D-Rock 05-24-2008, 12:26 PM Not sure what teh fuck happened, but my 360 decided to start working again... i tried it at least 30 times since it stopped working 5 months ago... yesterday... WIN!!!! that is all ive got... Squirrel 05-24-2008, 02:38 PM cool... but give it a few solid hours of gaming and i bet itll die on you again... can you send it in for repair? the shaolin 05-24-2008, 04:07 PM If you can't, there's a place on eBay that fixes em right for $60 including return shipping. Squirrel 05-25-2008, 05:22 AM If you can't, there's a place on eBay that fixes em right for $60 including return shipping. another thing you can do it if flops out is take the damn thing apart (void warranty of course) and apply some better/newer thermal compound to the heatsinks... but if your not very technically inclined... i wouldnt attempt this... D-Rock 05-25-2008, 01:41 PM i was afraid to shut it off... and it has been running non stop for a day or two... been working well... just waiting for it to remember that it cannot read discs anymore... i will look into this 60 fixer upper store... 1revnrex 05-25-2008, 11:24 PM Knock on wood mine doesnt start fucking up, at least until I get time to beat GTA IV the shaolin 05-26-2008, 01:12 AM The correct way to fix it is to install a different heatsink clamp and better thermal compound. This is kind of a "half assed" solution, as the GPU still needs to be reflowed to be as good as new. Although I'd be perfectly comfortable doing it, I decided to cough up the $60 because I don't have time to fuck with it, adjust screw tensions when it doesn't work, pop it apart when it hiccups later, etc. Search eBay for "reflow". That's how I found them. DarkAngelKamui 05-26-2008, 04:46 PM Psh, I ended up getting my 360 for free after fixing my friend's RROD'd one. All I had to do was get rid of the shitty X-clamps on the board and replace em with some screws and washers I got from Home Depot, then re-do the thermal paste on the heatsinks (CPU and GPU). The hard part was getting the sytem open without the keytool, but it's not impossible. D-Rock 05-27-2008, 12:59 PM a buddy of mine told me that m$ will prolly fix it for free if i bitch... theres also the rumor that instead of $100 they will knock it to 50, and with that there is the extra warranty... Cosby 05-28-2008, 11:40 AM I finally bought my own 360. It's in the mail on its way here! As far as making sure it doesn't break again, go out and buy one of those fans they make for them. |
