My friend bought a brand new 06 Infiniti G35 yesterday and he took us for a ride to Santa Monica and back.
Pros:

Roomy Interior
HIDs
6 gears *see below
Nice navigation system set up
19" wheels
easy to read instruments
298 hp
interior components do not make noise

Cons:

$45,000.00 price tag
Choppy ride for a luxury car
6th gear is like another 5th gear
moving the front seats to get to the back seats is cumbersome
Room for 5, but only seats 4
exhaust sounds like a civic with a muffler tip (inside the car)
road/tire noise is as bad as a in a mustang
turning radius sucks (maybe because my friend was driving)
no torque
trunk space is very limited
more body roll than a stock 2003 Mustang GT (friend's car)

All in all, this is an overpriced luxury sports coupe that needs refinement. Sure, it's a good looking car, but it lacks performance that you would expect from such a hefty price tag. The 3.5 liter DOHC V6 needs boost or the engine itself needs to be replaced with a larger engine that produces more torque. 298hp is deceiving.

The 06 models differ slightly from the 05 models in headlight and taillight design.

Feel free to ask questions.

well the specs claim 260 ft/lb of torque but then again that may seem like nothing since it weighs about 3500 lbs. :dunno:

I didn't feel much of anything even up to 4,500 rpm.

Feel free to ask questions.1. You state "took us for a ride". How many people were in the car during this "test drive"?

2. 260 lb-ft. @ 4,800 rpm + 3,500 lb. curb weight + several passengers = not that quick. Did you see a V8 emblem anywhere on the car?

3. $45,000 is no longer really "luxury" class. How long has it been since you bought a new car?

4. "Room for 5 but only seats 4"... in a 2 door sports coupe, not sedan. And this is unexpected?

5. You expected not to have to move the front seats for access to the rear with only 2 doors?

6. You do realize that road noise can be caused by more than the tire design, right? You do realize the tires can be replaced, right?

7. Did you actually drive the car, or were all your observations obtained from the passenger's seat?

For the most part, you seem to be hung up on the price tag and lack of performance with several passengers in a 3,500 lb. car with a relatively high-revving V6 (298 hp @ 6,400 rpm). You do realize that torque and horsepower are inextricably linked and that it's actually torque that accelerates the car, right? :D

yes, I took it to red line. You usually feel something by 4,500 rpms in most other cars even with a high rev limit. Now for your other quetions.
1. I actually got to test drive the car by myself. I'm a fat ass weighing in at 240lbs. :D (4 people on the drive to Santa Monica and back).
2. Should have a V8 IMO
3. It's luxury to me. I'm poor :(
4. I forgot to mention that there is a space between the two rear passenger seats that is designed to keep your stuff. There is plenty of room for a fith person if there was a cushion there.
5. Trust me, it's a hell of a lot easier in a two door honda or even a ford. The infiniti requires you to pull a lever and then push a button for a little while.
6. I understand that, but the vehicle needs more sound foam.
7. See number 1.

The '05 M3 is 3415lbs, 333hp, 262tq and it starts at $47,300. 0-60 is 4.8 . 159 top speed. You don't need a V8 imo.

C&D: At $34,760 as tested (without navigation), the G35 trades with the cheapest here. It also runs with the faster crowd, the 3.5-liter VQ V-6 now good for 298 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. Launch at a lazy 3500 rpm, and it'll do 5.9-second sprints to 60 mph and 70-to-0 stops in 169 feet. We've ranted before on the comical confusion of textures and colors in the G35's cockpit.

wow your friend got ripped a new one on the price.

Trust me, it's a hell of a lot easier in a two door honda or even a ford. The infiniti requires you to pull a lever and then push a button for a little while. That's pretty typical for power seats which don't release the seat track linkage when moving the seat back forward. I'd assume this is only an issue on the driver's side, or is the passenger's seat powered also?

I didn't say you needed a V8 91lx, I was just stating that I was disapointed with its performance.

After taxes and fees, you're looking at $37,000 easy for that model. My friend got everything with his G35 that's why it came out to be $45,000 after taxes, special packages/programs and all of those ridiculous fees.

If you're happy paying a pennie over $35,000.00 for such a car, by all means go ahead. Our economy needs people like that. :)

Oh they're right about the braking. Pretty damn good.

Ineteresting. Yeah the passenger seat was powered as well. Guess I jumped the gun on that. :D I should check the GT when I get home. I remember just lifting a little lever and it allows anough space.

My friend's new v6 accord. The one with the red V6 emblem and manual tranny does well performance and comfort wise IMO and it's a lot cheaper. Sorry guys, but my price range for cars is limited to $30,000 or less.

We are going to drive it to Los Angeles again, is there anything you guys want me to check out on the car?

45k for a G35 coupe???? i'm a nissan guy and all, but even i have to say that's alot of money for not much car.

30k or less is more then enough to get you something way better then a 45k g35

I raced a Z from pretty slow once. Sure had more torque than me, but I made up for that :)

Did he pay 45k Canadian? :dunno:

If he paid 45k USD then he got ripped indeed. I like Nissan/Infiniti, but to pay 45k for a G35, man that's just crazy.

Hell for 5k more you could get an M45 Sport or for about that price.

They are pretty common cars . . .

. . . I don't think the driver is trying to assert his individuality with the car :p
