I had an unusually high light bill last month (nearly $160), so I was thinking about buying one of these:

What are you guys paying for power? And have anyone here ever heard/used that gadget above?

I don't use the heater, even when it's high 40's - 50's at night.

As a matter of fact I have the window open for fresh air.

If u can't deal with those temps u must be a liberal............. the weak wristed slack jawwed faggot type.

hig 40's low 50's..... at NIGHT??????

for Bon Scots Sake... its been in the low 40's high 30's here during the DAY... and thats a HEAT WAVE for January....

Man.. I gotta get the hell out of the North....

My NG bill was 375 bucks last month and 358 bucks this month.... thats about 20 bucks more than the same period last year.... AND... I used 20% LESS gas..... Friggin ASSHATS....

My buddy up the street who DIDN"T install the High Efficiency boiler when i did got hit with a $500 gass bill this month OUCH!!!

now... thats JUST the gas... my electric bill is usually about 50 bucks... but, thats pretty good, being that it used to be 75-100 all winter long..... If you don't use the spiral compact flourescent replacement bulbs... your wasting a LOT of money... I even use them in the spotlights for the garage security system!!!!!

I think around 100 for my APT up at school. I'm not sure how that compares to others around us. We tipically have many electronics running throughout the day.

BTW, my energy bill for the entire month in a 3000 sq/ft house with high beam ceilings is $80.

I do take hot showers, jacuzzi as well as wash clothes with hot water.

The only thing heating my room is my PC.......... and we know how long that takes.

Mine was 112 this month which is high. But its been alternating 70* for two days, then 30* for two days so I've been jacking the thermostat like a dick.

I usually pay in the $60 range. 1030 sq/ft apt.

Not sure why my bill was $160. I don't use my central heat that much, as I use the fireplace at night for the most part.

That Kill-A-Watt thing is kinda... a waste. Most appliances will have either current in amps or power in watts printed on it. Power(watts) = Voltage(Volts(120)) * Current(Amps). A current clamp or DMM will also read current, multiply by 120 to get power in watts.

From there you can tell where your big power draws are. Fridge and oven draw the most power. Heating/cooling is up there as well. Cut down on that and you'll notice a drop in your power bill. Also, switching your lightbulbs from regular incandescent (the 60w ones) with compact fluoroescent (60w output uses around 15watts).

My bill is between $30 and $90/mo. I keep my thermostat as low as it'll go, burn candles when i'm home, and keep the lights off unless i'm using them. I also use my microwave instead of stove/oven, if possible.

I used to have both my computers running all the time, after my last bill I cut that out quick. Both have 400w Power supplies.

I hibernate both machines when i'm not home.

Nothing wrong with saving $$$$ is there?

Besides, the heater dries my throat out (and no, i'm not going to recylcing semen to coat my throat).
