The job I'm in now is nice, but its not going anywhere at all. I want a job that pays well and is easy to do, and not getting dirty everyday is another plus. I know the county is looking for a bunch of new cops because of the growth thats happened in the last few years, mostly to track down the racers that are all over the place. 17 bucks an hour starting to sit in the car they buy me and catch ricers? I dont think I can turn that down......

I can only see 2 downsides: Everyone hates cops (understandably, I dont like them much myself, lazy basterds) unless they need one. And it rains here alot, so when theres an accident I'd get wet.

I'm not worried about getting shot because there arn't alot of guns around here, and every time a cop is called 5+ cops all show up at the same time, so theres plenty of backup.

Not to mention I'd never have to worry about another speeding ticket. What do you all think? I want to get some input on this...

You sound like an idiot, people like you are the reason people "dislike" cops so much.

"I'm bored with my job so I'm just going to go and apply for one where if I actually cared I could improve the area I live in but instead I'm going to slack off and be an assfuck, helping to ruin an already imperfect viewpoint that people have of people in that profession."

Stay where you're at, begin to drink copious amounts of strong alcohol and take up smoking at least three packs a day so you die more quickly.

and you sound like your judgeing people you dont know

The reason my job cant go anywhere is because there's only 3 people at the shop where I work. Me, another mechanic and the owner. Hard to go up in that situation.

And the cops around here are already lazy bastereds that dont do their jobs, I know I can do more for people in this place then any of the cops I've dealt with.

If I get to protect people around here while getting paid alot more, getting good benifits and in general doing less work then I'm doing now then I dont see that as a stupid idea.

And I've noticed that most of the people doing stupid stuff in cars around here are young males with some POS car they worked on in their back yard trying to impress the girl in the passenger seat. Shit like that should be off the street.

Dunno what business you're in... but you can make a whole lot more $, get put in a lot more interesting positions, work on better projects, etc, if you go back to school. Even a community college or tech-school type deal can really change your job a lot.

I already have a full time job, but its not something I see myself doing for 40+ years.

And I don’t see how all you people can tell me that I need to do something better with my life when in reality I can do more as a cop then behind some desk for 9 hours a day reading online forums to pass the time.

Just because you've dealt with some dumbass cops doesn't mean I'm the typical highschool dropout with a superiority complex who spends his time trying to insult others to boost his self esteem.

BTW, insult my mis-spelling all you want, I’ll be the first to admit I cant spell.

Here's a story. I worked at a small town school once. We just installed cameras and a few months later, we had another break in. Someone was loading a Ford with a gumball machine on top. Looked closer, it was the husband of a teacher who worked there. He was a Sheriff.

Lots of cops causes crime but until you catch them with vid cameras, its the brotherhood that makes them strong. You WILL watch their back or else.

But perhaps you will make the difference. Nothing wrong with that either.

Go for it man. I'm going to the New York State Police pretty soon. It's a fun job and at a lot of places you can work 3 12 hour shifts for 2 weeks and on the 3rd week work a 4th day. The job generally gives you a lot of time off and if they need you for overtime, alot of places pay double pay. State police here start out at 68k a year though but you need an Associates for Patrol and a Bachelors for a BCI Investigator. People here probably say what they say because they see no problem in habitualy breaking the law, until they get cough and then they go cry about it.

I've heard plenty of stuff about bad cops around here, doing what they feel like and getting away with it. I cant predict the future but I'm pretty stubborn in the head when it comes to my morals and as long as there's a way to expose any bad cops without bringing hell's rath upon me I'll be sure to do it.

Bonus story: Back in high school they installed camera's and warned us students to watch ourselves because they were watching us. A short while later someone set a trash can on fire and they made a HUGE fuss about the person fessing up. We told the security to just check the tapes and they told us "we cant, they’re fake"

So you're saying you never speed, jaywalk, spit into the wind, etc etc. What a load.

When i was younger, i liked cops. Then I got older and got harassed more and more, now i hate the fucking pigs.

I don't speed or jaywalk. I spit, but the fact of the matter remains I don't cry like a bitch when I get caught.

^ But if you ever get drunk, and you're around people, that's public intoxication and AGAINST THE LAW!

I dont cry like a bitch, and the times I stopped on my bike i was grateful that they werent bastards, but the fact of the matter is, my bike's top speed is a lot higher than a crown vics top speed, so if they want me, they're gonna have to work for it. Everyone knows that traffic cops are there to generate money (look to VA, they even admitted it with those insane fines) and thats why people hate them.

Now if only every cop was like that. The other night when the cop that plled me over was nice enough not to bust me for DUI (he's cool), the cop that gave me a ride to the station, doing FIFTY in a 25. FIFTY!. And i got pulled over originally foooor.... 43 in a 35!

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.

To the OP, I think being a cop can be a great thing, but I think you're doing it for the wrong reasons. I don't think it's the type of job you apply for because the benefits are good and you don't mind the pay. Those are just side perks, and you can find those in plenty of other government jobs. You should become a cop because you really give a damn and want to make a difference. If you aren't going in with that mindset, the time it takes for you to become resentful and either be constantly angry or just not give a damn will be practically three times as soon. It's like running for president because you get to live in a sweet house, travel all the time, and ride around in Airforce One and your limo everywhere.

WEll heck, if They dont have to follow the laws then why should I? 50 in a 25 is criminal speeding, esp in a terribly handling overweight RWD car in the rain. God knows they would have thrown me on the ground for that. And the main reasons I didnt get busted were 1) i passed the FST easily 2) i wasn't being a cockhead to the cop.

If you decide to be a cop, then don't go on a powertrip, that's all I ask.
