fsae_alum 07-20-2006, 12:34 AM So have you heard that in Texas they have this indepent guy running for governor by the name of Kinky Friedman? I'm fckn serious about this....that is his actual name and he just collected enough signatures to go on the ballot. It's actually pretty weird because the guy is rather ecletic and had a Folk Band at one time called "Kinky Friedman and the Texas Jew Boys". They performed all of these songs that made fun of every ethnic group and monority out there. The guy used to be a huge drug addict (12 years ago)and openly admits it. It's different for a change. Instead of telling people what they want to hear, he is stating exactly who he is and his official campaign motto is "Why the hell not?" You know....I'm not partial to the guy but it's kind of refreshing and different. Anybody heard of this guy? Comments? DeRFmAn 07-20-2006, 01:27 AM Yes. I posted some schitt in the joke thread. Met the guy he seems nice. My woman is reading his 2 books. But yeah man he is a refreshing alternative to the regular morons running for gov. But I doubt he is going to win. I'm still gonna vote for him tho. hellcat 07-21-2006, 01:22 AM Actually, his real name is Richard "Kinky" Friedman. He acquired the nickname "Kinky" while attending the University of Texas at Austin due to his violently curly hair. Among his other accomplishments listed above, he also founded the Utopia Animal Rescue Ranch in Utopia, TX. He's an avid animal lover. When he decided to found the ranch, his "cousin" nancy (no relation) and a friend went and got all the dogs from all the pounds in neighboring cities such as Kerrivlle, etc (can't remember all of them). They now live in a sprawling ranch where they receive star treatment and are available for adoption. He's received funding for the ranch from the likes of Willie Nelson and even Laura Bush. Kinky actually has a great platform for Texas. He wants to raise wages for firemen, policemen, and teachers. He wants to rid us of the dreaded TAKS test, which prevents teachers from actually imparting useful knowledge upon young minds and has them teaching toward a test every year. He wants to mandate prayer in schools, which I'm not necessarily for, but if it does happen, not only does it give those interested an opportunity to pray, but it encourages tolerance at a young age, which I'm very much for. Kinky tells it like it is. He's a very good man, and he gives a shit about the state. We could certainly use the compassion. Noone even thought he was going to make it on the ballot, but he did it. It required 45,540 signatures in about a month's time, and Kinky got over 100,000 valid signatures. I think it could seriously happen for him, if people get off their asses and vote November 7. I'll sure as hell be there. fsae_alum 07-21-2006, 12:18 PM you know.....if I lived in texas I'd probably vote for him. The thing that he really has going for him is that he tells it like it is. He's a no-bullshit kind of guy and just like everybody else, he's tired of being told by the regular politicians what he wants to hear. He seems liek somebody you can trust, which is more than I can say for most politicians. He doesn't fit the "lesser of two evils" that political voting has becoem as of late. I wish him the best of luck and like he says, he can't screw it up anymore than it already is. hellcat 07-21-2006, 09:29 PM You are quite right, and that is something that most people love about the Kinkster. We're all tired of the bullshit, and he neither subscribes to nor feeds it to us. He is genuinely a good person, which is hard to find in today's world. He refers to the other two parties as the Crips and the Bloods, by the way, lol. I'm not sure if it was mentioned already or not, but he had quite the career (albeit a bit short lived) as a mystery novelist. Right now I'm in the middle of "Meanwhile, Back at the Ranch" which is a great read. I highly recommend his stuff. It's fairly lighthearted, a great read especially if you're a cat person. |
