I don't even listen to music when i go out unless it's in a car. I see people on head-fi carrying giant fanny packs jsut for their cables, amp, and ipod.... Don't really see the point in that and it looks stupid IMO.

Hard for me to do that since I'm walking everywhere on a college campus. I always have a backpack on, so its not like space is an issue.

1) What headphone?Like I said, I don't know. Those AKG's I bought last summer shit the bed this morning. They had been buzzing for a while in the left ear with bass (driver getting loose) and the cables caught on a door on my way out of the Student Union and ripped the headphones apart. For now, just some $20 ear canal ones. Thinking about a set of these (http://www.headphone.com/products/headphones/in-ear-monitor/shure-e4c.php) or maybe some custom fit ones eventually.

2) Budget?$100-$200 depending on features. Things can bend a bit if its something I like.

3) What music do you listen to?Everything. Literally. Mostly movie scores and instrumental lately.

4) How do you like your music?I like to hear it ;) In other words, loud enough to hear it over the top of background noise but not so loud as to make my ears bleed.

5) How do you like the sound of your music?Let me put it this way, when I was into car stereos I spent thousands trying to get my pickup to sound clean and balanced. I prefer a little warmer sound quality, good bass response and resonance. The highs aren't really that important since I have a tonal shift of my hearing anyway and can't hear some of the high ranges (gotta love working in gas plants). So in short, lots of good bass and decent mids with passable highs.

6) Would you want a DIY?
nah. Would rather pay a few bucks to have it in hand ASAP unless there are cheap and simple kits that look clean when finished. Reason being: I can't solder for shit.

Not that i can think of. 9/10 i buy used because they're just as good and they're a hell lot cheaper than new. What's the point of buying new? As long as you buy form a person with good feedbacks, you're set. I never had a problem.

I think you should go with a decent cheap portable amp first (under 100 dollars). See if you like it first. Go step by step.
