In an attempt to make my quota of 2 threads per month, I present this thread.
What do you guys think so far? From an outside perspective, he seems a lot like the old boss but in a fancier package.
Do you believe that he's going to turn the economy around?
Do you think that he's just a puppet to usher in the advancement of globalization?
Think his ears are too big?
What are your thoughts?

1revnrex 03-28-2009, 05:12 PM You want my opinion? Im tired of seeing him OKing money left and right for tired shit that cant be fixed and must be re-thought and re-structured.
NewsFlash: American Car Companies are not willing to change how and what they build.
Sure they may cancel a few vehicle such as Chrysler dropping the Aspen, The Durango and the PT Cruiser but is that going to save the company. NO. They must focus on providing greener solutions and cheaper alternatives for buyers. It wont happen though, this country is stuck on fucked and its nothing against Obama but the REAL powers that be arent willing to change.
Banks. Where do we start?
Until lending starts again NOTHING IN THIS COUNTRY WILL CHANGE. You cant build without money. You cant purchase vehicles/homes/hookers without money. Until the fat cats shit or get off the pot as far as lending goes this country is high centered and spinning the wheels going NOWHERE fast. Why is Obama not pressuring the banks more? Why is Geithner still running the Treasury and why was Obama quoted saying he wouldnt accept his resignation? Our Government has turned into the most crooked, shady organization and who do we have running it now? A Chicago politician.
Good Job America.

I think that the point which you are missing here, is that green, economically-friendly, "hybird" cars, are gay.
Who wants to putter around in a Kia when you drive over one in Detroit muscle?

I know right? I mean who wants to live in a sucessful economy when you can roll around in a Hemi Charger with a secondary fiananced loan at 27%?

You are speaking as a car enthusiast. I think most Americans care about name brand and luxury rather than muscle.
1revnrex 03-28-2009, 05:44 PM Im in the stack money mode right now. Stock market is shit. Jobs are shit. If you can employ people making an affordable fuel efficient car in the US why not do it? You dont even have to sacrifice power. Ford has done it before, they made a turbo Mustang in the 80's and who can forget the Ford Escort Cosworth? Why not do it now? Instead of taking bailouts to prop up the old corpse that is our Auto Industry, pull the plug and put the money to good use and change with the times.

Because millions of jobs would be lost. It's one thing to say "fuck you" to the auto companys that dug themselves into their own mess, but to let them go completely under would only make things worse. These assembly line workers have very little in the way of transferable skills. Take away their jobs and their lofty pay cheques and they are fucked. Think Flint Michigan.
Don't get me wrong, I couldn't care less about these people. While I was in school working towards an education, they were get paid $45/hour, but if the manufacturing sector continues to erode, then things are liable to get a lot worse.
I say, rather than throwing billions of dollars at these companies (which is far more than their stocks are worth) the government simply aquires the company itself. That way, when things rebound (and they will, eventually) all profits will go back to the Fed (and indirectly, the American people).
Is it a slam dunk? No. Is it socialism? Sort of, but we're only a stone's throw away from that already.
czarofzar 03-28-2009, 05:59 PM We can say some pasts are irrelevant to mention once the administration took over. Looks like he is trying to free up a log jam in the financial sector by allowing emphasis on Green to flow through. This shows control and perhaps the Banks sensed it with the gains we have seen last week.
1revnrex 03-28-2009, 06:06 PM lol @ gains
Being back in the 7000's isnt remarkable.
czarofzar 03-28-2009, 06:08 PM aw shucks it is what it is. im hopful that itll keep going up. if not, it wont be too long until I see the light.
Tofuball 03-28-2009, 06:12 PM I think Obama stands almost point for point against every single thing I believe in.
Side Note: If you want American car companies to come back, make room for new companies: scale back the mandatory crash testing and reduce emissions standards, starting with the catalytic converter.

I couldnt agree more. I make a choice to drive an FB and have seen what they look like after a wreck. I think as long as the consumer knows the risk of the vehicle it should be up to the consumer and not the gov to tell me what I can and cannot drive.

I watched about a half hour of that a couple of weeks ago. Does it ever cross the threshold of speculative bullshit?
$100T2 03-29-2009, 05:58 PM I don't know. I didn't get through more than 5 minutes of it.

I just got a call from the Ron Paul campaign today. I'll be donating what little money I have. Just because the elections are over doesn't mean the fight is.
