Honestly, how do you feel towards LE officers or deputies?

For the most part, I'm cool with them.

I can't hate on a guy for just doing his job, no matter how much it pisses me off. And I get pulled over for the bullshit stuff, too, exhaust, exhaust, "unnecessary acceleration," etc... And speeding.

I mean, the first time I got pulled over, I got bitched out for losing traction in a parking lot with 150 lbs sand in the back of my FC. She even got back up involved. I stood my ground, and got a written warning, but she was a real bitch, I mean REAL bitch.

Then I got pulled over for speeding in MI, 84 in a 55 (which I do not dispute). The trooper knocked it down to 10 over and said I lived in MI (where I went to college), not WI so I didn't have to pay the ticket on site. And because she said I lived in MI, it didn't get sent to WI, so my license is still spotless.

I got pulled over again by the same trooper about six months later for 71 in a 55. She flat out told me to keep it under 70 and I'd never have a problem in the UP. She was even yelling over my exhaust (straight piped NA FC) when I was having high idle problems, and she never said a thing about it. She knocked it to 5 over, and did the same as before with the in state thing.

Then I got pulled over near home for my exhuast. A county cop and city cop double teamed me a block from home. I got a written deferment and was given a month to comply, which I did, by going with RB presilencer and header. Two days after the thumbs up for the change, a state trooper got me from a quarter mile away. So I had to comply again or face a fine and other fun stuff, like being pulled over everytime he saw me. I complied, he said it was a good attempt and helped me comply further.

I'd have to say, more or less, I've had very agreeable meetings with the popo.

Then there's the rogue cop that goes on a wild shooting spree.

There are good cops and bad cops, although it seems like the bad ones far outnumber the good ones. I've been pulled over by 2 cops who called backup just so they could look over my FC. And then I've been pulled over just to have the cops say "just be more carefull next time ok?"

When it comes to the popo I say if you cant beat them join them :bigthumb:
That way theres at least one more good cop around.

i give them the respect they deserve. as stated before, there r some that take advantage of the badge, but u can't hate on all of them just for a few assholes. we all have jobs to do and theirs is no exception. next time ur stopped for speeding and it just seems to ruin ur day remember, they're just doing the job they're paid to do....an possibly saving a life in the process.

My wife's second cousin is a psychologist, and she said part of her doctoral thesis involved giving psychological profiling examinations to police officers, guards, and prison inmates. She said her profiles showed that the biggest difference between them was which side of the badge they were on.

For the most part I don't have an issue with them, though. Like anyone there are good ones and bad ones. It just bothers me when, for example when I was in Louisiana at school, my car was broken into 3 times and they never caught the person that did it, even though they had left giant sticky fingerprints all over the windows, but they're there to nail me with a $200 ticket for not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign.

my car was backed into last night while parked in front of my house. Cops won't even issue a file number nor investigate.

about as much as I liked it when face to face (or rifle to bandana) with some civilian while supporting the police in crowd & riot control, no doubt.

Maybe you should... I don't know... stop owning cars.

What car was it this time? That FB that's been schmucked twice already?

yeah, because having a car parked out front and some drunk prick leaving a house party backing into it is clearly my fault

I have to deal with LEO's all the time, and I've learned that State Police/Troopers have a much better attitude than the locals. I have only met one cool local cop from outside of my town. Now the ones in my hometown are a different story, I know this one guy, while not a friend, he had gotten a call about some weirdo hanging out in our neighborhood so he stopped by and asked, "Still got your drum set?" Nothing funnier than watching a cop in full uniform playing a drum set at 3 am.

I have read a lot on the internet forums about people's views of the police. THere seem to be 4 major groups.

1) The cops themselves. They are their own greatest supporters. They tell all of us civilians that we dont know how hard their jobs are, what they go through, they see things we never will and they know things we do not, etc. They preach and act like your father, even though half the time they are hypocrites and do the exact same thing they would condemn you for.

2) Those who dislike police as a whole but realize that there are good and bad ones, and not all are bad. I would probably have to include myself here.

I am not one of the haters, but I do dislike most of their methods. Why do I have issues with them, you might ask? The main thing that bothers me is the double standard. I am regulated and required by law to do certain things, yet they can do the exact things that I am not supposed to, and they do not have any consequences to face.

I do 46 in a 40 and they see me, I am probably going to get stopped, hassled, my time wasted, and likely they are going to want to take some of my money. Yet, they can go anywhere they want at just about any speed they want, on a call or not, lights and sirens or not, and they answer to no one. I constantly see cops loiter in parking lots and BS with each other and friends, roll through stop signs, speed, weave through traffic, follow too closely, sometimes they even pull out in front of oncoming traffic. What happens to the general public when we do those things?

Some say "well they are there when you call them for help, so don't complain". Well, not always true. Theft of car stereo related stuff used to be a big problem in my area, in fact I had my vehicles broken into 3 times in the same parking lot of my old job. It was all you could do to get the cops out there to write up a report, and forget them finding out who did it. Same for the time that equipment from 2 vehicles and some equipment from my home was stolen. Those fuckers actually call me up once a year to ask if I HAVE RECOVERED MY STOLEN ITEMS in the meantime.

Oh, what about the time I was involved in a road rage type incident where 2 guys nearly ran me off the road, later physically hit my car several times, and later rammed me while driving my car at 45mph on the road, doing noticeable damage to their vehicle and scaring the hell out of my wife. Full report was made in spite of the fact that the cops didn't care about what had happened, charges were pressed, witnesses were accounted for, ID of the driver/vehicle was positive, damage to the suspect's vehicle was documented, but when it went to court the bottom line was that no one cared and the offender got off with no punishment whatsoever.

So you'll forgive me if I don't bow down at the mention of police who are here to protect and serve me. They protect the city's revenue generation and serve their own interests.

3) There are some who just say "Fuck da police" and these are generally young people 25 and under who get a lot of attention from the police. These are usually extreme and it's obvious they aren't looking at the big picture. I would say that it is very true that young people are commonly profiled and hassled by the police, as I have been there and done that myself. When I was young I was constantly being followed, pulled over, hassled, ticketed etc. for not really doing anything. I feel I was constantly profiled. Slowly I began to notice that the attention dwindled, and now that I am a little older (30) I can pretty much say that I get very little unwanted attention from the police. I still drive modified/loud/fast vehicles, play loud music, etc. I still drive about the same, perhaps I have learned to use a little more discretion than in the past, but I was never all that wild to begin with. Mysteriously no one ever bothers me any more. I can see why the young crowd hates the cops, as I did when I was that age too.

4) Supporters of the police who for the most part think they can do no wrong, and if anyone has a disagreement with/about the police it is their own fault. These are equally as extreme as the "NWA" group mentioned above. This group is arguably the largest, and the most surprising of the bunch to me. I frequent internet car sites and forums and most of these are filled with younger people with fast/modified/loud cars. For reasons mentioned above this crowd probably shouldn't like the cops, or at least I would think not.

Yet many times a user will post about a negative experience with a cop, or ask a question about how to get a break on a traffic ticket, and they will be hit with a barrage of flames telling them to be a man and pay the ticket, admit their mistake, learn to drive, grow up, etc.

This is really wierd to me. On rx7club, we are all there because we like/have these fast, loud sportscars. And there is only one reason to own such a car; not for it's low insurance rates, not for it's reliability or it's gas mileage, and not for it's interior comforts. We own them to go out and play in. To some people that means driving spiritedly, to some it means streetracing, to some it means raising hell on backroads. So, one would expect the rx7 forum owners to have run ins with the cops, and have a general dislike for them because of that.

Yet it seems to be totally the opposite sometimes. There are those that totally sackride the police and reading their posts reminds you of being in church listening to the preacher. Reading what they have to say, you'd be tempted to believe that they strictly abide by speed limits everywhere they drive, signal before changing lanes, honk before passing another car, and come to a full and complete stop at intersections. Of course I find this very hard to believe and honestly I think these people are hypocrites as well. I don't drive wild by any means, but I often practice rolling stops at vacant intersections, speeding 5-10 over the posted limit when safe, not signalling when traffic is light, etc.

Yeah, we've got a line in the local codes and ordinances for one of the towns just north of here that says you're supposed to sound the horn before entering the town square to give cattle a chance to move out of the way. :D

I swa a cop directing traffic once, when the power was out and the stoplights werent working. I asked him if it's true that police officers are public servants, and he told me that yes, this is true.

So I told him I was thirsty, and said "Go get me a glass of ice water"....
