Sean951 11-09-2004, 06:53 PM Once I get the money and the time, im going to build a lotus 7 replica powered by a superbike engine. Im thinking of going with an r1 engine because of the lower weight than the busa and no need for dry sump. It also has about the same power output especially when I supercharged it with a used Mini S unit. Weight of these cars using a bike engine is usually around 800-1000 pounds depending on how much carbon fiber you use. 0-60 is a little over or a little under 4 secs depending on weight. Top speed is relatively low, about 120-135 because of the low gearing. But you get to use the sequential 6 speed for the bike witch is cool. The car uses a steel space frame made from 1-2inch square tubing, should be a fun project. You can also make these street legal just like dune buggies. Should be fun at auto-x. here’s some pics of some other people built. another thing, i want to use a bike engine. but people have built these things with about evert engine you can imagine. including rotarys and v8s. you can find more info at this (www.locostbuilders.co.uk ) site. Sean951 11-09-2004, 06:59 PM the pics, the last one has 2 bike engines, i think i heard it can do 0-60 in 2.6-3.2 secs depending on tires. http://www.illstreet.com/albums/sean/fa8_b.jpg http://www.illstreet.com/albums/sean/black_indy.jpg http://www.illstreet.com/albums/sean/chassis6.sized.jpg http://www.illstreet.com/albums/sean/cosworth_turbo_westie.jpg http://www.illstreet.com/albums/sean/twinbike.jpg Cosby 11-09-2004, 08:42 PM I kind of want to do something like that but I'd like to design it myself and I'd also like something a bit more modern looking. Sean951 11-09-2004, 09:04 PM me to, that would just be a stepping stone into building a car from scratch. After building one of those sevens, i would like to build a mid engine car using maybe a frontwheel drive turbocharged engine. just moving the engine to the back and making wishbones to make it mid engine. also design a body from scratch ad build it out of fiberglass, but thats a long ways away if i ever actualy do it. check out this site. hes actualy doing it. http://www.grabercars.com/Mambosite/index.php ChevyMuscle 11-10-2004, 01:48 AM i heard a key word in there... money haha... naw i expect you wont have school in spring and you should be gettin off yo @$$ (me too lol) and make some cash and get started on it by summer. its totally possible Sean951 11-10-2004, 08:33 AM thats the plan. Stegall 11-10-2004, 05:58 PM that dual bike one is awesome. also the one that has the huge carbon canister hanging off the side of it... sweetness 91lx 11-10-2004, 10:10 PM power output especially when I supercharged it with a used Mini S unit. Try one off an Escort GT in a junkyard or either a turbo from a thunderbird SuperCoupe. Cosby 11-10-2004, 10:33 PM I like them too Sean951 11-10-2004, 11:24 PM thats the thing about those things......you can realy make them whatever you want. i rarely see 2 that look the same. you build them from the ground up, thats a true custom car.....forget bodykits and bolt-ons. sharo227 11-15-2004, 12:10 PM good luck |
