Queen 10-27-2008, 10:15 PM Recommend some good songwriters (specifically lyrics-wise).. I'm getting sick of most of my music. I'm fairly flexible on the genre wotnartd 10-27-2008, 10:18 PM Nine Inch Nails (Reznor does a great job at telling stories through music) Pink Floyd (c'mon) Queen 10-27-2008, 10:22 PM what're some good songs? I've only heard a couple from both of those Ark2 10-27-2008, 10:32 PM Nine Inch Nails: I'm Looking Forward To Joining You, Finally As black as the night can get Everything is safer now There's always a way to forget Once you learn to find a way how In the blur of serenity Where did everything get lost? The flowers of naivete Buried in a layer of frost The smell of sunshine I remember sometimes Thought he had it all before they called his bluff Found out that his skin just wasn't thick enough Wanted to go back to how it was before Thought he lost everything Then he lost a whole lot more A fool's devotion Swallowed up in empty space The tears of regret Frozen to the side of his face The smell of sunshine I remember sometimes I've done all I can do Could I please come with you? Sweet smell of sunshine I remember sometimes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDQjbWMQWhY In This Twilight watch the sun, as it crawls across a final time and it feels like, like it was a friend. it is watching us, and the world we set on fire do you wonder, if it feels the same? and the sky is filled with light can you see it? all the black is really white if you believe it as your time is running out let me take away your doubt you can find a better a place in this twilight dust to dust, ashes in your hair remind me what it feels like and I won't feel again night descends could I have been a better person if I could only do it all again and the sky is filled with light can you see it? all the black is really white if you believe it and the longing that you feel you know none of this real you will find a better a place in this twilight http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qz_mwxgzCiw The audio quality isn't the best but you get the idea. wotnartd 10-27-2008, 10:33 PM As far as NIN, I'd start with the Good Soldier on Year Zero, but pretty much the whole Year Zero is just awesome. And for Floyd... anything and EVERYTHING, especially Animals, Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall.... all of them. 1revnrex 10-28-2008, 02:59 AM The Doors, anything by them. oakback 10-28-2008, 07:45 AM The Avett Brothers DarkAngelKamui 10-28-2008, 08:04 AM Barry Manilow Queen 10-28-2008, 07:21 PM k I'll look into these when I have a bit more free time, thanks! Ark2 10-28-2008, 08:22 PM NIN sucks....very dark lyrics, good if you want to off yourself or become bitter I suppose You already know all Police/Sting's stuff, but he is one of my favorites, Neil Peart with Rush is another one, but women don't typically dig Rush because of Geddy's voice...I don't care for Pink Floyd's older stuff, but "Division Bell" (their last one) is a stand-out CD I'll think of some others, asking this crowd is a waste of time Rush = stupid Canadian fantasy shit Ark2 10-28-2008, 08:27 PM She probably doesn't like gay lyrics about spiral staircases in space either, so Rush might not be a good choice. Ark2 10-28-2008, 08:30 PM If I were to tell you that NIN's lyrics were insightful, would you not ignore that as well? Read the one's that I've posted and tell me that that's the work of a "blithering cokehead". Ark2 10-28-2008, 08:40 PM Here ya go, dark and twisted, just for you Kind of hard Hard to see When you crawl On your hands and your knees With your face In the trough Wait your turn While they finish you off Don’t know when it started Don’t know how Should have found out Should have happened by now Got these lines On my face After all this time And i still haven’t found my place I jump from every rooftop So high, so far to fall I feel a million miles away I don’t feel any thing at all I wake up On the floor Start it up again Like it matters anymore I don’t know If it does Is this really all That there ever was? Put the gun In my mouth Close your eyes Blow my fucking brains out Pretty patterns On the floor That’s enough for you But i still need more I jump from every rooftop So high so far to fall I feel a million miles away I don’t feel any thing at all http://www.nin.com/1000000.html Ark2 10-28-2008, 08:44 PM his stuff is very dark and twisted lyrics/music transport the mind, at least they do for me...every time I hear a NIN track, all I can think of is some dark club on a dirty street somewhere, there's nothing good there...I take music pretty seriously, I hone in on whatever is playing wherever I am, at the mall, restaurants, whereever, and if it gets on my nerves, it literally becomes nails on a chalkboard if I had to work out to the crap they play at the gym I'd never get anything done See, you say stuff like this and then I start to think, "well, maybe he's got a point there*" but then I remember how you say that you like to listen to Slayer. Their lyrics are shit, their lead singer is tone deaf and the rest of the band does nothing but beat the shit out of their instruments (props to the drummer though). Kinda makes me think that you just pull out this line of reasoning only when it pertains to something that you do not like. *not really. Ark2 10-28-2008, 08:50 PM a little Dire Straits...slow in the beginning, but a great song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJXuL3_WCYc You might add slow in the middle, end, and the endless echo that reverberates in your brain after listening to that snoozer. NIN rules!!! Ark2 10-28-2008, 08:51 PM usual depressing stuff! If you watched the video though, you gotta admit that they rock live. Ark2 10-28-2008, 08:53 PM Yeah, sorry to jack the thread as well (but yzf started it!). wotnartd 10-28-2008, 08:56 PM Rush = stupid Canadian fantasy shit Nobody's Hero? C'mon, it's a masterpiece. Ark2 10-28-2008, 08:57 PM haha, I like some of their stuff, but their lyrics are gay Queen 10-28-2008, 09:43 PM you two bicker like a married couple Ark2 10-28-2008, 09:50 PM yzf provokes me and I play into it. Then I own him with my superior taste in music ;) 1revnrex 10-28-2008, 10:28 PM Rush seriously blows, I imagine these guys jamming out to them at a LAN party. http://www.fugly.com/p/88f3bfc60d53118c10d6 Ark2 10-28-2008, 10:38 PM  win czarofzar 10-29-2008, 06:30 AM finally, someone here shares my feelings about rush....overrated band czarofzar 10-29-2008, 10:57 AM like rush, one hit wonders like Kansas comes to mind in dust in the wind. 1revnrex 10-29-2008, 01:31 PM I dunno, maybe I could appreciate it more if Geddy Lee's voice didn't turn my stomach like the thought of a catshit sandwhich. Oh and 2112 was they gayest thing I have ever heard, I mean seriously they are great musicians but how can someone get past this? In the year 2062, a galaxy-wide war results in the union of all planets under the rule of the Red Star of the Solar Federation. The world is controlled by the Priests of the Temples of Syrinx, who determine the content of all reading matter, songs, pictures - every facet of life during the year 2112 ("The Temples of Syrinx"). A man discovers a guitar (ancient miracle) and learns to play new, different music from what he has ever heard. When he goes to present this to the priests of the Temples, they destroy the guitar. He goes into hiding and dreams of music; upon awakening he becomes severely depressed and commits suicide after a few more days in hiding. As he dies, another planetary battle begins ("Grand Finale") resulting in the (perhaps deliberately) ambiguous ending "Attention all planets of the Solar Federation: We have assumed control." (This spoken section was created by Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson reportedly "messing around with a tape recorder".) On the album, Neil Peart credits "With acknowledgment to the genius of Ayn Rand." Rand, a Russian-born American novelist and Objectivist philosopher, wrote a novella entitled Anthem (itself the title of another Rush song, from the album Fly By Night) from which Peart borrowed the broad strokes of the plot. Ark2 10-29-2008, 06:25 PM btw, stereotypes abound....it's funny because a guy I used to know at Gold's Gym in Michigan who was a hardcore bodybuilder (smart guy with a good career and plenty of money, early 30s), could easily bench 450 pounds and squat who knows what...the last guy you would expect to be a Rush fan, right? he was a HUGE fan..when I told him I didn't like "Hold Your Fire" he basically rebuked me for not giving it a chance Rush fans are a pretty intelligent and eclectic group, and intensely loyal...not the Tom Sawyer potheads, the real fans he was a huge something... 1revnrex 10-29-2008, 06:37 PM I love how I am "mindless" because I dont listen to Rush. 1revnrex 10-29-2008, 06:38 PM he was a huge something... :gay2: czarofzar 10-29-2008, 07:28 PM I dunno, maybe I could appreciate it more if Geddy Lee's voice didn't turn my stomach like the thought of a catshit sandwhich. ++++++1 his voice is horrible. I don't know exactly where you are going with this Mark. Rush has good lyrics like any other bands. Rush has a great fucking band too but was out matched in all areas even in their era. Like rev said, rush weakness was their front man with gay features and a shitty cat scratch voice. Its a wonder you and your boys can sit through that god awful noise. even my boys in Detroit visualize playing their music, only to discard the voice and words. The pot didnt help Rush one bit http://media.ebaumsworld.com/picture/SpoooooN/bigassjoint.jpg Ark2 10-29-2008, 08:37 PM more like one dimensional "taste" NIN sucks serious wind....so does Pantera I've only seen one dimension from you, despite your claims to the contrary. Lately I've been on a huge Clutch kick. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ia0HUBWdDkU Thats probably one of the best Clutch songs IMO. I see that lantern trimmed low burning in our home. And though I feel like crying, I swear tonight, I'll cry no more. How many times have I prayed That I would get lost along the way? Dream with the feathers of angels stuffed beneath your head. The regulator's swinging pendulum. Come with me and walk the longest mile. Is his wallet leather? Is his wallet fat? For not a year later it's got you lying on your back. You should have closed your windows and got another dog. You should have chained up all the doors and switched up all the locks. And how many times have I prayed The angels would speed me away. Dream with the feathers of angels stuffed beneath your head. The regulator's swinging pendulum. Come with me and walk the longest mile. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2eepsCXpLY4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdYKTek5N1Q http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kx6FV2qR2TY ^album version is -much- better though... wotnartd 11-20-2008, 02:54 PM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrlvOYUay_4 Dirty little secret, Dirty little lies. Say your prayers and comb your hair, Save your soul tonight. Drift among the faithful, Bury your desires. Aberrations fill your head, You need a place to hide And I am... Do you remember me? And the kid I used to be? Do you remember me? Chorus: When your world's come crashing down I want to relive. (Your god ain't looking down on me!) I'm not Jesus, Jesus wasn't there! You confess it all away, But it's only shit to me (Your god ain't looking down on me!) I'm not Jesus, I will not forgive! No I won't! No I won't. I thought you were a good man, I thought you talked to god. You hippocratic, messianic, And child abusing-turned-satanic. Do you remember me? Do you remember me? And the kid I used to be? Do you remember? Do you remember? Chorus: When your own world comes undone, Let me be the one to say: (Your god ain't looking down on me!) "I'm not Jesus, You can't run away!" And the innocence you spoiled Found a way to live. (Your god ain't looking down on me!) I'm not Jesus I will not forgive! I won't forgive. I won't do whatever you want to. I won't forgive. I won't do whatever you want to. Do you remember me? And the kid I used to be? Not the same as I used to be! Oh, do you remember me? Nooooooo! Chorus: When your world's come crashing down, I want to relive (Your god ain't looking down on me!) I'm not Jesus, Jesus wasn't there! You confess it all away, But it's only shit to me! (Your god ain't looking down on me!) I'm not Jesus, I will not, I'm not Jesus, I will not forgive! Oh, I will not forgive, yeahyeah! No, I will not forgive! Ark2 11-20-2008, 04:35 PM I like this one too. Not really much there lyrically, but.... I Don't Care http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uu9uxGP5nL0&feature=channel wotnartd 11-21-2008, 07:12 AM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1BiNIav8Y4 Bound to your side and trapped in silence Just a possession Is this sex or only violence That feeds your obsession? You send me to a broken state Where I can take the pain Just long enough That I am numb That I just disappear So go on, infect me Go on and scare me to death Tell me I asked for it Tell me I'll never forget You could give me anything but love Anything but love Does it feel good tonight? Hurt me with nothing Some sort of sick satisfaction You Get from my f**king Oh stripped down to my naked core The darkest corners of my mind are yours That's where you live That's where you breathe So go on, infect me Go on and scare me to death Dare me to leave you Tell me I'd never forget You could give me anything but love Anything but love Without any faith Without any light Condemn me to live Condemn me to lie Inside I am dead So go on, infect me Go on and scare me to death I'll be the victim You'll be the voice in my head You could give me anything but love Anything but love Anything but love Anything but love Queen 11-22-2008, 12:12 PM I'm rather impressed with that song, it isn't the Fiona Apple I remember listening to way back when. That entire album is incredible; it's called Tidal.. tbh a good deal of it is very clearly from the perspective of a female, but it's great nonetheless ;p my other favorite song off of it is slightly "uplifting" I suppose.. Pale September Pale September, I wore the time like a dress that year The autumn days swung soft around me, like cotton on my skin But as the embers of the summer lost their breath and disappeared My heart went cold and only hollow rhythms resounded from within But then he rose, brilliant as the moon in full And sank in the burrows of my keep And all my armor falling down, in a pile at my feet And my winter giving way to warm, as I'm singing him to sleep He goes along just as a water lily Gentle on the surface of his thoughts his body floats Unweighed down by passion or intensity Yet unaware of the depth upon which he coasts And he finds a home in me For what misfortune sows, he knows my touch will reap And all my armor failing down, in a pile at my feet And my winter giving way to warm, as I'm singing him to sleep All my armor falling down, in a pile at my feet And my winter giving way to warm, as I'm singing him to sleep czarofzar 11-22-2008, 01:26 PM Pale September Pale September, I wore the time like a dress that year The autumn days swung soft around me, like cotton on my skin But as the embers of the summer lost their breath and disappeared My heart went cold and only hollow rhythms resounded from within But then he rose, brilliant as the moon in full And sank in the burrows of my keep And all my armor falling down, in a pile at my feet And my winter giving way to warm, as I'm singing him to sleep He goes along just as a water lily Gentle on the surface of his thoughts his body floats Unweighed down by passion or intensity Yet unaware of the depth upon which he coasts And he finds a home in me For what misfortune sows, he knows my touch will reap And all my armor failing down, in a pile at my feet And my winter giving way to warm, as I'm singing him to sleep All my armor falling down, in a pile at my feet And my winter giving way to warm, as I'm singing him to sleep sweet words. def not from you. Ark2 11-22-2008, 01:58 PM *sigh* no wonder people who listen to this crap are on a road to nowhere Define "on the road to nowhere". Don't mean to sound like a pompus asshole, but I'd bet good money that I do much better than you careerwise. czarofzar 11-22-2008, 02:56 PM Music is a such a powerful thing, Micheal rowed his boat to shore, hallelujah Michael rowed his boat to shor...hal leh lu ooo yaaaaaa! wotnartd 11-22-2008, 03:02 PM more morbid, "kill yourself" lyrics you guys are hopeless...find some real, uplifting lyrics...Air Supply is better than that crap! I'm not all bad ;P 2ndGen.Rocket 11-23-2008, 10:22 AM You may be an exception, but I'm convinced when you feed your mind with putrid lyrics, it has effects. Furthermore, you may do well career-wise and make alot of money, but "what does it profit a man if he gain the whole world and lose his own soul?". Music is a such a powerful thing, there needs to be some balance, these days it's this constant stream of really foul/morbid/trash lyrics feeding these little children of the apocolypse. I would really be a concerned (but not over-bearing) parent, I suppose it's better I not have kids. You're parents said the same thing when you were listening to this: 8. Charlotte The Harlot [Dave Murray] Giving a swish with your arse in the air, don't you know what they're saying? Charlotte you're so refined when you take all the love that they're giving. Sticking with every man that you find, don't you know what they're after? Charlotte you've got your legs in the air, don't you hear all the laughter? [Chorus] Charlotte the Harlot show me your legs, Charlotte the Harlot take me to bed. Charlotte the Harlot let me see blood, Charlotte the Harlot let me see love. Taking so many men to your room, don't you feel no remorse? You charge them a "fiver", It's only for starters. And ten for the main course. And you've got no feelings, they died long ago. Don't you care who you let in? And don't you know you're breaking the law with the service you're giving. [Chorus] There was a time when you left me standing there, Picking up pieces of love off the floor. Well Charlotte you left me alone in there, To make your ends as a bloody whore. Well Charlotte you told me you love me true, Picking up pieces of love yesterday. Well Charlotte you're draws are off color too 'Cause you're making love all day. Giving a swish with your arse in the air, don't you know what they're saying? Charlotte you're so refined when you take all the love that they're giving. Sticking with every man that you find, don't you know what they're after? Charlotte you've got your legs in the air, don't you hear all the laughter? 4. 22 Acacia Avenue [Steve Harris and Adrian Smith] [the continuing saga of Charlotte the Harlot] If you're feeling down depressed and lonely I know a place where we can go 22 Acacia Avenue meet a lady that I know So if you're looking for a good time And you're prepared to pay the price Fifteen quid is all she asks for Everybody's got their vice If you're waiting for a long time for the rest to do their piece You can tell her that you know me and you might even get it free So any time you're down the East End don't you hesitate to go You can take my honest word for it she'll teach you more than you can know Charlotte can't you get out from all of this madness Can't you see it only brings you sadness When you entertain your men don't you know the risk of getting disease Some day when you're reaching the age of forty I bet you'll regret the days when you were laying Nobody then will want to know You won't have any beautiful wares to show any more 22 the avenue that's the place where we all go You will find it's warm inside the red light's burning bright tonight Charlotte isn't it time you stopped this mad life Don't you ever think about the bad times Why do you have to live this way Do you enjoy your lay or is it the pay Sometimes when you're strolling down the avenue The way you walk it makes men think of having you When you're walking down the street Everybody stops and turns to stare at you 22 the avenue that's the place where we all go You will find it's warm inside the red light's burning bright tonight Beat her mistreat her do anything that you please Bite her excite her make her get down on her knees Abuse her misuse her she can take all that you've got Caress her molest her she always does what you want You're running away don't you know what you're doing Can't you see it'll lead you to ruin Charlotte you've taken your life and you've thrown it away You believe that because what you're earning Your life's good don't you know that you're hurting All the people that love you don't cast them aside All the men that are constantly drooling It's no life for you stop all that screwing You're packing your bags and you're coming with me 2. Children Of The Damned [Steve Harris] He's walking like a small child But watch his eyes burn you away Black holes in his golden stare God knows he wants to go home Children of The Damned He's walking like a dead man If he had lived he would crucified us all Now he's standing on his last step He thought oblivion well it beckons us all Children of The Damned [x3] Now it's burning his hands he's turning to laugh Smiles as the flame sears his flesh Melting his face screaming in pain Peeling the skin from his eyes Watch him die according to plan He's dust on ground what did we learn You're Children of The Damned Your back's against the wall You turn into the light You're burning in the night You're Children of The Damned Like candles watch them burn Burning in the light You'll burn again tonight Children of The Damned So there are two songs about a hooker and one about burning in hell. For some reason I fail to see the difference between this music which you praise, and the music that other people posted that you think is trash. There is no difference lyrically, it is just a case of you liking what you grew up with, and not understanding new music. Just like your parents, just like their parents, and so on, and so on. Ark2 11-23-2008, 11:11 AM Don't bother 2ndGen. You're right on the mark but he won't listen to this reasoning. Some people are just willfully blind. Ark2 11-23-2008, 12:55 PM You basically said that people who listen to NIN are going nowhere in life, and I'm the asshole? Ark2 11-23-2008, 01:08 PM Fair enough, but I doubt that the music he listens to would have made a difference with regards to how much he studies. 2ndGen.Rocket 11-23-2008, 01:48 PM I don't "praise" that song or alot of Maiden stuff for lyrical content (I haven't heard those songs in years btw), but my compilation CDs always have a good balance of solid lyrics, not a drumbeat of truly warped stuff repeated here. You managed to pick the very worst song on the CD btw (that song talks about the worthless life of a prostitute, it's not praising the lifestyle)..songs like "Run to Hills" (which I do listen to) are nothing more than a history lesson you're going to compare THAT to this warped, morbid "kill myself" crap Trent Reznor and his ilk sing about? I don't see the difference, not every one of Reznor's songs have anything at all to do with killing yourself either. It may seem morbid, but it is an expression of emotion, which is what songwriting is supposed to be. Good music makes you think, challenges your perception, and communicates the artists feelings. Supper 11-23-2008, 02:05 PM I suppose you shouldn't judge a band solely on how they look, but those guys look like a collection of plant life IQ ex-factory workers, hence, the chances of them generating anything decent is nildid you even listen to any of their music? czarofzar 11-23-2008, 02:06 PM .. I'm not all bad ;P yup, Ive just found that out. musiclovesryan 03-17-2009, 02:09 PM Lil Wayne =] |
