So about a month and a half ago, I had one of the lower control arms replaced on my Audi. I picked the car up, and it was pulling slightly to the left afterwards... I didn't think much of it, I figured they had re-aligned it, and maybe it was just off a bit, or that because one side had a new part, maybe that side was a little tighter or something...

Fast forward to 4 days ago. My GF has been using it, and I've been using her Blazer, because I've had a bunch of shit to haul around. She's driven maybe 600 miles total in that 6 weeks. So she calls me because she's lost in Providence, and in the middle of the call she says, "OK, now the car is making some weird noise." She pulls over, and there's a flat on the driver's side front tire. I figure it's no biggie, she probably hit a nail or something, and I had purchased the road hazard insurance, so I could just go to Town Fair and have them throw on a new one.

Then we had an issue with AAA, which I'm not even gonna get into. Cliff notes: They are morons. So, I had to drive out to Providence and find her, and change the tire myself, no biggie.

Imagine my dismay when I got the tire off, and found the entire inside edge of the tire worn down to the belts, and blown. Mind you, these tires have maybe 5000 miles on them. The other three look brand new. So, I went down to our mechanic, who has made probably $3k in repair bill off our assorted cars in the last year, and he tells me that we must have hit a pothole, threw the car out of alignment, and that he had nothing to do with it. I said, "C'mon, anytime you replace a piece of suspension on the front of this car, you're supposed to align it." Not so, according to him. He's trying to claim that there's a piece that's bad somewhere in the driver's side suspension, and he'd be happy to check it out at his regular rates. I was so fucking pissed... I mean, hello, that tire goes that bad in five hundred miles? It was perfect when I brought the car there. "Oh, that tire could go bad like that in a day if you hit a pothole and knocked it out of whack."

I told him he lost my business, brought the car home, and as soon as I can get the FBs suspension back on it, the Audi is taking it's place to get looked at.

Man that guy is an asshole.

Have another shop do the work. Invoice him with 30 days to pay. If he doesn't pay take him to small claims for the cost of the tire and repair.

I agree with Os.

Are the 2.7T manuals worth a crap?

I still haven't had a chance to look at it. I gotta get the suspension back on the FB, which is proving to be a bitch and a half.

So, I ended up taking it to a new mechanic. Like I thought, the suspension was fine on that side, the alignment was fucked.

While at the mechanic, he tells me one of my ball joints is going bad. To illustrate the point, when he backed the car out of the garage, it snapped.

Here's before and after:

Funny thing... Mechanic said they never give out on the highway, they only give out at parking lot speeds when you turn.
