Got really bored today, picked up a Vertex Standard 8800R from a local shop, got a free separation kit with it. Think of it as a car stereo with the detachable face, and the separation kit lets you put the face wherever you want and put the radio elsewhere. 50W VHF/35W UHF FM/FMN. This one can do a cross-band repeat, allowing me to run my HT at UHF Low-power where it behaves better anyways (lower SWR off antenna, and I can hit my truck easy... Low power has a useable range of about 6 miles... and throw out a huge VHF signal from my truck. This thing kicks ass. Still gotta figger out how/where to mount the radio itself under the back seat, going to cut the antenna cable to length after I do that.

No more spending money for the next few weeks....
