Demand is down significantly, coupled with the fact that oil futures closed below $57 today.

I paid $3.05 for 94 octane today =(

Fucking AAFEES will jack the price up at a moments notice to reflect "the national average in America" but forget about that average when it comes time to lower prices again =(

Or demand is low.

And speculators aren't buying up oil futures because the cost is only going to go up (see mortgage meltdown). Now that everyone is selling off their futures, oil prices began declining.

A litre and a quart are fairly equivalent (I think a litre is 30 ounces and a quart is 32 iirc) and there are 4 quarts in a gallon (128 fl oz). So you pay probably around 5 Aussie bucks a gallon.

Had to know conversions A. Living in West NY by Canada and B. Working in restaurants.

Sure he does, he could pass out an executive order (blegh) and say all oil companies are now state property.

Maybe he's just waiting for Obama to do that. Yay socialists!

Think we'll ever see it at 89 cents a gallon (cheapest I remember it in my area. probably was even cheaper for you guys outside the heavily taxed state of NY) again? I highly doubted it a few months ago, but the drop doesn't seem to be losing any steam.

Watch now as all this talk of alternative energies and such goes away, and people start buying big trucks and SUV's again. Then when we have another gas crunch, which will most likely be worse, they'll all be bitching and moaning and yelling to DO SOMETHING!

People as a whole are idiots. The time to act is now.

Its now down to 1.71 at Costco near my work.
By my girlfriends work, right next to the distribution center, it is now at 1.60.

Seems like every couple of days it gets lower by a few cents. With this rate, I'm thinking of a road trip!

I saw at this tiny auto shop that also has the real old gas pumps and also rents u-hauls $3.71. I dunno if they don't have gas anymore or went out of business or if that is the actual price. I highly doubt the latter though, but it would be funny.

Tofuball
11-25-2008, 01:16 PM
Theres a few places by me that sell gas for around 3.70 still, just cuz they cater to the folks who just pull off at the first gas station without even checking the price.

There's a place in Glen Echo that I'm pretty sure is still over five bucks, haven't checked tho.

2ndGen.Rocket
11-25-2008, 05:28 PM
The whole idea of regulating price gouging is retarded anyways, let the forces of supply and demand work as they should. I was telling people that around here when we had a shortage a couple months ago. Let the station charge $7 a gallon, they will eventually reach the point where people won't be topping off their tank every day. Once demand starts to pull back the stations will be forced to maintain competitive prices.

Tofuball
11-25-2008, 05:54 PM
Agreed.
