ok, so i have a p.o.s. jeep and as usual i'm stuck pineing over one of my friends cars. so trey just got an '04 sti. its sick, plain and simple. sub-5 second 0-60 times, all-wheel drive, and a couple rally-inspired differentials make it damn near unstoppable. BUT, since i only have a basic knowledge of the ej20 motor, i'm not sure what kind of perfromance advice i should give to trey. he plans on doin the whole intake/exhaust/b.o.v. treatment, but does anyone know which intake/exhaust packages for this car privide the most power gains? the suspension is great, damn near perfect, but its got a lil more body roll than the Evo, and a little more pitch as well. can the stock suspension be tuned at all without major change? anyone who has any advice for trey please post up. keep it real homies....

lol....the sti won't need an uppipe because there is no cat there...the wrx has a precat before the turbo. there are lots of exhausts out there...the skunk2 provided the absolute most power. i personally have the m2. DO NOT BUY AN INTAKE FOR AN STi!!! he will run lean and blow the engine. don't set the boost higher than 17 psi. i'm late for work or i'd post more

There are no speakers in the doors. I sold the stock wrx receiver and speakers for $225 out of the wrx I parted, to give your friend an idea if he wants to go that route.

The reason the car doesn't have the radio is b/c it's geared more for performance, but also to keep the weight down to compete with the Evo. That's why there are no factory fogs on an STi.

The 6 speed is not indestructable either. I don't want to toot my own horn (toot....lol), but I was on a subaru program last summer with approximately 30 STi's. If you beat the hell out of this tranny it can break too. At the end of the summer there were several cars with bad synchros or they would pop out of gear. Of course, these cars were beat on pretty hard. Some of the people driving them were just learning to drive a stick !! Burnt clutch smell and clutch smoke were common.

if they wanted to reduce weight they should have ditched the awd system. surely it would be faster that way but traction wouldnt be as attainable i guess.

A. Subaru's angle is AWD
B. The car would handle like crap if they went to fwd (and not as good as awd if they did rwd)
C. The car would just smoke the front tires and do 0-60 in 7 seconds if fwd. Maybe it would be faster in a straight line after it caught traction, but in the twisties it would be an understeering mess.
D. Lots of people buy these cars knowing that they'll need the awd in snow or adverse conditions one day.
E. Subaru's angle is AWD

yes...the engine will blow. because it has a newer type of MAF...the ecu compensates for the angle of the air coming into the MAF. if the angle is altered it will still have the stock compensation. it reads less air when the intake is installed...even though there is more, so it runs lean...so lean in a lot of cases...it's blown the engine. buy a K&N panel filter and call it a day.

yeah i understand what your saying, but even with the drop in panel filter it will still flow more air than the stock paper filter....so wont it do the same thing that it would with piping and conical filter, but maybe to a lesser extent? and cant he just adjust the air/fuel ratio?

hes just saying the angle is important to how the sensor is designed

MR > AWD for handiling

cant beat it for polar moment, lower overall weight, and nearly similar off the corner traction

MR and AWD are more advanced driver friendly...the rewards are greater, but if you **** up in one and lose control...it's kinda hard to get it back. the awd is easier...but the MR sometimes isn't.

MR cornering up hill < awd, other than that I can't say b/c I've never driven one. AWD is a lot easier to throw into a curve and not pucker your butt hole for going in too hot.

ok, thats all fine and good about the MAF sensor, but how do guys put intakes on their cars and the motors dont blow? there has to be some way around it

**** you allen...always have a smartass comment about **** you don't even know. oh, wait...you DO know EVERYTHING about subaru's and all don't you :rolleyes: if you ask on nasioc/iclub/wrx hackers/club wrx, etc...they will tell you it's risky to put an intake on a wrx. yes, i have one on mine right now, and no i haven't blown my engine...but i'm probably about to put my stock airbox back one w/ the K&N.


btw, first thing he should do is get rid of the silencer in the passenger side fender well...you'll be able to hear the turbo spool up better.

first he should get a kit from Illstreet.inc, and put in 2 15" DD 9515s...and then get a underbody neon kit to match his car...and oh yeah, take that silencer off so you can hear turbo spool better like someone gives a ****...yeah, while driving, i like to hear every noise my car makes.. :rolleyes:
