SpartanTS 11-07-2004, 08:16 PM First time competing with the Chevy, I hit a 146.0 db legal today, which was good for a whopping second place. I missed first place by .1 of a point. First place had 146.1 db. I'm still pissed about that. :(
But for a stock alternator and no battery, I think I did pretty good. The acoustics in the Cavy are a bit better than my Prelude so that helps out a lot.
Next time I have to hit at least 150 legal. Once I get a GM 200 Amp alternator and a gel cell, I should be well into the 150db range and my amps will finally be getting the power they deserve from my electrical system.
Anyway, just thought I'd share.
JPAccord 11-07-2004, 10:13 PM congrats, im still wanting to get mine metered, but i can never find time. I got a 200 amp alternator and Optimas biggest battery, and 0ga all over, id reccomend doing the same.
SpartanTS 11-07-2004, 10:29 PM I just e-mailed Mr. Alternator about an alternator for my car, so i'll see how much it is.
If I can get an alternator that is at least 120 amps at idle, i'm sure it'll give me plenty of power up to 2000 RPM.
Other than that, I may be upgrading amps soon. More than likely the 1440/2. I'm sure I can see at least a 3-6 db increase with the extra power. The last comp is Jan 1-2nd, so i'll see how the rest of the season goes.
Sean951 11-07-2004, 11:34 PM Congradulations, but i fail to see the point of it all. whatever floats your boat though.
preludedude 11-07-2004, 11:36 PM just another hobby....i dont see point in playing video games...:)...or computer games, or having a porsche turbo and never drivingit..;)

Cosby 11-07-2004, 11:36 PM not having this argument again. Instead I'll offer this bit of wisdom; Remove your alternator pulley and run the belt off of the bolt. It will surely get you a few extra amps at idle.

SpartanTS 11-08-2004, 09:43 AM I use protective hearing gear....now :)
And a SPL burp only lasts a few seconds. I don't listen to 146db's daily.
Sean951 11-08-2004, 10:07 AM Mark you dick :moon: when are you coming over to check out the new place like you said? or are you too busy these days?
sharo227 11-08-2004, 11:56 AM thats a good way to show how decibels are related to other sounds
JPAccord 11-08-2004, 03:28 PM mr. alternator can burn to the ground, they fucked me over for 2 months.
