I have a linksys wireless-b model: befw11s4

Here's the weired problem. At home this damn thing stoped working not matter how much I reset it. There is no internet connection at all. However I can still go to the router web page (192.168.1.1) and configure it. I can even ping the router and other computers connected (wired) to the router but not anything else. I decided to bring it work to test it out and it ended up working just great.

How does it not work at home but works at my work?! :ar:

Weired theory:
My internet service provider is Comcast. Could it be possible that they are blocking or restricting traffic to the router? Has there been similar cases?

It could be your ISP. I've had a similar problem with Charter Communications. It'd be assigning me this weird IP address, something like 188.x.x.x, etc., so I couldn't access the internet, but I was seeing all my networked devices, so I knew it had to be the ISP. I unplugged the Cable Modem for a little while, and apparently it reset itself and gave me my usual 68.x.x.x address.

In short, try that and see if that works out.

Answer the following...

Can a single computer work with the modem if you hook the modem directly to it bypassing the home network?

If you can, you've just located the problem.... The router.
If you can't.... you've just located the problem.... Your isp.

Post results.

If you can access outside of your home network with the modem hooked directly to a single computer. Switch the cables to verify that one isn't bad. If that doesn't bring good results, power it all off for an hour, turn the modem on, then the router, then the computers.

Check your router to see if it's getting the DHCP passed out to it from the isp.

just giving an update, it's the router. I think all I needed to do was turn if off for a couple of minutes/hours. It works fine now...But I just decided to replace the router so shit (hopefully) won't happen again.

Seriously for home use... just use a hub instead of a router...

I don't think I would have replaced it....I have issues all the time with my cable company/cable modem. When ever I am downloading anything for more then 24 hours my connection drops and everything needs to be reset. More then likely it is your ISP

hub requires the purchase of additional ips
