Besides jerking off, I'm getting really bored. And need a new hobby, I was thinking about mountain biking(do they still call it that?) But I don't know where to begin, I don't want to buy a super expensive bike and then not like it, nor do I want to buy a cheap bike that will break or just not be fun for me to ride. Any input on this would be good. And any other ideas, I'm looking for something outside, and a road bike is out of the question.

steal some little kids bike and give it a try real fast, that way you wont be worried about the bike at all. See if you actually enjoy falling off of a bike and constantly reading outdoor magazine.

I bought a used full suspension last year for the trails....I really didn't want a full suspension but the price was right 350. Check the local bike shops, then hit the trails!

$350 will get you a plenty decent hard tail new from a local bike shop.

If you want something that is considered nice you'll spend alot more (much much more) Not necessary if you don't know weather you'll even like it or not.

Whatever you do DO NOT buy anything from walmart/target etc. they may be cheap but they ride like shit, break immediately and can not be fixed.

look into gary fisher. its the name as far as mt. biking goes IMHO. sure you can go with kline or cannondale and spend 3k + but why for a biggener. look into the gary fisher advance or if you have the money to spend the parana. also the trek 4300 or trek 6000. the K2 zed 1.0 and 2.0 are good as well. go with a hard tail to start. full susension is a softer ride but weigh more and more difficult to ride on technical trails. if you have any questions just ask
