2ndGen.Rocket 09-27-2005, 07:19 PM I still see people claiming they can smoke sportbikes on this forum and on the 7 Club. While there is no doubt that it can be done, let's see exactly what it takes to do so:
The following videos feature a 2001 CBR 600 F4i with exhaust, K&N, and -1 gearing. Chances are good the bike is also running lean with these mods since no tuning was done, so assume that it is also not running at full potential.
Now, here is that bike vs. a 620rwhp Camaro:

Multiple runs Vs. a 540rwhp Kenne Bell Cobra:

Vs. a 10.7 second TransAm:

Vs. a 440rwhp Camaro (That sounds fuckin' serious)

There are a few very fast cars on there that end up taking the bike, but it is damn close.
Point being, unless your putting down near 500+ at the wheels, you aren't going to take any modern 600 or above till 110mph and above
Oh, almost forgot: www.carsvsbikes.com
Supper 09-27-2005, 07:28 PM I smoked a CBR 600 F4 on my XR 650R :bigthumb:
then I got schooled by a ZX10R.
meddle 09-27-2005, 07:33 PM Hahaha put an rx7 trapping mid 120's or higher against some 600 bike. It ain't going to be pretty. I'm tlkaing 60-70ish punches by the way
Alex-7 09-27-2005, 08:06 PM God that Kenne Bell Cobra sounds like a fucking mosquito. I couldn't deal with that.....................................
I could pretty much hump a cobra with a KB on it...

Yeah I was thinking the same thing when I heard it. From outside the car they sound cool, but that would fucking piss me off if I had to listen to it all day.
Badass car though.
What kind of bike do you have 2ndgen?
2ndGen.Rocket 09-27-2005, 08:37 PM That bike in the video, but a 2004 instead of an '01
DSMPOWERED 09-28-2005, 08:19 AM My TSi AWD beats bikes all day long. Vespas, poorly maintained old harleys, 500 pound old guys on goldwings...
My taurus could probably take out a vespa......probably.
Manntis 09-29-2005, 12:42 AM I've seen sportbikes smoke Lotus Esprits. No way would I imagine an RX-7 beating one, unless the rider fell off.

No I don't see it either. As was stated, you need to be putting down a pretty stout 500+ at the wheels to even be in contention with one.

LOL you fuckers smoking angel dust? Compare the trap speeds then compare the car. An average weight FD making 500 to the wheels will trap 136ish. What 600cc street bike can go near that?
jimlab 09-29-2005, 10:30 PM I've seen sportbikes smoke Lotus Esprits. Are they supposed to be fast? :D
ultradef 09-30-2005, 08:38 AM Keep in mind that Camaros, Trans Ams, and Cobras are carrying 800-1000 lbs. more than an FD. I agree that it takes a SERIOUS car to run with a bike though...
2ndGen.Rocket 09-30-2005, 02:28 PM Right, but you guys are proving my point that it takes about 500+ to the wheels to run with a bike. How many FD's do you know of that are putting that down to the ground? Sure as hell isn't your "average" FD...

Lotus Esprit=badass car
jimlab 09-30-2005, 09:52 PM Lotus Esprit=badass carLotus Esprit = Overpriced semi-exotic not able to hold its own against any real sports car and likely to spend more time in the shop than the garage...
The Lotus Esprit is the sports car for girls who want a nice looking accessory to go with their purse. :D
jimlab 09-30-2005, 10:04 PM Bikes consume much of their power just overcoming wind resistance at higher speeds. Small frontal area, but terrible coefficient of drag, especially when you factor in the rider. A bike will dominate from a standing start, obviously, but a ~500-550 RWHP horsepower FD would catch a YZF-R1 at about 1,800 feet and from there on, it's all car. If you want proof, watch the videos of Darius' 240Z with a blown 383 LT1 dominating a stock YZF-R1.
From a rolling start at 60 mph or higher, it's even harder for the bike to overcome a car a similar power to weight ratio.
RoadRaceJosh 09-30-2005, 10:07 PM True enough Jim. My little 1980 Honda 400 twin would scoot right out to 60 MPH, but it would barely crack 90-95 MPH on the top end. Even my slant 6 Duster could beat that bike on the top end.
I really want to see what my LT1 powered FC will do for top end. I have a Sport model so it has the aero package that drops the CD even farther. The engine is stock, but I figure with a little more front air dam I should be good for 140 MPH at least. I'll see what I can do around PIR, but I want to hit one of those open highway races in Nevada.
2ndGen.Rocket 09-30-2005, 10:22 PM Right, higher speeds bikes will get dominated by simple aerodynamics. However up until 110, a bike will generally crush all but the fastest cars around.
240Z with a blown 383 LT1
Yeah! That's what I'm talking about, bigblock + blower = f-16 acceleration for us peasants who have to live with the gators!
Lol
Cosby 10-01-2005, 02:33 AM I've beaten plenty of bikes with the fd, t2 and 3 rotor

I have the entire DVD of Darius' 240 running against YZF's. All I was trying to prove with those videos is that your average FD or any car for that matter that's putting down 350-400 to the wheels is not smoking sportbikes left and right.

I guess the rather large amount of vitories Lotus had in Grand Prix from the late 50's to the 90's didn't mean shit to that car. 12.7 in the quarter? pssh, my TII does that with 45psi of compression on the front rotor.
