It's always nice to hear what people across the way are drinking. I always enjoy something new when I get a chance to drink. Throw something up that you enjoy. Here are a few of my favorites:

-Einbecker Urbock
-Lowenbrau
-Weltenburger Urtyp Hell
-Stone Bastard Ale/IPA
-Goose Island Honker's Ale
-Schlafly Oatmeal Stout

If you're not a beer drinker, throw a wine/spirit selection up. :bigthumb:

Dogfish head IPA's
Red Hook IPA
Sierra Nevada pale ale
Victory Hop Devil
Boulevard Pale ale

All time favorites.

I also really like Becks, Pilsner urquell etc. when it's hot out. Not a Heineken fan at all though.

Next week, I'll be brewing a IPA, sortly after that I'll be doing five gallons of something, not sure if I want a meade or an ale.... maybe lager... who knows?

As for drinking, I'm not right now. After the last time I got drunk, I had to put myself on hold for 6 weeks.

Vert8813B
02-28-2008, 03:45 PM
I can't even get drunk anymore. i drink and drink and drink and either just get tired or get an upset stomach. I think my alcohol tolerance is too high. :-\

Smithwicks(pronounced smiddicks). Made by Guinness, its a red ale. Fuck it's so good I'm going to get one now.

02-28-2008, 04:33 PM
Good call Alex on the Boulevard. I also had a beer called Moose Knuckle. It tasted like soy sauce and chocolate. It wasn't half bad, but it was a test brew; sort of how Blue Moon and Boulevard started out.

Am I the only one that thinks Guinness is only good for one thing: Car Bombs?

Alex-7
02-28-2008, 04:37 PM
Boulevard's real big here around Kansas City.

GAWD I love some fucking car bombs.

I just left STL after living there for 6 years. People love that stuff out there. I really started digging the unfiltered wheat. Isn't KC where it's based out of?

Alex-7
02-28-2008, 04:45 PM
Yep, KC.

They do drink for free tours of the brewery but I'm yet to go.

Archie's8
02-28-2008, 04:51 PM
If you ever get a chance, go to the Bud factory in STL. The tour is free and you're give 3 free "samples". We had to clear our table of glasses... the trick is to wait until they switch servers. $$$$$$$$$$$$

Alex-7
02-28-2008, 04:53 PM
LOL.

I've done that tour. didn't really tie one on though.....

I like STL.

You guys dont know what you're missing, black and tans, half and half's, blacksmiths. Go back to your bud lights. Don't make me find the toucan guinness bird.

I found a good reason why Guinness is just damn cool:

Guinness has been dispensed in hospitals, correct?
Yes. In England, post-operative patients used to be given Guinness, as were blood donors. Sadly, this is no longer the case in England. In Ireland, Guinness is still made available to blood donors and stomach and intestinal post-operative patients. Guinness is known to be high in iron content.

I live down the street from Great Lakes Brewery so I always have great fresh seasonals on hand.

Session Beers:
Red Stripe (by the pint bottle)
Moosehead (I've always liked it more than Stella, most of my friends dissagree)
Yeah they're cheap macro lagers, but at least they're good macro lagers
Sierra Nevada IPA
When I'm with the RX-7 guys its Killians

My dinner beers:
Heavy Seas Winter Storm
Brooklyn Brewery Dark Chocolate Stout (gets ya drunk fast!)
Abita Turbodog
Guinness Extra Stout (for the irish car bombs, as well)
Samuel Smith's Imperial Stout
Anything Great Lakes

and that's really all I do regularly. Occasionally I'll have something weird and then forget about it.

Have any of you guys had Corsendonk Brown Ale before? It's high dollar stuff, but it's damn tasty. It's been awhile since I've had one, but if I remember correctly it's brewed with raisins and chocolate.

I found a good reason why Guinness is just damn cool:

Dude, did you see my list of beers at the top? I'd hardly qualify as a typical "Bud Light" drinker.

Guinness is okay, but there are better choices for B/T and H/H. To be honest, people who don't know shit about beer talk Guinness up like it's the greatest, but most of the time it fails. It's not bad, but in STL the frat boys tried to invade all the good spots and "act" like they know about beer. You can always spot them by the signature 'cringe' downing their Guinness and their faint cries for Golden Tee. :peace:

Besides, Bud at the factory and Bud on the shelf are totally different. It's like drinking Natty Ice and then your Guinness. No comparison!

No. Local beer place here has mix and match 6 packs though so if they have it I'll pick it up.

I seriously doubt you'll find it in a mix and match pack. It's got a higher alcohol content than most beers and, like I said, it's kind of high dollar stuff. I haven't bought any for a while now, but when I was drinking it it came in 4 packs or singles only. The bottles are also larger that your "normal" beer. Not 40 oz. style, but more than 12 oz.

I don't fancy myself as a beer connoisseur, but I know what I like. I went through a dark beer stage when I was younger and discovered Corsendonk to be on the top of my list of quality beers. I never liked Guinness much not due to the taste so much as due to the fact that I could drink one Guinness and my stomach felt like I had just ate a huge ribeye with all the fixins'. Corensonk isn't that heavy to me so I was able to enjoy a few of them before I had to switch to something lighter.

On a side note, I noticed that no one mentioned the New Belgium brewery. With all the college guys on this forum I figured at least one of you would mention Fat Tire or Sunshine Wheat.........

By the looks of it I will probably be the only one that likes it, but I find Black Dog's Honey Raspberry ale to be extremely tasty also.

Vert8813B
02-29-2008, 09:05 AM
I tried this Raspberry beer a few months back. It was in a bottle that had a old fashioned baseball player on the label and the cap resembled a baseball with the stitches and such. It was mightily delicious.

Fat Tire is pretty good. I'm not a fan of it in a bottle, but tap is pretty tasty. As for Cornesonk, it probably comes in a 16.9oz bottle/500mL bottle.

As for fruit beer, if you like lemon try a "Raddler" style beer. It's brewed with half lager-half lemon soda. You can actually drink it when you're thirsty. Krombacher is the only style that I really dig. It's a good thing to have around for a beach day and/or the women your life.

Herschel
02-29-2008, 04:45 PM
These days I like to drink Corona with real limes during the hot days. It's not heavy at all and is actually quite refreshing whilst floating in teh pool. And I'm not a big fan of lemon anything really so lemon beers don't appeal to me at all.

Trader Joe's, as in organic?

Nope, don't think so. It's a bottle-conditioned beer I got in Cleveland.

It is a brown Belgian-style ale of great distinction produced by traditional top fermentation resulting in a rich and full-bodied flavor.

he champagne like effervescence and smooth mouth feel are the result of a natural secondary fermentation the bottle obtained by the use of a carefully selected yeast culture.

It is characterized by a deep amber color topped by a rich head of foam. The prominent flavor of premium malts is perfectly balanced by a combination of three European hops and four distinctive spices.

You know what? This sounds lame, but it was actually a good idea. I joined a "Beer of the Month" club probably 2-3 years ago. You usually see them in airline magazines (I joined after a flight to Detroit). They send you a different beer every month, with ordering information to go along with it if you liked it. Great way to try different stuff too. You can even fill out a survey that narrows down your tastes and they will send stuff in the same "genre" of beer.

Everything I'm reading points to the use of FedEx, UPS, or DHL, but NOT USPS.

Vert8813B
03-06-2008, 03:01 PM
As per tofuball, I checked out a link at wine.woot.com and it said it's legal to recieve wine in NY. I'm going to bubble-wrap it and stuff it in a bag then box it probably. To make sure it doesn't break and if it does (hopefully not) they don't get a whiff of the brewski. From what I have heard, it is not formally illegal with UPS or Fedex, but it is with the USPS. Many places don't recommend that you advertise that it is beer though. They recommend you create an account online and do it that way to print the label etc.

I'm opening one tonight dammit. I was going to drink one last night. I left my bottle opener in my trunk, so i take the beer outside, set it on top of the car, open the trunk get the bottle opener shut the trunk and the beer fell off the car. BUT the bottle didnt break, but that was the only one I had cooled.

Anyone like the beers they got?

I haven't got mine yet, and no word as to if the person that I sent to actually liked them or not

I did send a spotted cow! So good. I couldn't remember what I all sent.

SOme of the ones I sent you are sorta bitter on the back side. They are an up and coming brewery.

I thought the ones Alex sent me were utterly fucking awesome for a domestic unfiltered Wheat. Samuel Adam's Hefeweizen tastes like 86 years of failure...that and shit.

I had the strawberry (delicious), the blonde (I love blondes), the Boddingtons (in the can, alright, I think glass woulda been better), and tonight I had the Double Bock (damn fine beer).

So far, so good.
