on headphones :bigthumb:

these things (http://www.headphone.com/products/headphones/all-headphones/akg-k-26-p.php) are the shit. Some of the best headphones I have ever used to date with the iPod.

Too bad I can't afford some freakin Sennheiser HD 650's or Grado RS 1's.

I'm thinking one of those is in line for this summer now.

what are you going to use the amp for?

Its going to be plugged into my desktop, which I use for everything from music to movies to games, etc etc.

Eventually I plan on picking up a Max Balanced (http://www.headphone.com/products/headphone-amps/the-max-line/headroom-max-balanced-amp.php) amp for my home theater system which just kind of sits and collects dust at the moment.

omfg wtf man you shouldve brought the Sennhierser HD555's used for ~ 30 dollars more... i had the AKG26 and sold them before i got the senn hd555... MUCH better more even tones. the lows are just right (im not a big bass head but i do like bass), the mids are clean, the highs are very detailed but wont irritate you at all. MUCH better than the akg26's and the senn's dont touch your ears like the akg26 does so its much more comfortable and you forget tat you even have it on. go check out www.headfi.net or org or com... forgot... best forum ever for headphones and head phone amps and other audio stuff. they have a great f/s section for the headphones and amps so yo ucan get better stuff used for cheap unlike headroom. go buy yourself a portable amp if you cant build your own MINT box amp, cleans the ipod up really really really nicely and works at home too.

I didn't want HD555's because the 26's folded up really nice :D

These AKG's are simply for portability, the Senn's or Grado's are going to be later on and only for home use.

edit:

bass = goooooooooooooooooooooood

you shouldve gotten custom molded IEM (in ear moniters) lol. though they cost hundreds since you need to go to a place and have ur ears clean and have them molded for the IEM. the Koss KSC-75 is probably the best deal you can get. the sound quality is at the same level as the akg26 imo, you gotta try those 20 dollar set of bad boys for yourself. great beater headphones and theyre really portable so you can carry them everywhere. best kept secret lol.

senn's seems to have a very sweet mellow sound so if youre into the relaxed sounds its probably not right for you.

I used to swear by Koss. Had many many many pairs of them back in highschool. Broke too many of em. Another reason I like these AKG's, they seem more sturdy. We'll see what my opinion of them is after a few weeks of listening to em.

As far as the custom molded in ear ones go, I have a set of custom molded speakers for work to plug into radios while in vessels, boilers, while working on mines, etc. And I would rather not have something crammed in my ear for music when I don't have to. Trust me, you live with those things in your ears enough and even though they are custom molded they start to create sore spots. Especially with wires hanging out of them.

Koss's ring around the ear tends to be a bit flimsy sometimes but unless you stick or sit on them all the time theyre pretty durable. love em and theyre the only headphones i wear when i go out. dont feel like wearing my hd280pro's since it makes me look even more retarded...

The Bose QuietComforts are nice. I wish I could listen to some of these Seinheisers before I got some.

^ lol @ Bose... theyre like the Monster Cables of headphones. overpriced, mediem quality, and always raved about because its a big brand. old school Bose speakers were nice though.

You are right, Bose speakers are actually pretty mediocre, but they channel the sound to make it sound real nice. :)

It's pretty facinating, actually. Imagine what it would be like with good speakers.

I have some old Bose 901's from the mid 70's. I've had the woofers replaced once, but those speakers still rock the fucking house.
