BATMAN 08-25-2006, 09:55 AM New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin criticized efforts to redevelop the World Trade Center site when confronted in a television interview about delays in rebuilding his city after Hurricane Katrina.
During the “60 minutes” interview, a correspondent pointed out flood-damaged cars still on the streets of New Orleans’ devastated Ninth Ward. Nagin replied, “You guys in New York can’t get a hole in the ground fixed, and it’s five years later. So let’s be fair,” according to CBS.
The program is scheduled to air Sunday night. Text and a video clip from the Nagin piece were posted on CBS’ Web site Thursday.

The chairman of the Lower Manhattan Development Corp., the agency created to oversee the rebuilding of the World Trade Center site and downtown Manhattan, said that tremendous progress has been made in lower Manhattan, with the Freedom Tower, a transportation hub and a memorial to the nearly 3,000 attack victims under construction.
“We understand how difficult rebuilding a city after such destruction can be,” chairman Kevin Rampe said in a statement. NBC VIDEO
Nagin, known for his blunt style, is not the first to compare the two cities. New Orleans residents frequently complain that the federal government’s response after Katrina has been far more sluggish than it was after the Sept. 11 attacks.
Say No To Pistons 08-25-2006, 10:03 AM Nagin needs to GTFO outta here and mind his own business. he needs to take care of himself before he starts talking crap about other things. and hardly any progress has been made in Ground Zero because of the disbutes between Larry (the owner), port authority, and basically everything else.
SpartanTS 08-25-2006, 10:16 AM He just wants to make some noise. Everyone will forget about what he said in a few hours.
As an aside, I don't see the point of rebuilding the WTC, considering there's not much of a market for that real estate right now. The Port Authority knows this. Add in the politics and we can see why rebuilding is a bad idea, and will take a while.
Must be a slow news day, even for Batty.
HashiriyaS14 08-25-2006, 12:32 PM That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
The September 11th survivors also weren't shooting at police and stealing TV's.
Not to mention that to respond quickly to the attacks made a much-needed political statement, and "big fish in a small pond" Nagin doesn't recognize or acknowldge the importance of something like that.
I have a friend who's working in construction in N.O. and the Federal gov't is bending over backwards to get stuff put together down there. You wouldn't believe the financial bonanza available to anyone willing to build, along with the myriad of other assistance.
That guy is a douche.

You probably have no idea how much the 16 acres of land is worth right now... no idea. itll be a total waste. some families want them to be rebuilt, some want the same towers up again, and some just want a memorial.
HashiriyaS14 08-25-2006, 02:11 PM I don't think there's a snowball's chance in hell of it just being a memorial, the real estate is way too valuable.
Doing the same towers would be dumb, it'd be like if Chevrolet started building 1995 Luminas again or something, just pointless. Skyskraper technology has come a long way since those towers went up.
They'll build another, bigger, flashier tower(s) for commercial (and perhaps some residential) use.
Say No To Pistons 08-25-2006, 02:25 PM ^ Im sure they will build at least 3 high rises with that space... theres plenty of roomf or all different kinds of buildings... Commercial, residential, hotels, etc. just like the previous WTC 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7....
czarofzar 08-25-2006, 06:52 PM At least build something in NYC that will piss off our friends in the mid east.
New orleans...another detroit. Bred to behave helpless.
SpartanTS 08-30-2006, 08:34 AM that guy is such an idiot
he's also a racist
Well aren't you late to the party :D
Considering this guy has an MBA and was a VP at Cox Communications, he does seem to spew out some idiotic comments from time to time.
BATMAN 08-30-2006, 09:38 AM If u didn't get an MBA at any major names than it ain't worth shit.
Lemme guess.............. Devry university
SpartanTS 08-30-2006, 07:23 PM this is a chocolate city (in my best fast talking ebonics)
;)
after he said that I had zero respect for him...one of the dumbest things I've heard anyone say
+1, and I'm sure many would agree with you.
As for his MBA Batty, it was from Tulane, which i'm sure wasn't a gimme MBA, and his undergrad accounting degree is from Tuskegee. So his formal educational background isn't lacking, it's his common sense that's lacking, especially when it comes to PR.
And you don't have to have your MBA from a major big name high dollar university, you just can't earn it from some bullshit university, but i'm assuming that's what you meant.
You just don't start babbling about "Chocolate City, blah blah blah" on TV. I can only hope that he's looked back on this and thought "HOW STUPID". :40oz:
DeRFmAn 08-30-2006, 10:08 PM I argree with the choc. city comment, however I think its stupid for that reporter to expect the city to come back quick. No offense but the damage to the WTC was in a much smaller area. NOLA was damaged far worse, no to mention nothing could be done at first b/c of all the severe flooding. There is was also the health issues with Kat, there still are in some areas. As for the cars still being everywhere well when a city is evacuated the tow truck drivers leave too, either that or they lost their truck as well. While it was out of line for him to bring up the WTC, he does have a valid point. **puts on flame suit**
Basically the NOLA event was on a much larger scale then the WTC. I don't see people on the news buggin the proper authorites about the WTC Rebuilding, why should they do it to NOLA when its only been approx. a year. As for the looting and shooting, the only reason it didn't happen in NYC is because we were attacked by terrorists which united us as a nation, it wasn't a natural disaster. Oh and some of the people were looting to eat, not all but I'd say atleast half. Anyway bring on the flaming.
Edit: I know there were health issues with the WTC too, but they didn't last nearly as long as NOLA.
SpartanTS 08-31-2006, 10:42 AM no, because he says something new and almost as retarded just about every day :bigthumb:
Unfortunately, there's some truth to that.
DeRFmAn 08-31-2006, 11:44 AM good post by the derfman...although any "uniting" of the nation has been short-lived at best
Thanks. As for the "uniting" I couldn't agree more, its pretty sad that it took something of that magnitude to unite us, but thats just the way most people are.
czarofzar 08-31-2006, 06:31 PM BTW if you are planning to work in the NO area, there is a sickness that they wont tell you until you arrive. My friend that worked there had it and couldnt get rid of it until he came back home.
DeRFmAn 08-31-2006, 09:43 PM I volunteered with my g/f when it initially happened just went to a local shelter for them and shit played with the kids help the others with other shit too. Not gonna go to N.O. for awhile. My g/f loves it there, I like it too, its got tons of history. But yeah........stuff.
hellcat 09-04-2006, 12:48 AM BTW if you are planning to work in the NO area, there is a sickness that they wont tell you until you arrive. My friend that worked there had it and couldnt get rid of it until he came back home.
Yeah, a girl I know helped out over Spring Break, came home, and was sick as hell for a couple of days. Crazy.
