There's a novice day scheduled by Highlands Sports Car Club in Maggie Valley, NC (about 1h 45m from Greenville according to Mapquest), where they will have a short classroom session followed by in-car instruction on an autocross course. They have beginner and advanced levels, and I am looking into whether I can make it this weekend. It would be a great start for anyone who hasn't autocrossed before because of the instruction and attention given over and above what they could do at a normal event, and for people like me that have done it a while it should be some good seat time.
