Apparently it's the only one that can't be detected.

pricier than V1.

I'll still keep the Escort 8500 X50 for the FD.

This one will be for the truck which stands taller.

Are radar detectors illegal in CA?

Bel owns Escort now.

So they are basically the same shit.

As a matter of fact bel, Escort and V1 all use the same motorola chip that u can flash upgrade to deal with the newer frequencies.

V1's advantage is telling direction.

V1 doesn't have a sensitivity advantage over the other 2 for the past few years.

As a matter of fact V1 has been slacking off and have been losing ground in the sensitivity tests.

that being said, all 3 gives u enough warning for the most part to react.

The BIG advantage that the new Bel STi driver is that it's undetectable by cops' radar guns.

Newer radar guns can tell if the car has a radar detector (it's legal in CA TO have a detector).

V1 doesn't have this technology.

I personally don't see much value on the direction indicators the V1 has, since it's a good rule of thumb to slow down if it goes off, iregardless of where the signal is coming from. I have seen a few examples of cops working in teams, where one cop would have the radar gun and the other would be waiting down the street for the driver that felt he was "safe" to speed.

If its legal, than whats the advantage?

Yeah, why is it advantageous in CA to not let the cop know you've got a detector?

V1's going in the Miata. $400 well spent.

I agree--at that point you are spending money for features that you will never use.

So, when is Subaru Technica International going to get pissy about the name of their new radar detector?

I have a V1 and it has saved my ass PLENTY of times. The arrows are the best part of the V1, nothing like knowing there's an undercover cop behind you with his radar on. I used an Escort 8500 for a few days after using my V1 and I hated it. I automatically got on the brakes and started looking around trying to figure out where the SOB was.

The force is weak in u........ as well as ur spidey senses......

do u have the x50?

btw, i love how people try to justify the "directional" features that the V1 has.

"oh, cool, the cop is behind me, or i just passed them. lemme put the pedal to the metal and hit warp 10....."

the other thing i hate about the V1 is it looks like some 1980's radar detector.....

Meh, I have a $40.00 Walmart special, and it has saved my butt many, many times. I'll probably get a REALLY nice one once I get my RX-7 running again.

whatever....

I have an 8500 and it's been great....who cares where the cop is, you hit the skids, I've seen enough of their traps to figure out where it's coming from, and you can tell by the signal strength if they are trailing you or not

How about when there's more than one?

Since when do people buy radars for the looks? The v1 (the new ones) are pretty compact, and when it's hardwired at the top of the winshield, its barely noticeable.

YZF and I are talking about more than one that are not using a radar gun, but years of experience and spidey / jedi senses.

Not if there are more than one radar gun working.
