My fuckin leg hurts like hell right now. Stop and go for an hour, and eventually I made it home.

I left work at 4:45, got caught up in a wreck, and a few bottlenecks along the way. I got home about 5:40.

Charlotte Traffic Sux...

I thought this was going to be a "I lost a clutch" thread.

SpartanTS
07-16-2007, 05:55 PM
It has to be an aftermarket clutch. The clutch in this car is stiffer than any other car I've ever driven.

thats when you put it in first gear and let it idle along at nothing. Who cares if a bit of gap opens up between you and the next car?

I love putting the Cummins into granny gear and letting it just ease along with the push bumper on the front, not many retards try to squeeze in when a 6" Schedule 80 pipe is staring them in the mirror.

i tried holding it in first gear...but I'd hate to stall and I have to really get movin again quickly...

Well there's always tomorrow. 485 is always jammed everytime I go home at 5.

I usually try to get behind a transport truck. They roll along in low gear most of the way, allowing you to do the same.

When I go on trips through there, one of my friends is always paranoid about charlotte traffic like it's atlanta or some shit... I've never really paid much attention to it, but then again I've never seen much traffic there. He used to drive through there often though... and I'm just ignorant to it.

There's a shitload of traffic in Charlotte at rush hour. 85 is typically a nightmare. Not as bad as Atlanta, but not far off.

SpartanTS
07-16-2007, 08:33 PM
Traffic is pure hell here during rush hour. All it takes is one car to cause an accident, and then you're backed up for miles.

I can't even imagine what traffic was like before the beltway was built.

85 runs from greensboro to charlotte right? then 77 runs to 26, to 95, iirc?

2ndGen.Rocket
07-16-2007, 08:58 PM
Yea. The problem is the accidents on 85. One fender brings traffic to a standstill. Then couple that with every dipshit driving by slowly and staring.

Zero
07-16-2007, 09:05 PM
I went through there at night a couple of times, and day a couple of times... night there was zero traffic... daytime wasn't that bad thankfully. The south is full of neanderthals that like to drive slow so that they can be fucking nosy looking at what's happening on either side of the road.

Yep. 77 terminus is in Columbia, meets with 26, which runs to Charleston. It intersects with 95 about 60 miles south of Columbia.

Know them like the back of my hand since I lived in SC for so long.

I-85 wouldn't be that bad if it were wider than 8 lanes. We need 12 lanes everywhere in Charlotte. The smart transporation guys originally had I-485 4 lanes wide. Now, it's 6 lanes wide in the bottleneck areas. Yet, that still doesn't help.

Meanwhile, we're spending tax $$$ on light rail here in Charlotte. I surely hope its worth the investment.

and I forgot to mention D.C. in my previous post, it's right up there

D.C. isn't TOO bad... It really depends on the day and conditions, I'd say.

I work in Falls Church, VA and live in Mt. Rainier, MD so I have to deal with riding through D.C. in order to get home (unless I want to try and deal with 395-495, which is a whole other trap in itself).

Coming into work I can make it within 30-40 minutes, going home takes about an hour. Work shift is 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM

NY, the drivers are aggressive, but usually somewhat intelligent.

NoVA, the drivers are aggressive morons.

NY, the roads usually have a rhyme or reason, usually.

NoVA, The Mixing Bowl. Manassas. FAIRFAX. End of discussion.

I hate the fuckers who always puts the "pedal to the metal" everytime traffic goes and stops, and then the fuckers stop just in the nick of time from hitting the car in fron tof them.....I mean wtf, are you fucking retarded.
You're stuck in traffic and you are speeding up for about 2 cars lenght then stopping again, of you were smart, you would just ride the gas pedal (auto) or ride in first gear or second (in manual) so you dont have to stop all the time and you can just cruise down the traffic.

Here in Philly, espicially near Conshohocken on I-76. Fuckers get too irritated or too impatient. If all the people that was driving during a traffic jam here in Philly, just going 5mph, there would be no stop and go traffic, it would just be a slow moving traffic.

I actually witness some accidents, and near accidents from retarded drivers that are impatient and they speed up and brake, and they kep on doing that till they hit a car, or they are about to and they slow down. Everytime I see those people I always yell at them, are they retarded......

Worst I had was about two months ago, it turned a 1.5 hour trip into a 3 hour trip. 2 miles of road took 1.5 hours to get through. No AC, 100 degrees.

Thats nothing, thats like me saying I drove up to Maine, therefore I can adequately judge all NY traffic.

Same as reading a few chapters of some religious texts in a class and claiming to be able to judge them all :P

I live in the county and rarely end up having to get stuck in traffic. Sometimes when I go to toronto or detroit I will.

The bridgeport is HELL in stop and go. Idle shakes the shit out of the car, the clutch weighs a ton and it's got no torque. yay fun.

But anything else I drive ever, stop and go isn't such a big deal. Idle + 1st.

if you need to get moving in a hurry, mat the pedal. you're in 1st gear. it'll go. :P

Just like in competitive driving, remember to look ahead! If you know what's going on you have time to react before the people infront of you even do. You'll know when other people are going to brake, and can coast down before they can get slowed... and then just idle along.
