You guys know any good places to pick up the combo for a fair price. Ebay only seems to have an LS6 forsale right now for a small 7500$.

junkyards/etc are good, the motors are common and cheap.

Sometimes you can buy a whole wrecked camaro for less than the engine/trans is worth.

Not sure about the T56 for cheap, but a friend of mine bought a Buick Roadmaster for $500, and it has an LS1.

Ummm... You're talking about the best performance MASS PRODUCTION motor/tranny combo ever... they won't come really cheap.... but bying locally from people not internet saavy is the way to find them cheapER.

Please, don't wait such a beast on some shitty FC either... if it isn't going in an fbody, vette, or FD... leave it alone.

Well for the cost of the T2 swap into my vert with the same power level as a stock LS1 would cost more than the LS1 swap and have less tourqe

Don't dump money into an fc... they're all around suckage and not worth it... I really think a turbo for a honda is a better investment... at least you can get most of your money back.

FC's are shitboxes.

Wow, bitter much?

How in the world could you argue that an F-body would be a better car?

FC > F-body.

Everyone knows that.

FC > pretty much everything. Great chassis. Nice interior (well if you have a 10AE or S5 TII anyways)

while I really doubt an LS1 will ever be in my FC, a T56 sure as hell will be soon. Hopefully I don't break those.

now cars not to waste money on, FD is right at the top of my list. :P

RIght now my main concern is getting the vert road legal. I got the car after it sat for 4 years on a brand new rebuild, and apparently that was to long. It runs fine but the compression numbers are a lil low. THey started strong in the 110 range but now i am in the 90s so I am fearing the worse, and this is just from driving around the shop.

I was going to do a full T2 swap but, after watching a few vids and taking a ride in a SBC fc i must have some tourqe in my diet, and besides its easier on my wallet.

I will be using the granny speed shop conversion kit with what ever motor I end up getting.

I wanna go fast.

I would not be too concerned about 90psi numbers, especially PRE-breakin.

give it a few thousand miles before you give up on it.

motors can sit pratctically forever if they've never been run, as long as they stay dry. There should be so much pre-lube in there that nothing will rust or dry out.

fcdrifter13
03-24-2007, 11:21 AM
It went through its breakthough before it sat. I built the motor thats in it and drove it the full 1300 miles for the breakin.

Was that suppose to be a joke?

Boo-hoo fc bashing boo-hoo

Was that suppose to be a joke?

I got my ls1/t56 from clevland pick-a-part...$3500 complete and tested. Probably not the cheapest option, but they have tons of wrecked LSX cars, and if I wanted a no BS pullout and wanted it now, I would give them a call.

Someone backs a Roadmaster into a tree. Rather than go through the hassle of scrapping it they sell it for $500. Cheap and easy LS1, as long as you don't mind it being attached to a slushbox.

I'm not doubting that someone bought a wrecked buick roadmaster for $500. LS1s weren't introduced until the 97 model year in the corvette and make about double the power of the old small block that came in the roadmaster while being at least 100lbs lighter.

Huh, I just looked it up and you're right. I could have sworn the late model Roadmaster was an LS1...

Roots blower.

Got the cash? Lysholm. ;)

Terrh
03-27-2007, 10:04 PM
how much more money would a lysholm or roots cost me though.

And how much more would it cost to have INSTANT response and INSTANT torque at 1200rpm?

I have a fast wankel car too, but torque is far more fun for tooling around town.

Funny, thats the opposite of my philosophy. I like having little torque so I can just cruise around without any drama, and a lot of power so I can step into it and go if I want to on the freeway.

Cost comparison for me.

T2 engine and trans 1600$ from importer
Rebuild 1000$ give or take
T2 rear diff with axels and such 500$
And another 1000$ give or take to get it all running in my vert

Total on stock power levels 4100$

LS1 T56 cost (average) 3500$
T2 rear diff and such 500$
Grannys speed shop conversion kit 1200$
1000$ give or take to get it running

Total cost on stock power 6200$

THen you add costs of modding the T2 to make to same power as the LS1 and starts to climb, and If I wanted to add more power to the LS1 i could just add a set of heads and a cam.

Except Jimlab, because I've yet to hear that that project runs. Unless I missed something.
