Because I hate the music in the commercial, because I hate the artsy fag types that they pander to, and because Apple's first generation software is a notorious shitshow.

iWould buy one, but my cellphone contract doesn't end till December. By then, I figure I should be able to find one for a reduced price after the 1st gen trial and error has run its course.

Plans start from 59.99 for 450 Minutes, 79.99 for 900, and 99.99 for 1,350 minutes...

Oh yea and the phone is $500 & $600.

DarkAngelKamui
06-28-2007, 09:43 AM
Hmm, well the service is a bit expensive. I don't even use 450 minutes as is, so I know most of em would be going to waste.

As for the phone being $500, meh.. I consider it a merger cost between finally buying an iPod (4 gig = $100+, 8 gig = $200+), a mini computer/PDA ($100-$600 depending on the model and functions), and a brand new phone that hits the market ($299+ if you want something that's even remotely as cool in design as the iPhone).

Add up all those, and the $500-$600 doesn't seem all that ridiculous.

I don't like anything from Mac. I like baseball, apple pie and Microsoft.

I used to be a hardcore macfag.

I lived, breathed, ate, and slept Mac. It was almost obsessive. But they were kickass computers. Processor architecture smoked anything the wintel market was producing, and the low/mid-end macines were still held with the same regards to quality as the high-end video/photo machines. In general, they were great computers.

Then the iPod got real popular, and they started making it with real shitty parts, general low-quality stuff. Battery issues, HD crashes, etc.
My first iBook had logic board issues, known problem and Apple did what they could to keep me happy. Replaced that iBG3 with a brand new iBG4 and that thing kicked ass. Until its mainboard fried ~3yrs after I got it (about a year ago now) (Which, with my use was fucking great, hauling it around all day through college and work where it put on who-knows how many miles) Apple replaced it with one of the fancy-ass intel computers. This Macbook kinda sucks. Runs hot as fuck, the screen glares like a motherfucker, the keyboard is just weird, the OS is bloated (Who the fuck really needs 600+MB of printer drivers?), and when I reboot I usually have to reboot 4-5x before both bluetooth and wifi turn on and work right. It's a cheap piece of crap, much like the new iPods are (and that's why my 2nd-gen is still working great, had it on all day at work and it's still got 50% battery).

I'd expect the iPhone to be the same kind of crap. It's popular, affordably priced, and it's only a matter of time before there's threads about "my iphone is broke and i had it 3months!" and everyone's like "Yeah, this thing is a piece of shit I want my $400 back". It'll be interesting to see the security flaws it has.

I think unless Apple gives me a goddamn good deal (read: Free) on another Mac when this macbook dies, my next computer isn't going to be a Mac. I've had about enough of this low-quality bloated shit. If I wanted that, I would have bought a dell.

Apple is going to make a fuckin killing off these phones. I should go to Starbucks tomorrow to see all the metrosexuals and dumbass girls play with their new iPhone over their $5 cups of coffee...

I'm sure some idiot female I work with who makes $8/hr will magically have one tomorrow. Then she'll complain for a week about not having any $$$>

First - AT&T sucks- yeye its cingular but it has AT&T's name now. The phone costs way to much for something a windows capable smartphone could do. I am a Mac person but would not spend the cash to have a mac proprietary phone...not worth it IMHO

Because its a fuckin FAD. All this bullshit a phone can do, but they cant make a fuckin phone that DOESNT LOSE a signal and drop calls. Phones record videos, get internet, suck your dick, but LOSES SIGNAL in same fucking neighborhood all the time.

These people keep adding goodies to phones, when they cant even make the basic functions work.

One thing..Why in the hell does a PHONE need to do all this shit? IT doesnt. Whoever buys on of these needs to get dropkicked in the face and pissed on.

For starters, AT&T doesn't cover my area. Secondly, it's pricey, very pricey. Third, it's a huge screen, I break small screens, a big screen is just too much to risk. And I refuse to wear a holster.

My cellphone (Samsung Wafer) is more than I need. Every once in a while, I see the novelty in a camera on my phone, but rarely. I do use the weather feature in Celltop (have AllTel), and that's nice, but I have no need for the real internet in a cell phone. If I really need the internet, I'll use a computer.

And the battery dies after a year, requiring you to send your phone to Apple so they can replace it. Sounds like an awesome plan.

Yeah, and your warranty status determines how much you'll be coming out of pocket...

Within Warranty:
Here we go again...
This is an attempt to bring truth to the masses.
I think it’s a shame how people are responding to the whole "battery issue." Having been an employee at the Apple Store, I know how they handle their products and typical trends.

1. Most people never brought in iPods with problems until at least a year later.
2. The iPhone is FULLY covered for a year. (unless they can see that you destroyed it)
3. The AppleCare Protection Plan (available in July) will give TWO years of full coverage.

[the following is an excerpt from Apple’s Legal iPhone Warranty]
http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/iphone.pdf
"(1) YEAR from the date of retail purchase by the original end-user purchaser (“Warranty Period”). If a hardware defect arises and a valid claim is received
within the Warranty Period, at its option and to the extent permitted by law, Apple will either (1) repair the hardware defect at no charge, using new
or refurbished replacement parts…"

There you have it. They don’t charge you to replace the battery until your warranty is up AND the protection plan ($69) is less than the cost of a battery replacement.
If you check the consumer reports, you’ll notice that they’ll tell you to NEVER buy protection plans or extended warranties… unless it’s the Apple Care Protection Plan.

You HAVE to pay closer attention to what you're reading and DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH. Find the facts at the real site.
http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/service/battery/
(notice how it says "Out-of-Warranty")

Without Warranty:
Apple has released what it will cost to replace the battery in the iPhone, and consumers might be a bit put off. Replacement is a tricky ordeal, as the battery is apparently soldered into the device. The service will cost $79, plus $6.95 for shipping, plus an optional $29 'loaner iPhone' rental.
