so broke about it? nothing liquid lube cant fix? Steel 01-19-2009, 10:32 AM Any old chuck will do as long as it can fit on that shaft I would imagine. YOu might be better off getting a bigger, badder hole-installer though. Tofuball 01-19-2009, 06:45 PM That's the problem, where am I gonna find one that fits the shaft? I dont even know how to get this one apart. Usually there is a screw inside it. Steel 01-19-2009, 08:22 PM It's probably a press fit. Though i'd say that it's not worth it and you're better off getting a new tool. Or bringit it to a repairman and have him fix it without messing it up further. sonofabelch 01-20-2009, 05:33 AM Bingo on getting a new one. Chances are you will spend a lot getting the replacement chuck and then the rest of the drill will fall apart around it eventually. Personally, I hit the pawn shops and yard sales. Even getting broken brand name tools works because you can turn them in for new ones if the company has that policy. Prolly half my hand tools come from the pawn shop dollar buckets and then I turn them into Snap-On, Craftsman, or whoever for brand new ones. You may be able to find a similar deal on what you are looking for. Werd Tofuball 01-20-2009, 07:38 AM I've tried, a comperable new hammer drill is around $200. The collet should be around $30. :/ Moot point if I cant find another one. I'll try disassembling this one first. czarofzar 01-20-2009, 09:55 AM Rent One For $15 Imo jshiz 01-20-2009, 02:09 PM Sears has some. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/search_10153_12605?keyword=drill+chuck |
