yesterday i reseted my DSL modem thinking i could change my IP. well since then my router havent worked. if i connect directly fromt he modem to my comp it works but if i conenct the router to the modem then connect my comp to the router it doesnt work. wtf? it worked before i reset the modem. i tried it with my sisters lap top... samething. oh yeah my sisteres laptop only worked if i connect to the router via a ethernet cable, but if i use the wireless it doesnt connect (though it gets perfect signals). im using a link sys wrt54g router and im using Verizon DSL as a service provider.

Is there a firewall enabled on the DSL modem? The modems usually have a router/firewall built into them, so if you're going from the DSL modem into another router, unless you've got some good networking kung-fu you're gonna run into problems.

If the DSL modem does have a router/firewall in it, i'd just stick with that and pick up a network switch. That'll use the DHCP server and firewall configs in the DSL modem and elimininate the headaches you're having.

If the modem is strictly a modem, make sure the uplink on the router goes into the modem and all the IP addresses and netmasks are set correctly. Then you should be able to turn on DHCP in the router and be good to go from there.

Leave the modem powered on.
Leave the modem plugged into the "uplink" or port 1, depending on your model via cat5.
Plug your computers into the router ports.
Power all of your computers off.
Power off the router.. unplug it.
Presss the "reset" button in on it with a pen or something for about a minute.
Leave it unplugged 10 minutes.
Power the router back on.
Wait 5 minutes for the router.
Power your p.c.'s back on.
It should work now, if not... you'll need to get the default IP of it and go in and check the settings.... linksys can help you with this.

However, as animal mentioned above... go with a small switch.. a linksys 5 port switch is abuot $30. It has the same plug and play, no settings as a hub.... but has it's own processor... so they're more efficient.

If all of this doesn't work... I still got rid of your post whoring ass for 20 minutes.
