Ultralights 10-04-2005, 02:59 AM look at the photo with the couch in the background http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6566058524#ebayphotohosting IHI 10-04-2005, 03:12 AM looks like they're acting like animals to me. What is your opinion of Corvair aircraft conversion? They look like a great alternative to the Continental O-200, cheap, reliable, plentiful parts, direct drive, air cooled, ultra-simple. I'm dreaming of a corvair powered Q2. If you think the Lancair 320 is "Dr. Death", you would really want to avoid a Q2, lol. http://www.eaa1000.av.org/pix/martpix/q200.jpg Ultralights 10-04-2005, 03:54 AM im not to sure what the corvair is, i am assuming its an engine type, but i am unfamiliar with it.. I have a set of plans for the Quickie, though i dont like the extra work needed on the canard so ill leave the plans where they are... the Lancair has taken over from the Bonanza as the New Dr death..... plenty of money, not much experience= dead pilots. IHI 10-04-2005, 12:42 PM Corvair = 180hp flat six aircooled 194ci car engine made by GM in the late 60s. Here is a corvair aircraft conversion derated to 100hp. It's direct drive, no liquid cooling system / waterpump etc. and weighs just a hair over 200lbs. You can build them for a few $thousand. Corvair powered homebuilts have been around for about 20 years according to one guy who wrote a conversion manual for them. It's a direct replacement for the Continental O200. :) http://www.hubka.com/images/corvair_pat.jpg SpartanTS 10-04-2005, 12:50 PM  Why did he take that pic of them humping on the couch? Cosby 10-04-2005, 11:29 PM I would have put that one up to :) RoadRaceJosh 10-05-2005, 01:35 AM Corvair = 180hp flat six aircooled 194ci car engine made by GM in the late 60s. I'm sure that's all it's capable of at any speed you'd use for direct drive. The 4 carb HP versions were rated at 140 hp gross at 5200 RPM. The '65 and later tubo version was rated at 180 hp. They are only 164 ci for the '64 and later models, '61-'63 were 145 ci and the 1960 model was 140 ci. A friend of mine is into Corvairs and drives around in a Corvair van. His '66 Corsa had a stud pull out of the case so it's sitting. IHI 10-05-2005, 02:05 AM They derate them for aircraft use for reliability purposes. Much less mechanical and thermal stress at 100hp than 180, but you're right, pump up the RPM and they make more power. |
