Happened Friday as I was merging back on the freeway following a visual inspection for some minor vibration.

good thing I was only going 15mph and didn't use 600HP.

I saw the rear wheel roll across the free way to the other side towards on coming traffic.

Amazingly after all the swerving and braking there were no accidents.

I made my buddy run across the freeway after I pulled over in the shoulder to fetch the wheel down the hill.

Good thing some tow truck was in the area.

The weird thing was that all of the bolts are not on the brake rotors.

Did they shave off?

theories?

Only damage that I can see is the backing of the wheel where it meets the brake rotors are pretty beat up and the brake rotor after it slide on the asphault.

No body damage since the car wasn't lowered.

I think the company that installed my tires/wheels didn't torque the wheel down.

I've used this company for decades and no problems.

I called them up and they paid for the towing and my rental car and told me that they would refund the $$$ for the service and have the repairs taken care of.

Their store manager will be checking it out today.

More as things develop.

I just went to the shop and they are sorry about the incident.

It's being taken care of.

They may have forgotten to TQ the wheels or use the proper TQ lbs.

the disc vent is $400!?!??!

the manager there saw me and took me to the side.

he didn't want the other customers to hear what happened.

Dam rotor shield was $400

I lol'd (surprised nobody else got this joke)

Had this happen on my 240SX once too. Didn't hit anyone, but my left rear tire ended up rolling up the exit ramp of the 495. No real damage, just a slightly shaved rotor.

Culprit? Didn't torque down my bolts.

lol, holy shit....glad they're taking care of it for ya. They'd just take pictures of my car, tell me I rolled it or something and tell me to fuck off.

if the studs sheared its probably because they overtorqued the lug nuts.

which reminds me of this.

Agreed.

However, it could also be undertorquing one, and it will come off, then another lug starts to work its way off as the wheel shimmies a little. Then shit goes bad.

I've had lugnuts fall off and shear on both my lugnut cars, but the lugbolts on the FB check out just fine.
