Any medical people in the house?
Regarding noisy bones and joints, anyone know how that sound is made when someone cracks their knuckles? Is this something good? Is it dangerous in any way?
I read somewhere that the sound is from small gas bubbles popping or bursting when under pressure. As you may know, some find it very easy to repeatedly create the sound. This leaves me to believe that perhaps there isnt small gas bubbles. Anyway, I looked up in the web and noticed most orthopedic surgeons believe that there is no harm in cracking your knuckles. While it may be annoying to those around us, they believe that an occasional knuckle crack is fine and can be combined with some simple stretches. They also suggest that you do not do this all day long.
Do you crack your knuckles or get your back cracked? Do you think it can help, or harm?

I'm about 2 months from my MD, knuckle cracking does NOT cause damage.

I can crack every finger in two places, pinkies and thumbs in 3. Pinkie toe in one place, two middle toes in two places, "long" toes in one, and big toes in one every so often. I can also crack one foot and one ankle, but I forget which ones. I can crack my shoulders, back, neck, and both elbows as well.
I have heard that with the fingers, compressing your fingers down to produce the cracks is bad b/c it puts more pressure on the joints, but pulling out does no damage.

Recently my right elbow and left knee have been popping a *lot*. Every now and then my neck and jaw will make a nice loud pop.
I try to avoid popping knuckles, but I do some hand/back/leg stretches during work so I don't get all tight... sitting down all day sucks.
