I am doing a new site template and I need to ask the opinion of the forum. As you probably know we're doing a few gigs transfer a day and the server will probably have to be upgraded next month. This is going to cost around $100 a month so I'm considering adding google ads to the page. Where would everyone prefer the ads to be? I was considering the area where it says "« Previous Thread | Next Thread » " This won't get in the way of the threads but won't get completely ignored either. I hate to put up ads but I want the site to grow.

You could do something where the person donates money to make their account add free, so those who don't want to pay any money can look at the adds, and those that don't want adds can donate to the community.

i've been on plenty of forums where there are membership perks like no ads, special members only forum, etc.

of cousre it would help if most of us had been on this forum a little longer before we had to start paying up.

no one is forcing anyone to pay FTC.

Its simply if you want to browse the site without adds, you donate a small fee.

Just think, if 1,000 people donate 10 dollars. THat would pay for a decent server and a good bit of bandwith.

Chris, why don't you just set up a paypal account for members to donate, and offer premium membership. For instance, in order to view the nekkid forum, you'd have to be a donating member :)

Honestly, I think that's a great idea. I've been here for two years and donating funds to a great site doesn't bother me at all.

thats why I suggested having the donation thing make the adds not show up for you instead of limiting access to parts of the site.

Yeah, but if they want to be sneaky pricks ( :) ) all they'd have to do is make the ads so damn annoying you WANT to pay just to get rid of them (kind of like IGN.com).
