My DVD collection (about half what it used to be - working on building it back up). The Scarface Collector's Edition on top? Got it for about $10 at work :wiggle: :D Perfect condition, too! The empty spot next to the Indiana Jones Trilogy is where Band of Brothers goes - just started watching it AGAIN the other night.

My living room seating (and yes, I have a dorky collection of McFarland sports figures). I need to do some decorating now that I'm settled in my new apartment - it's too damn stark right now.

My home theater, featuring my newest toy: Samsung 56" DLP... which fucking ROCKS. Now I need to upgrade my speakers - probably going to go Klipsch all the way around. For reference, the speakers pictured are about 3' tall :)

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y38/mstpos24/IM000145.jpg

And my front entry, where I tend to dump all my tennis gear. I just had to re-wrap the grips on both rackets. Probably won't be using them for a couple weeks, though, as I have a nasty case of tennis elbow (and my dumbass played a 3+ hour match last night even though I was in pain during warm-up). I can't even pick up my laptop bag without pain :(

I got it at CC for $2699 w/24 months 0%. Could have gotten it cheaper online, but wanted the convenience and security of buying from a major, local store. I also got my DIRECTV HD DVR for $499 after rebate, and 0% on that for 12 months.

My new house so far is a foundation on a dirt lot. The general contractor is having a hard time finding a framer since there is so much construction in the area. I'll spare you the pictures of the crappy little rental I'm in. I'd post pics of the house I sold in February, but I'm at work and the pics are not. I haven't been visiting the forum from home lately since my DSL has been out since Friday. Stupid small town phone company dipshits.

Actually. Here is a picture of my garage after pulling a giant burnout in a '78 Dodge Magnum. The Magnum donated it's E58 (high performance) 360 to my '72 Swinger. Leaving the garage door open was a mistake. The garage stunk for 2 weeks after the burnout. You can see the nose of my '66 Dart road racer in the garage and some crappy lawn chairs, but not much else. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b226/2E151/MagnumBurnoutAftermath1.jpg

So why don't we post pics of where we work too? I'm posting this from inside the building behind the antennas.

You are, if you're fool enough to get into an argument with me...

About the only thing an FD has going for it over an AWD 1G is handling and arguably appearance. That assumes the original 13B-REW is still in the car.

A good set of full coilovers (JIC, RRE, etc.) costs less than the down payment on any FD in an average used-car lot and not only equals but surpasses the handling ability of Felix's Rolling Inferno.

And before someone tries to say that FD's are not all that unreliable, just STFU. The numerous catastrophic engine failures outweigh the small handful of highly experienced builders who have found solutions, albeit expensive ones. The reality is that without Jim Mederer-esque experience, it is impossible for either the backyard mechanic or Mazda itself to build a turbocharged rotary engine that can be relied on to last longer than a couple track days, let alone daily driving. That's why I've owned GSL-SE's, and refuse to buy a turbo rotary.

Furthermore, it's been said that 1G DSM's are ugly. I don't think so, but unlike FD owners, I don't base my car purchases on ability to attract golddiggers. I have a healthy, active social and sex life in a 1G DSM and an old Sentra because I have social skills that meddle and others sorely lack. I don't think anyone here besides perhaps Zero Cylinder would ever freely choose to be in the company of such a whining, asinine fool.

FD's look more expensive than they are. And I don't know what planet you're from, but unless your hypothetical high school student has all his living expenses paid for by a third party (parents, relatives, etc), the only job that could finance the purchase and maintenance of an FD would be selling drugs.

Any HS kid with a job could afford an FD that's a total loss due to fire or accident. Few HS kids have the expertise or finances to bring back to life an FD in their price range. I could have bought a fire-damaged 1994 R1 for $1500 a couple years ago, but I let it pass because I knew I didn't have the experience or funds to bring it back.

I can get a non-running, non-turbo 1G DSM for $20 (no typo) today. Does that make buying it a good idea?

I owned a turbo rotary in highschool. Had no problem polishing that turd. Don't blame your ineptness around cars on being young. A kid who lives just a few blocks from me took his beater t2 from a junkyard special to 418whp by himself. He just graduated this past May. The day it was tuned, I rewired his CAS for him which he botched, but that was it.

Hey I spent all my money on weed and booze too, I just took out these things called student loans that paid for my tuition. Working during the year took care of my rent and my bad habits. 32k year for school is not abnormal in northeast

NYU
MIT
Boston University
etc etc

these are all like 40-50k / year schools

rutgers undergrad is considered super cheap for in state students, and even then its way more then 6k a year. more like 6k a semester.

right now im going to rutgers law, granted its a grad school but it is 16k/year for in-state students

Eh, if you're going to go off of the words somebody mentions in debate in full seriousness around here, i'd think a LOT of people would have had their credibility shot to hell, yourself included.... :wiggle:

.....btw i really admire you guys who managed to build yourselves up and buy a house, support a family, etc. (see the on topic posts in this thread). i think thats awesome, and not at all easy to do.

I feel the same way. Making a living is not as easy as it seems when you're 17. At 18, I became completely independent and reality came crashing down on me. Now I'm nearly 30(tomorrow) and I built myself up from being practically homeless to making a good living. And although I don't own a house or have a family, I still feel proud of my acomplishments. So, kudos to those that made the right decisions in life. I truely admire all of you. :bigthumb:

Prelude, you buying or renting? I've been renting the last 7 months. This is the longest I've paid rent since I got out of the Air Force. The house that's being built will be #3 for me and the wifey.

My school cost $32000 a year, there weren't many options beyond student loans for a 19 year old kid to make that much money without a full time job as well.
I went to a Cal State University. About $3,500.00 a year (fulltime) when I started and about $4,000 a year (full time) when I finished. The government flips the rest of the bill. Good ol Cal States.

With or without the 44.6 acres it's sitting on?

(it's a pump house, on the other side of the row of trees that had to be left along the creek running through the bottom of the valley)

Well, I'd like to say with. But the house itself would more than likely break the bank.

Area looks logged. An investment, or just clearing some space?

Area looks logged. An investment, or just clearing some space? The timber paid for the land, basically, and it's already been replanted. ~5 acres of the lower "field" were left alone. No plans to build on it at this time, since it's too far away to commute from, and we'll be looking for a bigger house in Redmond next spring.

Most kids would love to have a go-cart budget.

U know that ur lucky.

When I was in high school I didn't have $20k for go-carting.

My cars at the time:

Aries K-car
Dodge Dart Swinger
Plymouth Valiant

weaksauce.

the only way they would cancel school here was if a four wheel drive pickup with chains on couldn't make it up the hill to the highschool. At that point, busses couldn't make it, so they would unload the kids at the bottom of the hill and make em hike up to school (about 1/4 mile) usually in three or more feet of snow with ice underneath :wiggle:

It was supposed to be a joke guys.

I guess I forgot that it doesn't get that hot everywhere in the US.

90 degrees is hot, but not too hot. You want hot, walk in Arizona or Texas in the middle of summer.
