165HP stock, mid to low 15's stock in the 1/4 mile, the price is irresistable, and I would be able to take a good bit of n/a cars with a lil moddin'.
The only problem is that i've heard these cars have tranny issues. So that's my main issue with it. Let me know what you guys think.
Cosby 03-01-2004, 08:17 AM you could always put a klze in too. I personally think the mx6s look a lot better and its the same car basically.
Frankin7 03-01-2004, 12:20 PM i don't like the Probe. but thats me, if you like it then cool.
SpartanTS 03-01-2004, 12:29 PM i don't like the Probe. but thats me, if you like it then cool.
I liked the Probe over the MX-6, but not only that, i've found a Probe for $2500. I can sell my Prelude for that and break even. But if I can find a MX-6 for a really good price, then i'll defintely consider it too. But i've finally narrowed it down to the Probe/MX-6. I'm tired of trying to make a fast car outta a mid 16's car, so the Prelude has to go. So no more Hondas, no more low power 4 bangers, and no more auto trannies.
SpartanTS 03-01-2004, 12:33 PM ...And i'm a sucker for retractable head lights :)
Frankin7 03-01-2004, 12:33 PM thats cool. good luck with the car hunt then and also the project. :)
Frankin7 03-01-2004, 12:34 PM ...And i'm a sucker for retractable head lights :)
i like the retractables on my car but i'm going to go with the east bear headlight conversion eventually.
vwracerchick 03-01-2004, 12:36 PM i have a friend with a probe and he said they r straight but he has done a lot to it for performance and hp and all that
SpartanTS 03-01-2004, 12:44 PM i like the retractables on my car but i'm going to go with the east bear headlight conversion eventually.
I did the H4 Conversion on my Prelude with a pair of 5000k bulbs, and it looks damn good at night.
But back to the Probe/MX-6 thingie, another reason why I wanna get one is that with some software, i'll be able to plug in my Laptop and tune it being that it has a OBD-II computer, unlike my Prelude which is OBD-0, which pretty much requires me to go pay for dyno time for a good tuning, which can get costly. All in all, I think i'm making the right choice for my next car. I honestly can't think of any other car under 3k that can give me that kind of performance stock.
Toxico 03-01-2004, 02:29 PM haha, your going to get probed... i mean a probe
I have a friend that bought one, the entire interior is basicly snap together. I think we only removed 2 screws when we installed his stereo
Cosby 03-01-2004, 03:17 PM You're going to pay for dyno time to tune regardless of the EMS... Don't fall under the assumption that a newer standardized ECU is better all around there are still drawbacks.
HTM Impreza WRX 03-02-2004, 02:26 AM you can't tune your stock computer like that. good luck w/ that then, cause the license to get it tuned by someone else is $375, plus dyno tuning time...you're looking at $550 for the first tune.
if a probe is what you want...get it.
aw11 supercharged mr2 could out perform it....
240..and a few other cars could also. as they say, you get what you pay for though.

thats true, don't skimp when looking for a good car.
SpartanTS 03-02-2004, 11:05 PM I thought about a 240SX, but the 1st Gens aren't that fast. And I really don't want to spend the money for a 2nd Gen. But, time will tell my options. Right now, it's the MX-6/Probe
Cosby 03-02-2004, 11:30 PM the s13 and s14 share the same engine
HTM Impreza WRX 03-02-2004, 11:39 PM 89-90 had 140 hp vs 150
Stegall 03-03-2004, 12:10 AM the earlery engine is also a sohc.
Cosby 03-03-2004, 09:59 AM if you want to go fast you'd do head work anyway. Just get a dohc ka head, theyre a dime a dozen
Frankin7 03-03-2004, 06:06 PM ya, if you go 240, look for the dohc like said earlier. more potential in em.
SpartanTS 03-04-2004, 10:31 AM If I consider a 240, it'll be a 95+. I'm not much of a fan of the first gen's other than RWD
Texas89LX 03-04-2004, 11:17 AM dude, first gen MR2s are stupid cheap
at least go look/drive one :)

And very not so good looking. The next car I purchase is gonna be my daily driver also, until I have enough $$$ to have 2 cars.
2nd Gen MR2 looks better, but they are kinda costly, and a 2 seater. If I want even choose a 2 seater, it would be a Del Sol with a H22a swap.
HTM Impreza WRX 03-04-2004, 11:52 AM mr2 w/ the same money in mods would put you at 300+ wheel hp w/ some money left over for dyno tuning and suspention and wheels. you could probably find one in ok condition for about $5k
Cosby 03-04-2004, 12:43 PM mr2s are a pain to work on
Frankin7 03-04-2004, 07:12 PM yup, the only way to take the engine out is to drop it out the bottom.
HTM Impreza WRX 03-05-2004, 04:23 AM it's not as bad as what it everyone makes it out to be. it can be easier than a FWD to take out
Stegall 03-05-2004, 08:15 AM Tibby knows all.
Stang_15us 03-05-2004, 10:16 AM When I had my old MR2 we converted it to FWD so we could drift it. I went to NOPI 2 years ago and came in 2nd in the drift contest. Lost to a red Conquest with weapon R seatbelt harnesses.
preludedude 03-05-2004, 10:32 AM hmmm...i didnt know you had a mr2? :)..

true story
SpartanTS 03-05-2004, 01:53 PM Honda Del Sol + H22 = Much faster than MR2
HTM Impreza WRX 03-06-2004, 12:57 AM i HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY doubt that. mr2 is a 2700 lb car w/ 200 hp stock...and can get 300 for relatively cheap.
i doubt the you could squeeze that much power out of a n/a car for the money you can on a turbo car.
preludedude 03-06-2004, 11:15 AM a H22 in a del sol is a pretty difficult swap from what ive heard...but since the sol is so tiny, a 200hp H22 would be very fast in there...with the $ that you would spend on both cars, you would prolly come out better with the turbo mr2....say delsol-$3k, h22-$3k...$6k for del sol with H22...mr2 turbo's I have actually seen up near $8k $10k price range...but i dunno...look around...try and find a del sol with h22...i doubt its gonna be local..

SpartanTS 03-06-2004, 03:41 PM I've heard of one H22 Del Sol, it was in Texas. Ran 13's in the 1/4 mile all n/a. JDM H22a with 220 Horses in a lil ol' Del Sol.
Frankin7 03-07-2004, 05:09 PM i saw a CRX with a H22 in it. looked like he used a shoe horn to put the engine in there. no room to do anything in that engine bay.

There's a guy that works at Norton's in Spartanburg (Travis), he drives a CRX with a B16 in it, and it's pretty damn fast. You all may have seen it. It's light blue with black wheels.
Frankin7 03-07-2004, 11:26 PM i don't think i've seen that hatch yet but there are lots of swapped honda's that are pretty quick.
