every VW made after mid '90s is from South America. They don't build them in Germany these days.

I thought it was Brazil for some reason. Either way VW isn't a German car anymore.

They have a different way of building cars. Their suppliers actually come in and install the components they make. They do very little themselves, in-house.

yup, designed in germany, assembled in mexico, my VW is a big pile of shiznit. but 500 bucks for a 96 sounds good, and the 4 doors offset the 7 nicely. oh well i guess

Some of them really *are* crap cars.

I know the one I bought is turning into an expensive heap. Bah!

My sister has a 95 Jetta that has taken a few cross country trips, 3 wrecks, and a broken timing belt...

Still runs to this day with 160k miles on the original clutch. Drives it occassionally now.

My uncle got a new old bug before they closed down the plant that was making them. Looks exactly like a 74 but it was made in like 94, and all you have to do is swap some floor pans and a couple tags and that bitch is completly legal.

same idea.

sorta like saying thailand and korea are not all asian.

bottom line is that south of the border residents are more interested in mating than they are making cars.

Everyday at the factory is a friday or monday.

U'll never get a weds car.........

The mk3 (93-98) two liter cars are dead reliable. AFAIK, the most reliable watercooled VWs.

In general, VWs are good cars. Fun to drive, attractive, solid. You just need to have two of them, so that when one breaks down, you have something else to drive ;)

the mk4 cars are only really worthwhile as commuters, and with the TDI... IMHO, of course.

Yeah, AFAIK, they are. Great chassis the mk5 is. I've heard nothign but good things about them, and that 2.0 16vT engine. I'd love to put one in one of my older VWs.
