But what do you guys think of the 05/06 Mustang GT?

Thinking on the practical side, it's become tempting to have....

lol, the Miata and co. are too small to be practical season-round....

Plus, i've always liked the new Mustang's stylings and V8 sound....

I saw where one on stock internals, and nothing else major put on a 9lb procharger (iirc) blower kit and put down like 480rwhp or so...

480rwhp / 421rwtq on 8-9 lbs of boost.

I would buy one if I was in the market for a "sports car." I've always like the classic mustangs and these new ones have a lot of similar design elements IMO.

No kidding... All that from JUST a supercharger? I'm quite impressed....

I'm trying to find a nice replacement for both my FB and 240SX, since I decided I want to get out of the "fixer-upper" side of tuning.... Rather would have a nice clean platform to work off of, with a warranty to keep me from having to fix anything for awhile....

It may not handle like either, but i'm sure the power and weight will make up for it all somehow.....:wiggle:

Besides, i'm a sucker for throwback design cues....

Been preaching this to rotary people for a good while....

Once you feel a fairly modded v8.... you really don't want much else...

I've had a decently modded R1 FD...and while I love the turbo and rev of the rotary... I've driven a 400rwhp LS1 Trans Am, i think around 380rwhp 4.6L supercharged mustang GT, and a fox body mustang puttin down over 300 at the wheels.... I must say, the turbo thing is kind of "cool".. but it CANT COME CLOSE to the feel of a shitload of torque and the powerband... the LS1 is amazing.

Were you the one who talked about getting to drive one as the company car?

If so, what were your thoughts on it again? I wanna get as much info on it as possible from other drivers before I do my own research....

I think 2ndgen rocket has a new mustang company car.

I have a 1989 notchback.

I could have campainged a real street mustang for 2 seasons for the money I had in all my 7's.

Well, of course i'm going to.... lol, I just came up with the idea to get a GT this morning, after pondering over the cars I test drove last weekend....

I figure if i'm not too happy with it, my next choice is the new Impreza WRX.... After that, i'll just start looking for non-new cars again...

My friend has an '05 Mustang GT. I taught him to drive stick, but he CHOSE to get an auto instead! Its a quick car and the stock exhaust sounds incredible. The gas mileage on them leaves something to be desired. If you check out insurance on Corvettes you would be surprised. I strongly urge you to go test drive a FRC C5(Fixed Roof Coupe is the father of the Z06). I get 30 mpg on the highway with the Z06.

Don't let anyone give you shit about that car, it's no fucking joke. First, the handling is not that bad, especially considering they stuck with a solid rear axle in that car. Drop that thing down, give it some basic suspension upgrades, sway bars, bushings, shocks, springs, and it will turn the thing into a completely new beast. The ride quality in the car is phenomenal, it's extremely quiet in the cab, and it still has a very sporty road manner without the harshness of a 12 year old FD.

The motor is another thing altogether. Has anyone seen the Vortech GT in Road & Tracks balls out mile test? The redesigned 4.6 is an absolute fucking bastard of a motor. Simple bolt-ons are yielding significant power gains, and dumping $3k into a supercharger setup is good for 150hp on these cars. As someone said earlier, this isn't even touching internals or beefing up the bottom end. You will not be disappointed with one of these cars, just go drive one and then laugh at how ridiculously better it is than damn near anything else in that price range.

I've driven the GT a few times, as my company let me get the V6 for a company car (I haven't sucked enough dick to get a GT). Even with the auto V6, I can absolutely melt the tires. It's a very solid car, just go drive it.

2ndGen.Rocket
11-01-2005, 05:19 PM
Oh, I would also throw some better rotors and pads on the car. It stops well now, but the stock setup gets hot and starts to fade REAL fast.

So I managed to step into a couple of dealerships before I got to one that would let me test out the 06 Mustang GT.... Ended up driving a blue Deluxe, and man was it nice....

I didn't realize how much power those things had.... Step on it even just a little bit, and you're launching.....

The price tag was around $30,161, but I managed to talk him down into the $27K range for it before I hit the "well, I wanna think about it..." line....

Think I should come back and try to get it lower next week, or shop around a bit more?

^ If only they'd offer it in a friggin manual.

Mustang GT is a hellva car. If you don't care about the bells and whistles, you can easily find a GT for 25k. Hell what more do you need than the normal power options?

If it's an optioned out GT, or close to it, they're not gonna budge below 26k, and even that's pushing it. All the GT's i've seen here are selling at or above sticker, but of course this varies by the dealer. I've even seen some V6's with 2k markups because people are buying them like hotcakes.

GM made a deal with the Canadian Auto Workers Union that any new Camaro, Trans-Am, or Firebird built would be built at the same Canadian plant they used to be made in.

Since then there have been no reports of new musclecars coming to that plant, nor any retooling, etc.

The Camaro, for now, is dead.
