Anyone else heard this left on some parents voicemail?
It's pretty fucking lame, these guys have way too much time to talk. I heard alot of 50 cal fire, and some 7.62 machineguns from our side. It's fucking lame and a minor skirmish, if you can even call it that. They probably saw a poppy plant move the wrong way and opened fire.

7.62 machineguns from our side? You mean 5.56x45 NATO? We haven't used 7.62 since the 70's.

I was under the impression that the newer, light weight, one (replaced the M60/M240) was also running off of 5.56...
I can't remember what it's called off the top of my head though =\

The SAW started to appear in the 80's and was widely issued in the 90's. As you can see there are some big differences, overall they're good weapons. But I've always wondered how fucked up your situation is that you have to resort to using other soldiers magazines in your machinegun.(yes the saw has a port for m-16 mags right below the belt). The SAW weighs around 16-20 pounds depending what you have on it while the 240 weighs close to 30. Oddly as a side note the 240 that I carried overseas is a replacement for the M60 which my dad carried in vietnam.
