Just bought an MPx220 after having an MPx200 for a few years. SmartPhones are the best. I don't think i'll ever go back to a mainstream cell phone.

:roll::roll::roll:

if I could get a modern cell phone that only did phone calls, I'd jump on that shit like a fat chick on cake. I'm tired of all these "do everything allright but nothing good" phones.

I have broke so many phones in the past, I picked up so older moto v60s off ebay and when one dies just swap parts from another. The metal case works well.

I finally broke down and bought a new LG and it has lasted me about 7 months now. I think it is an AllTel exclusive so I don't know if you can get it or not. It is about as basic as you can get these days

This is my 2nd smartphone, and so far it does everything well. My previous smartphone (MPx200) was flawless also, so not sure what you mean there.
What exactly do you want in a phone? Are you with a GSM carrier?

And if you want modern cellphone that only makes and receives phone calls...

whats the best cell phone out there

Doesn't the above statement become a little contradictory?

Oh here it is on the Box

Nokia 2128! It is a great little phone. Works great and sounds great.

here is the thing. I hate those little pussy flip phones. I like the old bigger style cell phones.

Mine has no camera and no flip, it doesn't have music or tv down loads. It basically works as a phone....

I agree, too much shit is being packed into modern phones without enough focus on what they're originally intended to do: make and receive calls. This startac I have is ancient, but there's no shit on it... no color, no games, no web, no "texting"... It's a goddamned phone, and it does that very well. I picked up 4 used ones off eBay... all with new batteries, new antennas, cases are all in good shape. When one component dies, i'll just swap it out. However, if the digital board ever goes, i'm fucked since the FCC won't allow non-GPS-compatible phones to be activated anymore.

Them older Nextel's seem to be dddddddbuilt well.

how is it contradictory? I didn't ask "What is the best do everything phone" or "which is the best for games phone" or "which is the best for texting."

The best "Cell phone" is is meant to say "what is the best cell phone that is just a phone instead of a media center"

Some of us actually like to do more with their phones. I couldn't imagine going back to a basic phone. It'd be very frustrating not having the functionality I have now with my Moto SmartPhone.

I don't play games, I don't text, however...

I do use the web, I do use e-mail and sync with MS Outlook to keep up with appointments and such. The phone I have seems to do that the best, without breaking the bank.

Anyway, i'm not here to convert you basic guys to the "dark side". However, I seriously wouldn't recommend buying a shitty phone just to avoid technology. Especially when it'll probably take a shit on you a lot sooner than a more expensive phone w ill.

And you didn't say "What's the best phone for my money that doesn't have all the bells and whistles" either. But I digress...

Who's your service provider?

Motorola e815, it's certainly no pussy little flip phone. It's a beefy little number, and not many people have them because they aren't the RAZR, so you don't feel like a little bitch with it. It's nice and big. It is basically a beefy RAZR, same screen and software. And it has like real buttons, not smooth shitty feeling shit.

I do have an issue with the battery, though, and I don't like that. I'm going to demand Alltel replace the battery, because I only get a day out of it, and I've had it for... since June.

the razr, being a flip phone, doesnt seem too sturdy. My next one will be the Slivr, I think. Its a bit like the razr but not a flip phone. And mine's about to go any time now too.

Never had a problem with my Razr, but mine's a V3c and I typically have it linked to a headset.

I use an LG the V eng or VX9900, It is a bit bulkey at times but works great. I am thinking about picking up a small filp phone for weekends when I am really working so I dont worry about breaking my good phone.

I've had the LG 5200 for a while now. Damn thing has been a projectile multiple times. :D Great durable little phone!!

Lemme guess... you have Verizon? My fiance works as a tech at Verizon... and the RAZR has SO many problems, due to Verizon's software. So far that's the only thing I have to complain about Verizon. :)

Very true, but it's very easy to reprogram the phone, and put the Motorolla software back on it :)

How do I get Verizon's bullshit off my Razr? The thing loads the next screen about as fast as a pickle race lubed with Superglue.

ROM = Read-Only Memory.

How exactly do you "upgrade" something that's read-only?

Maybe you meant "Flash" or "EEPROM".

IIRC from motomodders.net is he means a ROM flash, kinda like upgrading your TI calculator.

I picked up a Moto 325i from Verizon, formerly had a local carrier that sucked balls. It was the most "basic" phone they had, the milspec phone wasn't available as its digital only.

If you're with Verizon, and don't want to renew your contract...

Buy your own phone. I t's a lot better than being locked into a contract for 2 more years for a "so-so" deal on an okay phone.

Buy it outright, get what you want, and u won't have to renew your contract.

I'd like to say that you can still connect any phone. The FCC has no rule on the GPS enabling. This rule is Verizon worried about being sued if you get lost and they can't track via your phone.

You merely need to sign a waiver to have an old phone reactivated.

I signed that waiver in '04 or whenever I activated my phone.
01 January 2006 the FCC requires all newly activated phones have the GCPS chip in it. Doesn't mean you can't destroy the chip.... but the phone has to have it.

I tried activating a newer Startac a few months ago and nobody would/could do it. All the phones with service and without the gcps chip were grandfathered in. And that's the reason i'm holding on to this old Startac, and replacing parts when they die. Someday I'll get my hands on a programmer and just burn my own PROMs.
