IHI 09-02-2007, 11:49 PM What's Canada like? Everyone I've met from Canada has been a lot nicer than the typical American. They're humble, soft spoken, intelligent, and have nicer looking wives than Americans. Is the weather too cold? Any engineering work up there? Do they allow you to carry firearms? Smog laws? IaMtHeRuThLeSs1 09-02-2007, 11:54 PM not sure about your questions but I'm pretty sure that you import cars from japan as long as they're 15 years or older... that reason alone is enough to move...plus the cold air is good for boost. Manntis 09-03-2007, 02:43 AM The weather is cold in winter. Mild on the west coast, friggin' 30 below and dry on the prairies, and wet cold in Ontario and Quebec. But the summers are likewise; Mild, dry heat, to hot & humid. Lots of engineering work - bombardier alone employs thousands of engineers for trains, jets, etc. Canada is the worlds sixth largest manufacturer of cars, one of the largest as well for all the fiddly bits (mirrors, trunk releases, etc. - all the stuff that gets farmed out to secondary suppliers) and a lot of the design work is done up here by the Big Three, Honda, and GM Canada's military branch. You can import any car from the US or overseas provided it's older than 15 years. BC and Ontario have smog testing, but most other provinces don't. I pay $750/year to plate and insure my RX-7 (plates and insurance are sold together in Saskatchewan and BC, though Alberta has private insurance and provincial plates) with $1 mil liability and no fault full coverage, less a $50 deductible. As for the women? When country singers want cute girls to dance in the background of their music videos, they come up here to film them. I've shot 3 such videos this summer. No, you can't carry firearms. You can get an FAC (firearms acquisition certificate) after passing a course, which entitles you to long guns (hunting rifles). You can then apply for a restricted weapons permit to own a pistol or semiautomatic rifle. in the case of a pistol it must be stored at home, locked up, or stored at your gun club. If you want to transport it to the club from home or vice versa, you apply for a permit valid for that day only. and it is pronounced "about", not "aboot". Except in some Toronto neighbourhoods - but who wants to sound like them? Eatmyclutch 09-03-2007, 03:06 AM I pray to the God of candy that Canada will have lots of candy. Zero 09-03-2007, 10:01 AM Every canadian I've met has been easy going to the point they'll let people walk over top of them. "Eh" is fucking annoying. Ark2 09-03-2007, 11:41 AM Every canadian I've met has been easy going to the point they'll let people walk over top of them. I kind of doubt that. "Eh" is fucking annoying. Granted, this is something that we do say often enough, but American parodies seem to exaggerate our use of it. If there is one thing that bothers me though, it's that Canada seems to lack a unified identity. Say No To Pistons 09-03-2007, 12:05 PM They have lots of mixed chicks there. Asian + french = win. So.... yeah... About that. vrooom305 09-03-2007, 12:24 PM If there is one thing that bothers me though... it's French Canadians.... They have lots of mixed chicks there. Asian + french = win. So.... yeah... About that. yeah about that...there are A LOT of good looking women in BC. Steel 09-03-2007, 02:15 PM I'd only go up there for the wimmen. wonner 09-03-2007, 02:16 PM Fucking draft dodgers Eatmyclutch 09-03-2007, 03:54 PM http://www.twistedcodes.com/graphics/funny_pictures/a/lmao.jpg Manntis 09-04-2007, 05:55 PM Most of the draft dodgers have gone back to the US. IHI 09-05-2007, 01:33 AM Wow, GREAT info Manntis! Yeah I'm looking for a place to start my career and I don't see many areas in the states where I want to live. The Pacific NW is kind of nice, although Portland residents in particular seem to go out of their way to be weird. Thanks. :) jhammons01 09-05-2007, 05:19 PM http://www.twistedcodes.com/graphics/funny_pictures/a/lmao.jpg that is my picture vrooom305 09-05-2007, 06:00 PM Wow, GREAT info Manntis! Yeah I'm looking for a place to start my career and I don't see many areas in the states where I want to live. The Pacific NW is kind of nice, although Portland residents in particular seem to go out of their way to be weird. Thanks. :) how about seattle then? IHI 09-07-2007, 02:27 AM I hate seattle. It's just like portland for weirdness and hardly navigable roadways, but the people are high strung like they're on meth, and they steal cars. Manntis 09-21-2007, 02:22 PM If you ARE interested in moving to Canada, now would be a good time. Our dollar just passed the US dollar, and is predicted to remain above for the next 20 years or so. Many Canadians who moved to the US are moving back, as the economy is booming and taxes are plunging. rtryb2200 09-21-2007, 05:22 PM I really think Canada would be a good place to live....but I am not sure the wife would like to live there. Plus I would have to wait a few more years Ark2 09-21-2007, 05:40 PM If you ARE interested in moving to Canada, now would be a good time. Our dollar just passed the US dollar, and is predicted to remain above for the next 20 years or so. Many Canadians who moved to the US are moving back, as the economy is booming and taxes are plunging. The next 20 years? May I ask where you read that? Manntis 09-21-2007, 08:10 PM CBC Newsworld business report - Jeanie Lee interviewed currency experts who said the inertia of currency trends means this is the start of a 20-50 year cycle of the loonie being higher value than the greenback I love pop-up lights 09-21-2007, 08:18 PM too cold for me fuck that! I would love to visit though :D Ark2 09-21-2007, 09:20 PM CBC Newsworld business report - Jeanie Lee interviewed currency experts who said the inertia of currency trends means this is the start of a 20-50 year cycle of the loonie being higher value than the greenback Damn, that can't be good... Many Canadians who moved to the US are moving back, as the economy is booming and taxes are plunging. I actually am very interested in moving there. I need to take a road trip and get a feel for various areas, but I'll be done with school in 3 terms. If the cost of housing vs. engineering income and quality of life are better than in the states, the better looking women are just icing on the cake. Steel 10-01-2007, 10:24 AM If it wasnt for the gun control and the goddamn cold, I might consider it. But my eyes are towards Arizona now. Kinda the opposite. 2ndGen.Rocket 10-01-2007, 12:06 PM Damn turncoats Supper 10-01-2007, 12:20 PM If it wasnt for the gun control and the goddamn cold, I might consider it. But my eyes are towards Arizona now. Kinda the opposite. gun control is the only reason I wouldn't be moving up there. cool_as_crap 10-02-2007, 10:16 AM What are the emigration laws like? Can you just waltz up in there? I thought it was hard to gain citizenship. Terrh 10-02-2007, 11:02 AM if you look like a decent, productive human being with intent to work and improve society, it's pretty easy. stay the hell out of ontario though, they just passed a retarded street racing bill here. Manntis 10-02-2007, 02:32 PM gun control is the only reason I wouldn't be moving up there. You can still own long guns and pistols - you just have to have a Firearms Acquisition Certificate (proves you've taken the weapons safety course) and register as the owner of the firearm. What's the big deal? Manntis 10-02-2007, 02:37 PM too cold for me fuck that! I would love to visit though :D True, it gets cold. In the winter. On the prairies and Ontario. Most of BC is as warm as Washington State, and in fact has many successful vinyards. In Saskatchewan, where I live, winters have been mild since the El Nino of the late 90's (climate change?) with winter temps around -10ºC (14º F) and summer temps at 28ºC (82.4º F) 2ndGen.Rocket 10-02-2007, 02:43 PM True, it gets cold. Supper 10-02-2007, 03:08 PM 14 degrees is mild? for Saskatchewan, it sounds mild to me. Last time I was up in the Sask area it was mid winter and colder then a witches tit, that was quite a few years ago now though. Hell, 14 degrees is mild for Montana, Colorado, Wyoming, and Northern Utah. You can still own long guns and pistols - you just have to have a Firearms Acquisition Certificate (proves you've taken the weapons safety course) and register as the owner of the firearm. What's the big deal? the guys I know that live in Central BC talk about how much of a bitch it is to get a gun. Mainly with how long the process is to get a permit. Manntis 10-02-2007, 04:06 PM Most people I know don't have trouble getting a gun registered. Exceptions are restricted weapons (full auto, etc.) or if the person attempting to obtain the weapon are going through a separation or divorce and there is a reasonable possibility of violence against their ex, such as uttered threads or a history of battery. Terrh 10-02-2007, 11:29 PM hahaha sask is cold as fuck. It only froze here like 2 or 3 times last winter... and didn't get cold till mid january. Global warming sure sucks ass in the long run, but it's nice right now. Eple 10-03-2007, 07:01 PM You can import any car from the US or overseas provided it's older than 15 years. BC and Ontario have smog testing, but most other provinces don't. Any North American car is game to import, no matter the year, it's just easier to import cars over 15 years old since you don't have to meet as many requirements. However, RHD cars are harder to import, and people just wait for the 15 year rule to hit the car they want. HOWEVER, this doesn't mean you have to wait for another 9 years to get a 2001 Spirit R. If you know how to work the system, and have a lot (like over $50,000 for import fees) you can get it in. For instance there are 2 R34's rolling around Vancouver. However i do know that one was imported with R32 VINs, but I'm still unsure as to how the other R34 was let in...last i heard the owner was paying $20,000 to get one off DOT approved headlights. Vancouver is the only area that has smog testing (Air Care), Vancouver Island, Nanaimo, Kelowna, Kamloops, etc does not. I pay $750/year to plate and insure my RX-7 (plates and insurance are sold together in Saskatchewan and BC, though Alberta has private insurance and provincial plates) with $1 mil liability and no fault full coverage, less a $50 deductible. Yup, BC has one single insurance company that is run by the provincial government called ICBC. Makes life kinda easy, but can be a pita sometimes. As for the women? When country singers want cute girls to dance in the background of their music videos, they come up here to film them. I've shot 3 such videos this summer. Never been to Sask, nor do I like country music. However, I've noticed a serious lack of hot women in New Zealand compared to BC...thank god I'm moving home in a month and a half.. 2ndGen.Rocket 10-03-2007, 09:38 PM Anything under 40 is cold as shit. 14 degrees would have me locked inside wrapped in blankets with the heat on. Queen 10-03-2007, 10:26 PM Or maybe if you didn't go around fucking entire fraternities you wouldn't be tempted to do black porn just so you can feel something 2ndGen.Rocket 10-03-2007, 10:28 PM Maybe if your fucking dick wasn't so small you would have had a better time. 2ndGen.Rocket 10-03-2007, 10:29 PM Oh wait, it was so small because you couldn't even get a hard-on. Next time bring some Cialis, old man. Queen 10-03-2007, 10:38 PM Yea, don't act like I don't have solid evidence of that 3rd nipple of yours IHI 10-03-2007, 11:53 PM Lol Vert8813B 10-04-2007, 07:23 AM Scabby Vagina FTW? Agreed, their import restrictions alone are enough to tempt me to move. But I can't move, because if I did I'd start importing skylines and shit and go broke faster than i ever thought possible. Manntis 10-05-2007, 05:28 AM Any North American car is game to import, no matter the year Wrongo in the congo. Transport Canada & the Registrar of Imported Vehicles has an "approved" list for cars under 15 years from the US. If it ain't in the "admissable" column, it doesn't get in: http://www.tc.gc.ca/roadsafety/importation/VAFUS/list/VAFUS.pdf And forget about Mexican cars (also North American, remember?) |
